This week is ME/CFS Awareness Week, and this condition sits at the heart of much of my clinical work.
ME/CFS is not tiredness. It is a complex, systemic condition involving the nervous system, immune system, lymphatic system, and cellular energy production. It is thought that over two million people in the UK are living with it. Most will have been dismissed at least once, and it is a condition that's diagnosed by exclusion of any other signs on testing.
I spent this weekend with osteopaths, functional medicine practitioners, and researchers exploring the mechanisms behind why manual therapy can help.
In ME/CFS, the brain's own drainage network is impaired. Waste accumulates. The blood brain barrier becomes more permeable. Small nerve fibres are damaged. And in post-viral presentations, persistent viral proteins continue disrupting lymphatic flow long after the acute illness has passed.
I use The Perrin Technique, which works with the body's own fluid dynamics to support what the body is struggling to do for itself. It is slow, careful, and cumulative.
If you are living with ME/CFS, long COVID, or post-viral fatigue: you are not making it up. You are not lazy. You deserve a practitioner who takes the complexity seriously.

📩 Get in touch if you would like to know whether Perrin Technique might help you.

As an osteopath I regularly attended CPD events, today was all about CFS/ME with Dr Perrin which involved meeting, and learning with, a wonderful group of Perrin practitioners, who are all passionate about helping people with their recovery. Today we learnt from some fantastic functional medicine practitioners, osteopaths, nutritionists and researchers who are making a big difference to peoples lives. Osteopathy was developed as a form of treating disease in the body and we are constantly learning more about the impact of what we do with our hands and how that supports health and recovery. This has left me feeling intreguid and excited about the future of research for ME/CFS and other conditions influence by neurolymphatic dysregulation.
Do get in touch if you're struggling with fatigue, pain or anything that isn't easily explained and we can see what can be done to help.

If today is hard for you, for whatever reason, please know that's completely valid. Skip on by. 🤍

Today I wanted to share a bit about my mum, the woman who inspires me to be the best I can be. We moved a lot when I was growing up, army life means you learn to adapt to new places and people, and to your dad being away for long periods of time, but, for me there was always one constant, My Mum. She's the one who made a new house feel like home before boxes were unpacked, who made saying goodbye and starting new feel OK, and who sent wishes on stars with me to Dad whenever he was away. I didn't fully appreciate what all that care and attention gave me until I became a mother myself.

Yesterday I took her for cake and ginger tea at and enjoyed spending time together. I feel so lucky to have her close by to share all the joys and fears of life and parenting!
Thank you for being amazing Mum. 💛

I’m Laura, an osteopath based in Exeter, Devon, supporting people living with pain, fatigue and long-term stress.

My work is trauma-aware, chronic pain-informed and grounded in both clinical knowledge and deep respect for the body’s own healing intelligence.

I have a special focus in:

• women’s health & perinatal care
• chronic pain & long-term conditions
• nervous system support
• the Perrin Technique for CFS/ME
• Mummy MOT & postnatal recovery

My sessions are calm, unrushed and centred around helping you reconnect with your body, not fight it.

Healing doesn’t need to be harsh to be effective.

I thought the beginning of the year would be a good time to re-introduce my work and my space.

I studied osteopathy so that I could help people after I recovered from chronic low back that I thought would last my lifetime, I also selfishly wanted to learn more about my own body so I didn't have to struggle like that ever again.

I created my clinic space to be a sanctuary for healing, this is my clinic version of my dream she shed! A safe space for people to see me where they will be heard and where I also feel good, the energy is wonderful in here.

I don't help people to push through pain or fatigue, I help them to come home to their body I listen and help them to rebuild trust and safety, to recognise the signals for when it's time to slow down so small changes don't become long term problems.

I use the tag line reconnect, restore, revive because I feel that this aligns deeply with what I aim to do for each person I work with.

I share my space with a wonderful reflexologist who is also constantly striving to expand her knowledge and skills to help as many people as possible, currently doing some brilliant work with lymphatic drainage which is particularly good for breast cancer related secondary lymphoedema.

If you're in Exeter and would like help or support for aches, pains or fatigue please do get in touch we have lots of ways to be able to help.

When you're busy it can feel hard to do things for yourself, but, if you can be present in nature, walk on uneven surfaces and do a bit of balancing you can congratulate yourself, you've done your brain and body some good 🧠💪
If going outside feels like too much for you at the moment try to take a moment away from your phone to look out of a window and take some nice deep breaths and look at clouds or try to notice the colours that you can see, things will be better at some point and the small moments you take now can make a big difference to your health in the long term.

For reference, I couldn't walk walk properly for 2 years after herniating a disc in my back, everything felt very negative and I lost hope in being able to move properly again, but now I can and even better I trained to be an osteopath so I get to help others feel confident in their bodies too 😁

A tad early for me but as I was ice skating last weekend and the temperature has definitely dropped it felt like the right time to deck the clinic in some subtle festive cheeriness!

If you've ever had back pain or any aches while working, or headaches after sitting at your computer for a while this is for you.
It doesn't matter what you do or really how you do it, but if you're currently sitting still, move a bit, look out of a window for a little while, if you can have a stroll around the room, then come back to your work.
Your body and mind will be grateful 😊

Walking my parents’ lovely beagle (and many other breeds) cross this evening made me think about how our nervous systems work a bit like a beagle.

Like a beagle on a walk, our nervous system is always sniffing out what’s safe and what’s not — curious, alert, protective.

But once the path feels familiar, the tail wags slower, the breath softens, and everything settles.

That’s how our bodies find calm too — through familiarity, gentle rhythm, and feeling safe in our surroundings. 🌿🐾

As an osteopath, I love helping people reconnect with that sense of safety in their bodies — easing tension, restoring rhythm, and supporting the body’s natural ability to settle and heal.
