Pants on or off? 👀

There isn't a right answer.

If we're working on the lower back, hamstrings, hip flexors or glutes, removing underwear can sometimes give me better access to the muscles I actually need to work on.

But only if YOU are comfortable with it.

You'll always be properly draped, and you can absolutely keep your underwear on if that's what makes you comfortable. The goal isn't getting more skin exposed — it's getting better access to the areas that need treatment.

However, I wouldn't usually recommend removing underwear for a first appointment. Not because there's anything wrong with it, but because I think trust needs to be built first — both ways. You need to feel completely comfortable with me, and I need to understand how you like to be treated and what you're comfortable with.

Once that trust is established, it's something we can discuss if it would genuinely benefit the treatment.

And, as always, your comfort comes first. 💚

“She identified problem areas without me even having to mention them…” 🥹

This is one of those reviews that makes me ridiculously proud of what I do, and this review from Roza particularly stuck with me.

One of my favourite parts of massage therapy is working with what I find on the day rather than simply following a set routine, and that’s exactly what I aim for with every treatment — taking the time to listen, assess and work with what your body actually needs.

Every body is different, and sometimes the areas that need attention aren't necessarily the ones you come in expecting.

Thank you, Roza, for such incredibly kind words. ☺️

Maybe you're not “just tense”.

Maybe you've been carrying stress in your body for longer than you realise.

Jaw. Neck. Shoulders. Back. Glutes.

Your body has ways of holding onto things — even when your mind has moved on.

You don't always need to push through.
Sometimes you need to give your body permission to let go. 🤍

Where do you hold your tension?

Stress doesn't always feel like stress.

Sometimes it shows up as a tight neck, heavy shoulders, an achy back, tense hips or a body that just can't seem to switch off.

When we're under stress, our bodies can hold onto tension without us even realising it.

Massage can be one way to slow things down, release some of that tension and give your body a chance to let go. 🤍

Where do you notice you hold stress? 👇

You don't have to wait until something hurts to look after yourself.

Massage is often something we think about when our muscles are tight, we're carrying an injury, or our body is telling us it needs attention.

But self-care doesn't always have to be about fixing a problem.

Sometimes it's simply giving yourself an hour to switch off, breathe, and let someone else look after you for a change. 🙌

And yes, guys — that includes you. 😉

Whether you're training regularly, spending your days at a desk, carrying a bit too much tension, or simply fancy an hour where you don't have to do anything… you're allowed to make time for yourself.

You don't need a reason. 🤍

Ever wondered why a painful area can suddenly feel SO tight? 👀

When something hurts, your body doesn't just sit there and ignore it.

Your nervous system can increase muscle activity around the area as part of a protective response. That's known as muscle guarding.

And while that response can be useful initially, sometimes the tension sticks around.

Then you can end up in a frustrating cycle:
Pain → guarding → tension → restricted movement → more discomfort → more guarding.

Which might explain why you can stretch, mobilise and try to “release” a muscle… only to find the tightness keeps coming back.

I've experienced this myself recently with my shoulder.

Once my pain was better controlled and I was sleeping properly, I noticed the surrounding muscles were finally able to relax more.

And it reminded me of something a client said recently.

She'd been experiencing significant shoulder tension during a stressful period and had been trying to stretch and mobilise it herself — but felt like she was stuck in that same pain → tension → pain loop.

Sometimes the answer isn't to stretch harder.
Sometimes we need to understand why the body is guarding in the first place. 💚

Massage can be one part of helping reduce the tension and discomfort while you work on restoring comfortable movement and addressing the factors contributing to the problem.

And that's one of the things I love about therapeutic massage: looking beyond “this muscle feels tight” and considering the bigger picture.

Have you ever noticed that the more something hurts, the more you seem to tense around it?

So, I currently have a trapped nerve in my shoulder… and naturally, I've been trying to massage it myself. 😂

Spoiler: it didn't really help.

Which got me thinking — why does massage often feel so much more effective when someone else is doing it?

Yes, there's the obvious practical problem: it's pretty difficult to properly reach and work on your own shoulder while also trying to relax it!

But there's more to it than that. When someone else is working on you, you get to stop doing the work. You can let your muscles soften, settle into the table and simply receive the treatment.

And touch isn't purely mechanical either. Safe, appropriate touch from another person can be a very different experience from trying to work on yourself — there's an element of connection and being cared for that you simply can't recreate with your own hands. 🤍

So if you've ever thought “I'll just massage that myself…” and wondered why it doesn't quite have the same effect…

Maybe your body doesn't just need the pressure.

Maybe it needs you to stop doing the work. 🌿

Have you ever tried to massage a stubborn bit yourself and thought “this isn't working”? 😂
