You are not responsible for other peopleâs behaviour.
You are not responsible for their choices.
You are not responsible for their reactions.
You are not responsible for fixing, rescuing or changing them.
Your responsibility is how YOU respond.
You can choose your words.
You can choose your boundaries.
You can choose what you will and wonât accept.
You can choose where you put your energy.
When we take responsibility for things that donât belong to us, we become exhausted, frustrated and overwhelmed.
Freedom comes when we learn the difference between what is ours to carry and what isnât.
You can care about someone without carrying their burden.
You can support someone without solving their problems.
You can love someone without taking responsibility for their behaviour.
Healthy responsibility is doing your part.
Over-responsibility is doing everyone elseâs too. What is one thing you could put down today that was never yours to carry?
A shorter, punchier version for a graphic would be:
Your responsibility is how you respond to it.
Stop carrying what was never yours to carry.
âš Care without carrying.
âš Support without rescuing.
âš Love without losing yourself.
That line âCare without carryingâ would make a lovely image quote and ties in beautifully with the lighthouse metaphor from your client work.
