A reminder: People can only meet you from where they are
emotionally and mentally.

Not from where you need them to be.
Not from where you hope they’ll be.

And that can be hard to accept.

Because sometimes it means:
they don’t have the capacity the awareness
or the emotional safety to show up in the way you deserve.

This isn’t about lowering your standards

it’s about seeing clearly.

And choosing what you do next from a place of self-respect, not self-abandonment.

When your mind starts to imagine the worst


Sometimes the mind drifts into “what if
”
What if something goes wrong

What if I can’t cope

What if this turns out badly


This is called catastrophising.

And often
 it’s not because something is wrong — it’s because a part of you is trying to keep you safe.

It’s doing its best
 even if it feels overwhelming.

So instead of fighting it, you might gently try:

Notice the thought, without judging it

Thank that protective part for trying to help

Ask yourself : Is this certain
 or just a possibility?

And then bringing yourself back to now
 to what’s actually here, in this moment.

You don’t have to push the thoughts away.. You can meet them with a little more kindness.

And sometimes, that’s where things begin to shift.

but actually, they’re being triggered.

And when you understand what’s underneath that reaction,
you can start to respond differently.

Your thoughts are not just thoughts
 they’re instructions to your body.

Have you ever noticed how one small thought can change everything?

“I can’t cope” (your chest might tighten)
“I’m not good enough” (you feel apathetic)
“What if it goes wrong?” (your body prepares for danger)

And suddenly

your nervous system is on high alert!

But it works the other way around too.

“I’ll work it out”
“I’ve handled things like this before”
“This is uncomfortable, but it’s not unsafe”

Thinking this way - turning things around allows your body to soften, your breathing to steady, and you are able to take back control 🙌. Your mind is constantly shaping your internal world.

Not every thought is true.
Not every thought deserves your attention.

Sometimes the most powerful shift is simply noticing:
“That’s just a thought
 not a fact.”

And choosing a different one.

We often think habits are the problem

But actually, habits are just patterns playing out.

Before you try to change a habit, try this instead:

✹ Map it.

Get curious, not critical.

Ask yourself:
‱ What’s happening just before it?
‱ What am I feeling in that moment?
‱ What does the habit give me (relief, distraction, comfort)?
‱ What changes afterwards?

Because every habit is doing something for you
 even if it’s not helpful long-term.

When you can see the pattern clearly,
you’re no longer stuck inside it

you can start to gently change it.

Change doesn’t start with willpower.
It starts with awareness.

Toxic positivity isn’t healing
 it’s silencing.

“Just stay positive.”
“Everything happens for a reason.”
“It could be worse.”

On the surface, these sound comforting.
But for someone who’s struggling, they can feel like their pain is being dismissed
 or even denied.

Reframing toxic positivity looks like this:

Instead of “just think positive” →
“I can see this is really hard for you.”

Instead of “others have it worse” →
“Your feelings matter, even if others are struggling too.”

Instead of “everything happens for a reason” →
“I don’t know why this is happening, but I’m here with you.”

Instead of rushing to fix →
Slowing down enough to truly listen.

Because healing doesn’t come from pretending things are okay

It comes from feeling safe enough to be honest when they’re not.

You don’t need to force positivity to be worthy of support.
Your feelings are valid, exactly as they are.
