Sun shine 🌞 on a rainy day 🌧
I had masive hope the boys would experience tight lines, maybe even catch wee perch
With brand new fishing rods & reals, new fishing tackle took them even further away to Glen Ogle where fish are plenty apparently 🎣
But nope...
No even a bite.
I was bit gutted for them.
Got to love their patience.
The hot dogs they had to cook went down well, i got to ware my new school hoodie.
Always silver lining πŸ‘Œ 😊

Where the credits due...

3 Older Seamab Lads, no been in the woods for while.
They wanted to light their own fire, cook their own food.
Gave them very basic safety talk, gave them flint steel, few fire lighters told them to get on with it watched from distance.
The 3 lads worked independently prepared light their own fires, cooked their own noodles. One lads fire was almost out told him if he wanted hot choc got to get his fire going again to boil the kettle
With no hesitation he just got on with it fire back on the go.
Noddles, hot choc
I shared my buscites even gave them few extra must be going soft. πŸ˜€
They left the woods leaving no trace.
Been one the best sessions iv had in a while.
Calm relaxed, good lad chat and banter...

Think i must have one the best jobs ever, still doing what you did as a lad growing up lighting fires, using knifes, carving making spears...
Now i get to teach these skills i took for granted growing up...
Social Services starting to see the benifits yp gain from spending time in the woods taking them away for some yp quite unmanagable, chaotic lives there living.

Yday i had 2 lads referd from SW thismorning session he had the Kelly Kettle challange.
Set up the kelly kettle sorce the suitable tinder, get it light, boiled the water in15min to save his imaginary friend life who has hypothermia.
Unfortunately he died done it in 20min...
Well try again next wk...πŸ˜€
He did make cool little mallet that the other lad used to make his spoon to eat his noodles.
He also had to set up fire pit area, make his own pot stand split tinder make small fire to cook his noodles
Almost had crunchy noodles, fire went out 3 times... life lesson trying to proritise, manage more one thing that could potentially safe your life...

While there saving lives, i was carving out new spears for kids to practice their hunting skills.

Bet you wish you had my job 😊

Its all about the learning intentions..

When you introduce a maths lession into a Bushcraft session with boys who have real struggles to learn
You got to think out the box...
Young fella from ( Inclusion Wellbeing Services) had to listen to instructions collect & count sticks he got in the woods that had to be mesured & cut to size to make his own hanging basket...

Using the tools safely he had to saw & cut the stick that had to be mesured to size problem solve as he built his basket making it secure not to fall apart
Its was no easy task keeping him focused not to divert away from the project as he was trying every trick a boy could think of not to do it
Was super proud he managed to finnish the task. Well proud of his effort.
This afternoon it was about the boys getting physical building on their strength, confidance not to giving up splitting thick logs with axes, mallets, and using a wedge to split the logs finish of the job.
Had to admire their determination one lad, who struggled , walked away saying, cant do it, "cant do it", (maybe becuse the mallet was nearly the same size of him πŸ˜€)
Came back every time with more determanation that he was going to split that log
With some support from his pal they achived something prity impressive I know alot YP older than them that would struggle to achive this... πŸ’ͺ

The rain wasnt even an issues they all just got on with the job...

Reheat Pizza over the fire πŸ• and marshmallows for their effort...

FDAMH are offering a free course to those living in the Falkirk area to help increase understanding of neurodivergent conditions such as autism, ADHD, dyslexia, dyspraxia, and Tourette’s, while exploring how mental health can be affected by social, emotional, and environmental factors.

By joining the course, participants will develop greater awareness, practical communication skills, and strategies to create more inclusive, supportive environments at home, in education, in the workplace and within communities. πŸ«‚

Delivered over four weekly sessions of two hours each, the programme provides a safe and welcoming space for learning, reflection and discussion. Each session combines information, practical tools and group conversations to help participants better understand neurodiversity through a strengths-based and person-centred approach.

Topics that are explored include:

βœ… Understanding neurodivergence and mental health
βœ… Communication and sensory awareness
βœ… Emotional wellbeing and resilience
βœ… Building inclusive support networks

A key part of the course is recognising the power of peer support. Shared lived experience can reduce isolation, increase confidence, and create meaningful connections between participants. Through supportive group discussion and peer learning, individuals are encouraged to share experiences, strategies and encouragement in a respectful and inclusive environment. πŸ’š

The course promotes the value of community, understanding, and mutual support in improving wellbeing and reducing stigma surrounding both neurodiversity and mental health.

If you would like to join this group, please complete our online referral form and mention that you are interested in taking part in the course in the β€œreason for referral” box πŸ‘‰ https://fdamh.org.uk/refer-yourself/
