Last week I headed out of Falmouth to Samudra Retreats Gozo retreat in Gozo, taking time out to reset my nervous system after a pretty intense couple of years. Although I worked hard to be able to give myself this period of self-care, I realise the huge privilege I have in being able to do this, time, work and money-wise. 🙏

I learnt so much about myself, further developed my nervous system regulation practice, ate wonderful, nourishing food, moved my body, soaked up the sun, rested my body and mind, and met awesome, kind, inspirational people. ☀️

My retreat week truly was a life-changing experience personally…onwards and upwards, ready to embrace all that life has to offer! And I look forward to bringing what I learnt to support you in my training, coaching and reflexology practice. 👣

That’s more like it February! Loved the warmth of the sunshine today. ☀️ Looking forward to tonight’s snow moon. 🌑

Here’s a lovely little self-reflection exercise you can do later in the glow of the snow moon…

❄️ Visualise a snowy, serene winter scene.

💪 Reflect on any recent challenges you have faced, and think about the strength you have shown yourself, and resilience you’ve developed.

🌱 Set a positive self-care intention for the coming month…focusing on what you wish to nurture and grow for YOU.

I have the pleasure to partner with the fabulous Emily Bray - Doula to regularly support her hypnobirthing and antenatal course attendees. This was us at last Sunday’s group session! 🤰

I drop into session three of each course to talk about why reflexology is such a fantastic, safe complementary therapy to receive throughout pregnancy, during labour and in the postnatal period too. 👣

I also guide attendees to perform a simple foot treatment on their pregnant partners, highlighting key reflex points they can use to help calm anxiety, regulate the breath, relax the body, reduce sensations of pain, and release those all-important, feel-good endorphins. 🧘🏽‍♀️

All pregnant clients that come to me for a reflexology treatment via Emily’s course receive £5 off their first session too! 🙌

Emily is really knowledgeable and has a lovely warm, relaxed style, which means that her antenatal classes are informative, fun and reassuring. If you’re pregnant, or know someone who is, I can’t recommend Emily’s courses highly enough! 😊

April is National Stress Awareness Month, so a little post about positive pressure vs negative stress. When I trained with The Stress Management Society two decades ago, I loved their definition of stress, and I still share this with my workshop and one-to-one clients today. ☀️

I believe that there is no such thing, as ‘good’ stress. Yes we need little bit of pressure to kick us up the bum to get things done, and perform to our best, but we don’t need to feel stressed every day. Our bodies are very clever and can deal with short bursts of stress, or finite periods of stressful events in our lives, but day-in, day-out stress is really bad for our physical, mental and emotional wellbeing. Long-term stress leads to poor health, low mental wellness, and ultimately burnout. So how do we know the difference between positive pressure and negative stress? 🙋‍♀️

If, for example, you have piece of work that needs to be completed, or you have a few things you need to juggle in a day, and it all needs focus but feels manageable, it’s likely to be positive pressure. That’s great, keep going! But if you’re always chasing your tail, feel mentally frazzled, or your ongoing mental/physical workload feels overwhelming, this is negative stress. So something needs to change. Being stressed shouldn't be a badge of honour. We really aren’t designed to live the way modern life is dictating we do. 🏃‍♂️

We're all unique and so our individual signs, symptoms and feelings of stress and pressure will vary. And we will each have our own ways of looking after ourselves. The important thing is to keep self-care activities in place, and non-negotiable, to release the pressure when needed. It’s also important to address the root cause of our stress because no amount of exercise, meditation or reflexology will balance out a constantly stressed body and mind. This can sometimes mean making significant changes to your life, but I can tell you that it’s usually worth it! 🌈

Do you agree with this distinction? How do you release your pressure valve to stay well? What changes might you need to make sure your balloon doesn't pop? 🎈Let me know in the comments below! ⬇️

A couple of weeks ago I was facilitating a workshop on ‘Women in the Professional Landscape’ for a large UK organisation. One of the questions I was asked at the end was what three wellbeing tips I would give young people starting out in their careers. Here were my pearls of wisdom!

⭐️ Firstly, make sure what you do is aligned to your goals and values, and no-one else’s. Don’t embark on a career that your family wants for you but you don’t. Don’t choose to work for an organisation that doesn’t sit right with you, for any reason. Maybe working for yourself is the best route? Don’t worry about what other people your age are doing, create your own path. This may take some figuring out but when we get curious and learn what is genuinely meaningful to us, the more enjoyable our journey through the world of work will be!

⭐️ Secondly, get yourself a mentor. Do some research, get chatting and reach out to people you feel you can learn from, and who you respect. You can seek out a mentor at work, in your family/friendship circles, through hobbies, on LinkedIn…anywhere! A good mentor will not only support you with your career aspirations but will check in with you on a personal level too.

⭐️ Thirdly, set strict boundaries to protect your non-work time. I know this can feel tough, but your employer doesn’t own you! I’ve seen so many people burn out over the years, I believe the only way we can make change that companies really listen to is to take action on an individual level. Give 100% while you’re at work and then 100% enjoy your personal life. Don’t bump hobbies, hanging out with your mates, etc. for your job - make these protective factors non-negotiable. Always take your annual leave. Don’t check work messages in your evenings/weekends/holiday. Vote with your feet if your company expects you to sacrifice your life for work. You deserve better!

⁉️ What one wellbeing tip would you give your younger self starting out in the world of work?

Wow! 🤩 I’ve just spent the last few days up in the Pyrénées with seven absolutely flippin fantastic women, working as a host for Gutsy Girls adventure trips. 🏔️

Pushing ourselves out of our comfort zones, moving our bodies, finding connections, sharing stories, and having fun! And there’s nothing like the beauty and stillness of the mountains to provide some mindfulness, give you some life perspective, and restore the soul. 🙏

Running in the London marathon means I needed new kicks, to replace my battered old faithfuls. These lilac beauties are perfect for spring, and better support my feet, ankles, knees, legs, hips, back and shoulders too! 🏃‍♀️

I’m breaking them in with two hour runs now, and am motivated even more with the cute little lace tags my daughter got me. The left foot tells me KEEP GOING MUM! and on the right it’s YOU HAVE GOT THIS! 🥰
