Fundraising Weekend : 29-31 May

We're coming to the end of our 3 month period of support for Dean Farm Trust Animal Sanctuary, so will be running a fundraising weekend again to boost the coffers before we send the money to the sanctuary.

I'm going with a theme of 'Carole's Favourites' over the fundraiser weekend - picking a menu that features some of my favourite dishes from previous menus, showcasing some of my favourite books in the bookshop and sharing my favourite online recipe resources 💚.

This will take place over the last weekend of May, and we will increase our donation amount to 25% of sales for that weekend, from the usual 5% (applies to food, drink & book sales only). If you are able to make an extra donation over that weekend as well, or over the coming weeks, to maximise the final pot, that would be much appreciated (you can add a donation to your order & pay by card, or we have a pot on the counter for any cash donations) 😊.

IMPORTANT UPDATE - Idlewild closed this weekend ⛔️

I’m so sorry, but I’m feeling under the weather - not really fully ill at this point, but wiped out and like something is coming. So, for the sake of my health and yours, I’ve decided not to open the café this weekend. Hopefully, with plenty of rest over the coming days, I’ll be back on top form next week and cooking up a storm for the 15-17 May weekend 🌱.

Coffee Trial ☕️

We're going to be running a trial of a new coffee over the next 2 weekends ☕️. Ferrario is hand-roasted locally by husband & wife team, Adrian & Erika. Erika is a midwife and the couple set up their business as a way of helping to improve outcomes during births in remote communities. A donation is made to The Beautiful Births Foundation with every sale, to deliver training to Traditional Birth Attendants to support safer births.

We will be trialling Ferrario's 'Beautiful Blend', a mix of beans from Uganda and Honduras. Tasting notes : From the lush highlands of Honduras comes a smooth base: creamy caramel, gentle milk-chocolate sweetness, and soft citrus brightness. The Uganda beans bring boldness and depth: rich dark-berry fruit, a hint of black tea, and a clean, lingering cocoa finish. Together, this blend is both comforting and vibrant.

[The trial will only cover caffeinated coffee, but if we go ahead with Ferrario as a regular supplier, we will be able to source decaffeinated coffee from them as well. ]

So Carole from Idlewild Café is open today at Maple Maple Strawberry… I popped in and grabbed myself a bowl of the mango salad on my way to see a postnatal family…

I wish I could show you the salad but it was too good!!
