🏃‍♂️ From pain behind the knee… to a half marathon PB by over 5 minutes.

When James came to see Michael, he’d been struggling with pain behind his left knee for around three months.

The pain had gradually worsened to the point where he was having to stop runs early, describing it as feeling like something needed to “pop”. With his goal race just around the corner, things weren’t looking ideal.

In fact, James came to see Michael just 4 days before his half marathon.

Following a thorough assessment, Michael ruled out any major ligament or meniscus issues and identified the culprit as dysfunction within the popliteus muscle, alongside some quad weakness.

Rather than panicking and pulling out of the race, Michael focused on:

✅ Educating James on what was causing the pain
✅ Managing his training load and symptoms before race day
✅ Hands-on treatment to release the irritated popliteus and surrounding muscles
✅ Targeted strength exercises to improve knee control and stability
✅ Giving James the confidence to toe the start line

The response to treatment was immediate, and James was able to go into race day feeling much more comfortable.

The result?

🏅 Half marathon completed in support of Parkinson’s UK
⏱️ A new PB by 5½ minutes
🏃‍♂️ Pain-free and stronger than ever

This is a great reminder that not every injury requires weeks on the sidelines. Sometimes, identifying the right structure and making a few key changes is all that’s needed to get you back doing what you love.

Massive congratulations to James for trusting the process and putting in the work under pressure. We’re delighted he was able to smash his PB while raising money for such a fantastic cause. 👏

If you’ve got an event coming up and a ni**le is threatening to derail your plans, don’t just hope it settles.

📍 Come and see us in Farnborough and let’s get you back to doing what you love.

💔 We’re really sad to announce that Michael will be leaving George Gore Sport Therapy on 5th July.

Anyone who has been treated by Michael knows just how fantastic he is. His dedication, expertise and genuine care for his patients have made him an incredible asset to the clinic, and while we are truly gutted to see him go, we’re also excited for him as he begins his next adventure. We wish him nothing but success. 🙌

And it’s not all sad news… 👀

For those patients who still have a longer road to recovery ahead, continuity of care remains incredibly important to us. Michael will be running monthly Sunday clinics for his long-term patients, and there are currently just 2 spaces remaining. If you’d like to secure one, please get in touch with Sian or speak to Michael at your next appointment.

In slightly lighter news….

We’re delighted to be welcoming a fantastic new therapist to the team, Isaac, who brings a wealth of experience and a passion for helping people recover with confidence. So whichever path your treatment takes, you’ll continue to be in great hands. ❤️

Please join us in thanking Michael for everything he’s done and wishing him all the very best for the future. 🍀

😢😭👀

A REAL sports injury clinic isn't just about treatment 👇

It's walking in and knowing you're in the right place.

It's having a team that listens. It's understanding exactly what's going on.It's having a clear plan. It's being supported every step of the way.

No rushed appointments. No one-size-fits-all approach. No feeling like just another name in the diary.

🏃‍♀️ From stopping after 1km… to completing the Brighton Marathon pain-free.

When Katie first came to see Elisha, she was in the middle of marathon training but struggling with a pain that started in her hamstring and gradually travelled into her calf.

The pain became so severe that she had to stop a 10k run after just 1km. Walking the dog, going downstairs, and even everyday activities were becoming increasingly uncomfortable.

One of the biggest challenges with Katie’s injury was that it wasn’t a straightforward hamstring strain. As symptoms changed, Elisha continually reassessed her condition to make sure she was treating the true cause of the problem rather than simply chasing symptoms.

Initially, Elisha identified signs of neural irritation and prescribed a structured nerve mobility programme. As treatment progressed, it became clear that stiffness through Katie’s lower back and overload of her soleus (deep calf muscle) were playing a significant role in her ongoing pain.

By combining:
✅ Targeted rehabilitation exercises
✅ Progressive calf strengthening
✅ Lower body strength work
✅ Running load management
✅ Hands-on treatment where appropriate
✅ Regular reassessments and progression of her rehab plan

Elisha helped Katie gradually return to running without aggravating her symptoms.

Over the next 6 weeks, Katie rebuilt her confidence, increased her training volume, completed her final preparation runs pain-free, and lined up on the start line of the Brighton Marathon.

The result?

🏅 Brighton Marathon completed
🏃‍♀️ Running pain-free
💪 Back to doing what she loves

Recovery isn’t always about finding a quick fix. Sometimes it’s about understanding how symptoms evolve, identifying what’s really driving the pain, and having a treatment plan that adapts along the way.

A huge congratulations to Katie for trusting the process, staying consistent with her rehab, and putting the work in. The result speaks for itself. 👏

If you’re training for an event and injury is threatening to derail your plans, don’t ignore it and hope it settles. The right assessment at the right time can make all the difference.

💡 One piece of advice Elisha will ALWAYS give her patients…

Don’t chase pain—chase capacity.

It’s easy to become fixated on getting rid of pain completely before returning to the activities you love. But pain isn’t always the best measure of recovery.

Instead, Elisha focuses on helping patients build their body’s capacity—the ability of muscles, tendons, joints, and the nervous system to tolerate load, movement, and everyday demands.

Why? Because a stronger, more resilient body is often the key to long-term recovery.

Rather than asking:
❌ “Does this hurt?”

Try asking:
✅ “Can my body tolerate a little more than it could last week?”

Recovery isn’t always a straight line. There will be good days and challenging days. The goal isn’t perfection—it’s gradual progress.

When you focus on building capacity, you’re not just recovering from injury. You’re creating a body that’s better prepared for whatever life, sport or work throws at it next.

That’s the difference between getting out of pain and staying out of pain.

Need help chasing capacity? Elisha is here!
