PRF supporting your body’s natural healing 🩸🦷

When it comes to oral surgery, our focus isn’t only on the procedure itself. It’s also on creating the best possible environment for healing afterwards.

Platelet-Rich Fibrin (PRF) is created using a small sample of your own blood. Once prepared, it forms a fibrin matrix rich in platelets and natural growth factors involved in the body’s healing process.

Following an extraction, PRF can be placed directly into the surgical site where it can be formed into a membrane to help protect and support the area as it heals ❤️‍🩹

At Castleton, Dr Caoimhe Doherty uses techniques such as PRF and bone grafting where clinically appropriate, tailoring every procedure to the individual patient and their future treatment needs.

A closer look at oral surgery with Dr Caoimhe 🦷

Oral surgery can sound daunting, so we wanted to show you what the process can actually involve 😷

In this case, Caoimhe carefully extracted the tooth before preparing the socket for a bone graft. Following an extraction, the bone in the area naturally begins to remodel. Bone grafting material can be placed into the socket to help preserve and support the area as it heals, particularly where a dental implant may be considered in the future 🦷

Dr Caoimhe then used PRF (Platelet-Rich Fibrin). PRF is created using a small sample of the patient’s own blood, which is processed to concentrate platelets, fibrin and growth factors. The PRF is placed into the extraction site and a PRF membrane is positioned over the bone graft, supporting the body’s natural healing process and protecting the grafted area 🤲🏼

The area is then carefully sutured, and the patient is given personalised aftercare instructions to support their recovery ❤️‍🩹

From the extraction itself through to bone preservation and healing, every stage is carefully planned around the individual patient 👤

Dr Caoimhe has a special interest in oral surgery, dental implants and supporting nervous patients, with IV sedation also available where appropriate.

Your hard work, dedication and commitment to providing exceptional patient care have truly paid off, and we couldn’t be prouder.

Important update for anyone considering Invisalign 👋

From 1st September 2026, VAT will be applied to Invisalign treatment, resulting in an increase in treatment costs. Unfortunately, this change is outside of our control, but we wanted to make our patients aware as early as possible 🗓️
