Acne Diaries: Is Skin Cycling Good For Acne?
One of the questions I’ve been asked a lot recently is whether skin cycling is good for acne.
Skin cycling became hugely popular on TikTok and usually involves rotating between exfoliation, retinoids and recovery nights throughout the week.
The truth is, it can work well for some people.
But when it comes to acne, I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all skincare.
One person’s perfect skin cycling routine can be another person’s reason for increased breakouts, irritation or a damaged skin barrier.
For some acne sufferers, the exfoliation is too much. For others, the retinoid may be too strong or used too frequently. Some people aren’t using enough active treatment, whilst others are doing too much and leaving their skin overwhelmed.
This is why I always come back to the same message:
Treat your acne, not the trend.
The best routine is the one designed for your skin, your acne type and your skin goals.
Acne can be influenced by hormones, inflammation, genetics, lifestyle and skin barrier health, which is why personalised advice is so important.
