Tattooing has existed across cultures and generations for thousands of years. Long before trends, social media and modern tattoo studios, people were using tattoos to tell stories, honour achievements, express identity and mark their place in the world.
The woman pictured is Apo Whang-Od, the legendary Kalinga tattoo artist from the Philippines, who has dedicated her life to preserving the traditional art of hand-tapped tattooing 🤍
