🌞 Heat Intolerance & Autism 🌞
With temperatures set to rise over the next few days, it’s important to remember that hot weather can be particularly challenging for some autistic individuals.
Many autistic people experience difficulties regulating their body temperature and may not always recognise when they are becoming too hot, thirsty or dehydrated.
This can lead to:
☀️ Overheating quickly
💧 Forgetting to drink enough water
😵 Feeling dizzy, faint or unwell in the heat
👕 Increased discomfort from hot, sticky clothing
🧠 Sensory overload, anxiety, meltdowns, or shutdowns
❤️ Additional challenges for those with conditions such as POTS or dysautonomia
Everyone experiences autism differently, but for many, hot weather can have a significant impact on daily life and wellbeing.
As temperatures rise, small adjustments can make a big difference:
🌊 Stay hydrated
🌊 Take regular breaks in the shade
🌊 Wear cool, comfortable clothing
🌊 Use fans, cooling towels, or other cooling aids
🌊 Be patient and understanding
Sometimes the signs of overheating aren’t always obvious, so a little extra awareness and support can go a long way. 💙
