Yesterdday, with our papier mache shells ready to go, we covered them in orange tissue paper and cut out features. Once dried we will add shading and tea lights to get them glowing!

In the afternoon we gathered in the small lounge for some knitting and crochet. Some residents needed a refresher on both and chose their preferred needles and wool colours.

We started our Wednesday morning with a great game of skittles followed by a round of giant darts. Each resident played to achieve the biggest score. One resident scored the maximum 300 points!

It was very much a group effort on Tuesday. We all thought of words for our word wheel and came up with a diverse amount and discovered a few new ones along the way! National Activity Providers Association

Monday started with stretching and exercising to music. We reminded ourselves of a simple arm choreography which motivated everyone to get moving and complete it as a group. .

Aveley Lodge Care Home is in the running for not one but two prestigious national awards! The home has been shortlisted in the Regional Care Home of the Year South category as well as the Activities Team of the Year category in the ninth annual Caring UK Awards, which recognise excellence and achievement within the care sector across the UK. A huge congratulations to the staff team and activities team and we wish you the very best of luck at these awards.

Caring UK Awards event director Victoria Hewitt said: “The Caring UK Awards are now in their ninth year. We have had more entries than ever before and our finalists really have reason to celebrate as it’s a huge achievement to have made the shortlist and is testament to the teams behind each.” The awards are organised by Script Events in conjunction with leading care industry magazine Caring UK, with support from headline sponsor Virgin Money. The winners will be revealed at a glittering awards ceremony at The Athena in Leicester on Thursday, December 3 when the industry will gather to salute all that is great about the care sector.

This week we tried something new! Residents played Blankety Blank, a much-loved show that was on a Saturday night and was still causing a few giggles from the resident’s cheeky answers. We had fun and will play this again at some point.

This week we planted different coloured Hyacinths. These are specially prepared bulbs to make sure they come out for Christmas time.
