Chapter 6 - Hello June

Take a moment to feel the warmth, take a breath and believe that the things happening around you ARE for you.

And smile for you.

A lovely cool treatment room for today's clients - luckily I have a normally cool room but drawing the blind for the warmest part of the day has definitely helped.

What wasn't cool, was the reception my clients had, and the conversation and rest flowed in abundance.

I'm taking a few days off for some family time but am back on June 1st - I'll pop up my June availability shortly but now for now I'm off to keep cool.

Remember to drink plenty!

Phew; what a whirlwind day!

Today was assessment day but sadly I have no photos to give you a glimpse into what I was doing - in typical "only me" fashion we finished our assessment and the fire alarms went off so we had to evacuate!

We've definitely made the best of the rest of the day with a wander around town; making some new friends, chatting with some fabulous people and generally, exploring London and eating cake.

A super huge thank you to the amazing who has been down this weekend to support and act as my exam "body". Please, please if you're in Chester pop into her shop - it's a veritable treasure trove and the atmosphere is amazing.

For now; I'm off home and to bed - you'll have to wait a little longer to discover what I'm about to add to my treatments; but I think you'll like it.....

It may have been a while since I popped on my scrubs and worked at my local hospital, but it doesn't mean that I don't think about all those I have worked with and the continued pressures that they are put under.

As I get ready to finally close the door on a 26 year nursing career, I know that I have had some amazing opportunities, pushed myself more than I knew possible, faced some extremes and seen humankind at its best (and occasionally it's worst).

As I continue with this next phase of my life and career, I take along so many experiences, and an ethos that will continue to drive me, and my practice, forwards.

For now though, to all my ex-colleagues I am in constant awe of all you are achieving within a profession that has changed so much; even in my lifetime.

Thank you for continuing to do what you do.

It's always lovely to have feedback but words like these mean everything.

My clients are at the centre of everything I do and the treatments I offer are carefully selected to ensure that I'm meeting the needs of the women who come and see me.

Knowing that I'm meeting those needs and providing a space where clients feel rested, seen and supported means the world to me.

It means I'm on the right track.

It means that I'm realising what I set out to achieve.

And that's all I can ask for.

I don't always know what therapy a client wants before they walk through the door so there are times when my couch set up looks a little different.

And that's okay. What we want and need changes frequently and there can be times when the overwhelm is so great that you can't make that decision and need someone else to take the reigns.

And that's where I can step in - those first few minutes in my treatment space are some of the most important . It is where you stop, pause and tell me where you're at.

Then we can decide which therapy is best.

Then you can be supported in switching out of fight/flight mode and back into a more restful state.

There I can help relieve the tension and stress you are holding.

There I meet you where you and your body are; no expectations, no judgement.

And so we slope into May with the warmth of the sun and an occasional sting of the wind. But my Nan always used to say "nay cast a clout, til May is out" so she knew that May often still had some surprises in terms of weather.

But having been on the best part of a (unplanned) 10 mile walk, today was definitely a day where I didn't need a clout.

I sat looking at the clouds slowly disappearing, remembering how I used to think as a child that my staring at them was making them disintegrate (much like shown in a film not that long ago!).

April passed me by in a blur of case studies, learning, travelling, working and time with my family so today has been the most perfect way to ease into May.

And I am excited to see what May brings.

Beltane blessings to you all.

I've not posted much recently as I've been wholly focussed on my clients and the course I'm currently on. And I'm not going to lie; it's been intense.

On day one of our course our tutor warned us that this would "take over your life" and she wasn't wrong - in the last 13 days alone I've performed 14 case studies and written an updated business case.

And all whilst continuing to see my beautiful clients.

Now it's back to a bit of reality, and a need to keep the practice up before my assessment in 3 weeks.

Thank you to the amazing 7 volunteers who allowed me to use them as my case studies - I hugely appreciate your time, support and trust in me.

Hopefully I'll get back to posting a little more regularly again and telling you more about the therapies that I offer. But for now, rest and maybe a little more reading!

Another busy day in London continuing on my course.

It was lovely to have time to wander down the South Bank this morning and again this evening before grabbing a bite to eat at Waterloo (if you've not tried the food at they are with a look!).

My brain is buzzing but I'm remarkably relaxed and I can't wait to bring this new practice to you all.

For now, remember the words of Paddington "everyone is different, and that means anyone can fit in"
