Healthier Fleetwood was formed in 2016, that's 10 years of connecting the local community to support the health and wellbeing of residents and the amazing, vibrant network of groups and organisations active in and around the Town.

As we look ahead to what the next 10 years may bring, the time is right to expand our small team and we're offering a new, paid role of Volunteer Coordinator.

We are looking for somebody who is experienced in recruiting, managing and supporting volunteers on their journey. Somebody who can 'hit the ground running' by getting out there, be confident meeting people, listening to what they want to achieve and have the skills to make a difference to their lives. A knowledge of the Fleetwood community would be useful but may not be essential for the right candidate.

Some of the volunteers would support Healthier Fleetwood at our Information Centre in The HUB Fleetwood or at engagement events, others may be matched by the Volunteer Coordinator with partners in the Fleetwood community who also need help.

This will be a part-time position of 15 hours per week, on a fixed term of 18 months from the start date in October or early November, through to around April/May of 2028. It's anticipated that one day per week (5 hours) will be based at our Information Centre, the remaining hours working in the community, on a flexible rota.

Paid at the current 'Real Living Wage' of £13.45 per hour, it works out to around £875 per month but please be aware the role is on a self-employed basis.

At this point you may have decided this isn't for you, in which case thanks for reading so far but if you are intrigued and want to know more ... by all means get in touch with any questions. Send them by direct message through this page or by email to [email protected]

Please DO NOT put any questions in the comments but feel free to tag anyone who might be interested in this opportunity.

If you'd like to apply send your CV and a single page covering letter to the email above.

We are looking to put together shortlist over the next 2 or 3 weeks and get a few people in for an informal chat by the end of the month.

Thank you and good luck!

Congratulations to the Friends of Fleetwood Memorial Park for the opening of the new play area earlier today with the Mayor of Wyre, Cllr Steve Nicholls, local residents and children from Shakespeare Primary School.

The scheme included the removal of ageing play equipment and worn play bark surfacing, replacing them with 10 new play features, wet-pour safety surfacing and durable grass matting beneath lower-level equipment.

The upgrades have been designed to provide creative, inclusive and high-quality play opportunities for children aged from 4 to 12 years old.

The £108,000 project has been funded through £104,000 of developer contributions, alongside a £4,000 contribution from Wyre Council.

We popped along to the park this afternoon to take a look and also spoke to Iain Johnstone, chair of the Friends of Memorial Park. He said, "I'm delighted to see the new area open after lots of hard work. We're really pleased with everything and look forward to seeing children and families enjoying the new facilities."

Councillor Simon Bridge, Portfolio Holder for Street Scene, Parks and Open Spaces for Wyre Council added, "We're grateful to the Friends of Memorial Park for their continued support throughout the project."
