RASPBERRY LEAF TEA🌿🫖
I’ve had a few questions about RLT recently, so thought I’d do a wee post about it, as it is one of the most commonly, but incorrectly used natural remedies in pregnancy.
Contrary to what you may have been told or read online, RLT does NOT start natural labour or make your body start having contractions.
Instead it should be used as a pre labour preparation, to help tone and prepare your uterine muscles for the hard job ahead. When your uterus is working strongly and effectively, this can help contribute to a shorter and more effective labour! Think of it as someone training for a marathon…… slow and steady training over months, you wouldn’t go for a quick 5 minute run the night before and hope you’ll be fine 🏃🏻♀️😝
Many pregnant women don’t start taking RLT until the very end of their pregnancy, or once they are overdue, drinking gallons of the stuff in a desperate attempt to avoid induction of labour.
But actually, RLT can be taken in tea or tablet form from 32 weeks gestation, and if taken regularly and in the correct doses (increasing the amount appropriately as you get closer to your due date), can be extremely effective and safe for both mum and baby.
However, RLT not suitable for many women during pregnancy, as it can cause preterm labour, overstimulation or scar problems if taken incorrectly.
You should not consume raspberry leaf tea if you have had or currently experiencing any of the following …
❌Previous c-section
❌Are expecting twins/triplets
❌If baby is breech/transverse
❌Placenta is low lying
❌You have epilepsy
❌High blood pressure/pre-eclampsia
❌Current or previous blood clot
❌IBS or Crohn’s disease
❌Endomentrisosis or Fibroids
❌Gestational/type 1 or 2 Diabetes
Please always seek the advice from your midwife whether it is safe to take.
And remember, just because something is “natural”, does not mean it is safe!
