Alcohol continues to have a significant and preventable impact on Scotland's health, yet many of the harms associated with alcohol are not always immediately recognised.

Alongside conditions directly caused by alcohol, consumption also contributes to a range of health issues, including cancers, cardiovascular disease and diabetes. Understanding these partially attributable harms helps build a more complete picture of alcohol's impact across Scotland.

Our latest blog explores newly released data from the Alcohol Consumption and Harms dashboard, highlighting the continuing inequalities in alcohol-related harm and the importance of evidence-based approaches to improve health outcomes.

AFTERNOON CLOSURE: WEDNESDAY 2 SEPTEMBER, 1PM - 6PM

In line with other NHS Tayside GP Practices, we will be closed from 1pm on Wednesday 2 September for staff training.

For anything URGENT that cannot wait until we reopen on Thursday at 8am, we will remain contactable through our main phone line.

The receptionist will ask for a summary of your problem and will signpost you accordingly, or refer you to the Out of Hours Team, who will then contact you to address your concern.

GP Practices throughout Tayside are committed to providing patients with the highest quality care. They participate in a number of Protected Learning Time (PLT) sessions throughout the year which allows them to provide access to training for the whole practice team.

Most GP Practices throughout Tayside will be closed for routine appointments between 1-6pm on Wednesday 2 September to take part in PLT sessions.
Please be assured, access to urgent care for patients will continue throughout this time.

During those hours on Wednesday 2 September, GP practices will continue to be contactable by phone to access urgent care which cannot wait until the practice reopens the following morning or to make any future appointments or medication requests.

GP surgeries will resume their usual working hours again on Thursday 3 September.

After someone dies, there can be so much to think about — and managing household bills and energy supplies can feel like another worry at an already difficult time.

Cruse Scotland has partnered with SGN to help ensure bereaved people can access energy support services designed to help them maintain a safe, warm home.

Did you know you may be eligible for the Priority Services Register (PSR) following a bereavement?

The PSR is a free, UK-wide service that offers extra advice and support, including during interruptions to your electricity, gas, or water supply.

Support can include:
🌿 Information in accessible formats
🌿 Help with meter readings and bill payments
🌿 Information about how you’ll be supported during planned supply interruptions.

If you or someone you know has been bereaved, registering for the PSR could provide some extra reassurance and practical support when it’s needed most.
