Today we are highlighting to thank all who make health and care research possible.

is about coming together to show appreciation for everyone involved in research, from participants to professionals, volunteers, regulatory bodies, and partners behind the scenes who bring studies to life.

Research doesn’t just happen – people make it happen.

We are proud to be a research practice, something we believe is vital to improving care for our patients. Being a practice that promotes research fits with our value ‘always learning’ and we are ideally positioned to act as a research hub for our community.

We are linked to the National Institute for Health and Care Research and we promote and share opportunities with patients about research they can get involved in on our social media pages. Thank you to everyone who has put themselves forward to take part in the several different research opportunities we've recently shared.

Today is Clean Air Day, something we mention each year because of the impact air pollution can have can have on our health.

Air pollution affects everyone’s health. It’s linked to a range of health problems throughout our lives – from premature birth and childhood asthma to heart and lung disease, diabetes and strokes in later life. We may be exposed to higher levels of air pollution because of where we live, and children, older people and people with existing health conditions experience the health harms of dirty air more than others.

Reducing levels of harmful air pollution in our communities will have health benefits for us all, helping both children and adults live longer and healthier lives.

Many of the solutions that will deliver cleaner air, like improving and using public transport and decarbonising our homes, will also help us cut carbon emissions and protect our natural environment.

For some time now, we've been asking people to turn off their engines whilst they wait for people who may be visiting the practice, or any of the other services on the site here. We are also, as we always do, encouraging staff to leave their cars at home when possible when coming to work.

We want to do what we can to help people breathe cleaner air, to protect our more vulnerable patients and to support everyone to live healthier lives and we hope you will do the same.

Would you like to make small changes that can lead to a healthier life? If so, our Habits for Health programme is for you!

Habits for Health is a 6 week group that supports you to focus on what matters most for your health, making small changes that can lead to a healthier life. Whether it’s moving more, sleeping better or finding balance in day to day life, starting with small steps can make a big difference. Here are the details of our next group, which starts soon:

Exploring public awareness of the NHS Health Check programme

The Department for Health and Social Care (DHSC) and NHS England (NHSE) are running a short survey to learn what people think about the NHS Health Check programme.

The public perspective - whether you've heard of or used the service or not - is incredibly valuable. This survey will help the DHSC and NHSE understand what’s working, what isn’t, and how the programme can better reach and support people in staying healthy.

The survey should take around 10 minutes to complete. It is anonymous and open to everyone. The survey will be open until the 30th June.

👨‍💻 DIGITAL HEALTH SUPPORT AVAILABLE THIS WEEK

Our digital support team will be available at various times again this week, to help any of our patients needing assistance with digital health issues, such as downloading and using the NHS App, setting up a linked profile on the App (proxy access), using our online forms, ordering repeat prescriptions online and so on.

Here's where to find the team this week (please note our Thursday session at the practice will finish at 6pm this week and there's no session at Fair Frome this week).

Tuesday 16th June
10am to midday at the practice
1pm to 3pm at Sainsbury’s

Wednesday 17th June
10am to midday Holy Trinity Church Hall

Thursday 18th June
10am to 11:30am at the Cheese and Grain
4pm to 6pm at the practice (change from usual time)

🗣 LET'S TALK PROSTATE CANCER

We're inviting patients to an information and discussion evening about prostate cancer. The session will be attended by one of our GPs, Julie Carey-Downes from our Health Connections Team and one of our patients who will be sharing his personal experience of living with prostate cancer, as well as discussing plans to establish a local support group, which is something we are often asked about.

This event aims to provide helpful information, encourage open discussion, and support the development of a local community network.

This is a free event for our patients, but please register to come along (see below).

Menopause Group Discussion - coming up next week

Our Menopause Discussion Group is for patients registered with us who are considering taking HRT for the first time. Here are the details of our next group:

📅 Tuesday 16th June 2026
🕒 6.15pm to 8pm (you will need to be able to attend for the whole session)
📍 Frome Medical Practice

During the session we will talk about:

✅ Menopause symptoms and how they vary from person to person.
✅ Ways to manage symptoms.
✅ HRT treatment options, including benefits and risks.
✅ Alternative treatments, such as lifestyle changes.
✅ Signposting to other support resources

We'll need you to register if you'd like to come along. You can do that via our online form, search 'menopause discussion group' on our home page or click the link below:

These groups take place each month and are led by a female clinician and give us time to go into detail about perimenopause, menopause, symptoms and treatment options.

Did you know that PCOS has been renamed Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome (PMOS)?

What is PMOS?

PMOS is characterised by fluctuations in hormones, with impacts on weight, metabolic and mental health, skin, and the reproductive system.

Why has the name been changed?

The new name aims to improve the diagnosis and care of a condition affecting 1 in 8 women (or 170 million women worldwide). The name change is the result of a global effort, as the condition was so often misunderstood to be ‘all about ovarian cysts’.

For too long, the name reduced a complex, long term hormonal or endocrine disorder to a misunderstanding about ‘cysts’ and a focus on ovaries. This contributed to missed diagnoses and inadequate treatment.
