💻 Digital Health Support available this week

Come and see our digital health team this week if you need help with things like:

📲 updating your contact details with us - including letting us know your email address if you have one
📲 downloading and using the NHS App
📲 letting us know your email address (increasingly important as a way of communicating with patients)
📲 using the text links we send out to book appointments
📲 ordering repeat prescriptions online
📲 setting up a linked profile (proxy access) so you can use the NHS App on behalf of a relative or friend

Sessions are for patients registered with us, with the exception of the Cheese and Grain, Holy Trinity and Standerwick Market sessions, which are open to anyone in Frome who needs support with IT issues (not just health related.)

No appointments needed but do bring your mobile phone or tablet along with you if you can. Here's where you can find the team this week:

Tuesday 20th October
10am to midday at the practice
1pm to 3pm at Sainsbury’s

Wednesday 21st October
10am to midday Holy Trinity Church Hall

Thursday 22nd October
10am to 11:30am at the Cheese and Grain

🥳 Congratulations to our Digital Health Team!

We have been Highly Commended at the recent Health Tech Awards, in the ‘Digital Inclusion and Improving Health Inequalities’ category. The practice was recognised for its work to bridge the digital divide.

What does that mean?

We want to support as many patients as possible to use the NHS App and other online services. But we know that not everyone finds it easy to use online services. Here's how we help and what has happened as a result:

🗣 We offer over 13 hours a week of community based digital support, reaching thousands of patients
📲 We can provide devices, data and hands on guidance when needed - over 5,000 patients have received direct digital support, and 450 free devices and 200 data SIMS have been given to patients in need
➡ NHS App uptake has reached 79% (higher than regional and national averages)
💊 There has been a 69% increase in repeat prescriptions ordered digitally
🙂 Patients report increased confidence in going online and a greater independence in managing their health

🗣 Opportunity to take part in the Veteran Connection Programme

The move from military to civilian life isn’t just a change of job - it’s a change of identity, community and purpose, which means finding your ‘place’ again. The Veteran Connection Programme helps veterans rediscover their identity, purpose and belonging. Veterans who joined the programme felt happier, healthier and less alone, as well as more confident and more connected.

Join a 1 day veteran led workshop, open to both veterans and service leavers of all ranks, cap badges and genders. The workshops take place at various locations across England and compensation is payable to those who attend.

If you were at the practice or on the Old Showfield today, you might have spotted the wonderful rangers from Frome Town Council who were helping us with some routine maintenance work along our very precious hedgerow.

The hedgerow is really important to us as a wildlife habitat and also a wildlife corridor. It provides shelter for invertebrates, birds and mammals, as well as vital food sources, such as berries and nuts. It's also used as a commuter route and foraging by our local bats!

Hedgerows are also important as a tool in the fight to slow down climate change - they ensure soil stays healthy and healthier soils store more carbon. In the wider landscape around us, hedgerows can reduce the impacts of drought and flooding.

Thanks very much to the Rangers for helping us ensure our hedgerow remains a thriving habitat - we're already looking forward to seeing it's new growth next spring 💚

👨‍💻 DIGITAL HEALTH SUPPORT AVAILABLE THIS WEEK

Our digital support team will be available at various times again this week, to help any of our patients needing assistance with digital health issues, such as using our online request form, letting us know your email address (or setting one up), downloading and using the NHS App, using our online forms, ordering repeat prescriptions online and so on.

No appointments needed but please bring your mobile phone or tablet if you are coming to see us.

Menopause Group Discussion - register your interest now

Our Menopause Discussion Group is for patients registered with us who are considering taking HRT for the first time. Here are the details of our next group:

📅 Tuesday 20th October 2026
🕒 6pm to 8pm (you will need to be able to attend for the whole session)
📍 Frome Medical Practice

During the session we will talk about:

✅ Menopause symptoms and how they vary from person to person.
✅ Ways to manage symptoms.
✅ HRT treatment options, including benefits and risks.
✅ Alternative treatments, such as lifestyle changes.
✅ Signposting to other support resources

Our winter vaccination clinics continue this week, which means the practice will be much busier than usual. This might also impact demand on spaces in our car park.

We are asking patients, where possible, to walk, cycle or use public transport to get to the practice.

The Number 30 bus now regularly stops on the Frome Medical Centre site.

We know this won't be possible for all our patients so where you are able to come to the practice without using a car it would be very much appreciated.

The app allows you to:

✅ track your progress
✅ see how much you're saving
✅ get daily support

Once you reach 28 days smoke-free, you're much more likely to quit for good!

Whether you're living with a long-term health condition, low mood, or want to manage things like hypertension or cholesterol, the programme may be for you.

From moving more to sleeping better, starting with small steps can make a big difference. The programme supports you in building healthier habits and gaining confidence in managing your health.

Through practical activities, group discussions and weekly habit-building challenges, you'll develop the skills and confidence to make lasting changes.
