While most of us were fast asleep, our emergency team were working through the night caring for not one, but two patients requiring blood transfusions.

Our blood was delivered out of hours by Pet Blood Bank UK, meaning our whole out of hours team had to work seamlessly together. Our on-call nurse was called in, while our night nurse, on-call vet and night patient care assistant worked closely together over a 6 hour period to monitor both patients throughout their transfusions, while continuing to provide the high level of care needed by all of our other hospitalised patients.

A huge thank you to our incredible emergency team. It’s a brilliant example of the teamwork that goes on behind the scenes, around the clock, to care for our patients when they need us most. ❤️‍🩹

Barney came to us in Warminster for his routine surgery.
He enjoyed lots of cuddles with our Patient Care Assistant, Chloe, and was more than happy to enjoy some belly rubs while recovering! 💚

Barney also enjoyed having a good sniff of the Feliway diffuser in our cat ward. As a Cat Friendly Clinic, we use Feliway as part of creating a calm, comfortable environment for our feline patients. 😻

Lily's Orthopaedic Journey 🐾

Meet Lily, the much-loved dog of our Orthopaedic Nurse, Georgina.

Like many terriers, Lily had always been full of energy, but George began to notice the occasional hop during walks. At first, it seemed like nothing more than a quirky terrier trait, but over time the hopping became more frequent until it was happening on every walk.

After an examination with our Warminster Lead Vet, Neil, Lily was diagnosed with a Grade 3 luxating patella, where her kneecap was sitting out of place most of the time. Surgery was the only option to restore her comfort and mobility.

Despite assisting with these procedures regularly as part of her job, George admits that seeing things from the perspective of a pet owner was very different.
"I was petrified about the recovery, keeping her calm and managing the rehabilitation, especially with a six-month-old puppy at home who just wanted to play!"

During surgery, it became clear just how severe the problem was. Lily had very little groove for her kneecap to sit in, confirming that surgery was absolutely the right decision.

Four months later, Lily is doing brilliantly. She's still continuing her rehabilitation with Mark at Holmarsh Canine Hydrotherapy, and isn't quite back to full activity yet, but she's gradually returning to longer walks and enjoying life once again. 💚
