Tito’s unusual hyperthyroidism journey! ❤️🩹
Hyperthyroidism, or an overactive thyroid, is common in older cats and often causes an increased appetite. Tito was different, with a poor appetite making it difficult for her family to give her medication.
Our vet, Jamie, discussed the treatment options with Tito’s family, and they decided surgery was the best choice.
An ultrasound revealed a significantly enlarged right thyroid gland, pushing her windpipe slightly to one side. The abnormal gland was successfully removed, with care taken to preserve the tiny parathyroid gland alongside it.
A few weeks on, Tito is doing brilliantly! She’s eating normally, gaining weight and feeling much happier. Her cone is finally off, too, and she’s looking forward to a well-deserved pampering session! 💚
