“Why are you paying for aesthetic treatments? Ageing is a privilege that a lot of people don’t get.”

It’s something many women have heard at some point, usually when they mention wanting to soften a few lines, refresh their appearance or simply feel a little more confident in their own skin.

The thing is, the two ideas don’t cancel each other out.

Growing older is absolutely a privilege, and most of us become more aware of that with every passing year. But acknowledging that doesn’t mean you have to love every change that comes with it, or feel guilty for wanting to look a little more rested, refreshed or like the version of yourself you still feel inside.

Nobody questions someone for colouring their hair, wearing makeup or choosing clothes that make them feel good, yet when it comes to aesthetic treatments, there can sometimes be an expectation that women should simply accept every visible sign of ageing without wanting to do anything about it.
