You may remember, a few weeks ago we shared that one of our amazing patients, Steven Ridley, is running the Great North Run to raise money for our IVF Unit 🙌💖🏃

Here's more from Steven about why he's chosen to fundraise for us 👇👇

"I am running the 2026 GNR for the IVF unit at Gateshead Queen Elizabeth Hospital. My wife and I have been receiving treatment from the unit for the last year with their support, care and knowledge from the wonderful staff.

"As we continue this journey to make our dream come true of starting our own family, we are so grateful for the unit and the service it provides for us and many others.Any donations would be greatly appreciated."

"In 2020 we were referred for fertility treatment. Whilst there were a lot of unknowns with a pandemic mixed in, we felt supported throughout.

"We are very grateful to Gateshead fertility, as they helped us become parents to our first born Zachary in 2021 and more recently, this year we welcomed Oscar from our one remaining embryo. Thank you so much for completing our family ☺️"

"We started trying to get pregnant in 2018 with no success and after a laparoscopic surgery and 2 rounds of clinic a friend advised us to transfer to Gateshead QE fertility unit where Issac immediately recognised that it was not unexplained infertility as we’d been told but that I in fact had PCOS and that I did not ovulate nor did my womb lining thicken on its own.

"After a 6 month delay thanks to covid, we had a rocky first round but were lucky enough to fall pregnant with our daughter Clara who was born in August 2021.
We had 3 subsequent rounds where we fell pregnant each time but experienced early pregnant losses between 9 & 13 weeks — further tests showed I had other hormonal issues which could not have been routinely diagnosed. I started taking additional medication and supplements before we had our 5th and final round with transfer in July 2024. Even when we got our positive I don’t think we believed we would have a successful pregnancy until we got to hold our baby boy Jonah in our arms in March 2025.

"The staff and treatment at the unit were incredible. They didn’t just care about our fertility journey, they cared about us as people. During our first round we lost my father in law, I remember Courtney calling us to check in and see how we were, how my mother in law was and ask about the family. We weren’t just patients, we were humans.

"I feel so lucky to have had such wonderful care and to be blessed with our two beautiful, crazy tiny humans. We can’t thank the staff and the unit enough, they changed our whole world and made it whole."

Thank you to former patient, Toni-Marie. A wonderful patient story for a new week! 💖😍💫

"We first started treatment in October 2024 after 3 years of infertility, unfortunately our first round of IVF failed but all of the staff were excellent and recommended changes for our second round.

"Fast forward to May 2025 and after our second round of IVF/ICSI we had our one and only embryo transferred. In January 2026 we welcomed our gorgeous girl Eleanor ❤️

"We cannot thank the team at the QE enough for all of their amazing kindness and care they honestly felt like a second family during our treatment with them!"
