Remember that the main reason we eat and hydrate is to support the millions of functions which our body and brain does to keep us healthy.

But food is also an important cultural language symbolising social connection, heritage and identity - even personal ethics and sustainability. It’s a way of exploring when travelling. Dipping into different recipes, customs and traditions.

And that’s important to hold onto when you’re on a GLP-1.

If you’re following someone who is posting “what I eat in a day” and you can’t be sure they are

đŸ©· enjoying their food
đŸ©· supporting their long-term health
đŸ©· supporting their brain and mood

or that they’re helping you do the same, why are you following them?

A calorie deficit is important but it is not the only consideration if you’re looking to maintain or build health.

Undoing years of diet culture is part of a healthy GLP-1 journey - not the foundation. So hearing someone claim that they forgot to eat, is a red flag đŸš© not a green one.

The book that was written for every woman who has ever Googled questions about GLP-1 weight loss.

Because you deserve more than diet culture served up with needles and swabs.

Sharing how your body made it so hard for you, why “eat less and move more” didn’t work, whether food noise will stay forever and so much more.

The priority list is open. (link in bio)

The diet culture wrapped around the drugs is (in my experience) more of a problem than the drugs themselves and leads potentially to increased nutrient deficiencies.

Nutrient dense food when appetite is low balanced with healthy food when appetite increases (eg. towards the end of each week), is more important than simply counting calories. Honestly.

So many women share that they choose prepackaged salamis for a high protein snack because they say “100% pork” or “protein boost” on them.

They’re surprised when I share that each one is less than 25% protein (by weight) when they have that 100% sticker on them.

What the labelling is telling you, is that of that protein, (about 5g) it is all from pork.

It’s worth knowing that from a food labelling perspective “High Protein” only needs to provide ≄ 20% of the total energy (calories).

And “Source of Protein” only needs to provide ≄ 12% of the total energy.

What’s your favourite protein snack?

This a common question when women are on any GLP-1 medication - not just Mounjaro.

And it can happen at any dose, depending how sensitive you are to its effects on your reward pathways.

It may mean that you cancel a night out with friends; can’t find the motivation to do your usual exercise; or even prepare food.

Deciding “what next” is easier when you know what’s happening in your body.

It’s easier when you don’t feel as anxious about whether you’re doing it “right”.

When you have all the information and insights at your fingertips.

That’s why I wrote my book. And why I wrote it specially for women on GLP-1s - because we’re wired differently.

I am so passionate about making a difference both to women on a GLP-1 and to Health Care Professionals who want to understand more about how insulin resistance changes the signalling of hunger, appetite and satiety (before it changes HbA1C).

Proud to be part of the speaker panel on “allyship” this week.

For me, this is active and intentional support of those that don’t have an equal voice.

Both proactively and reactively ,
