Helping Autistic or ADHD Children Manage Exam Burnout with Self-Regulation

I’ve read a few posts with autistic & ADHD children that feel burnout after exams and thought I’d share this to help with self regulation. Hope it helps 🙏 Help them to reclaim their breath if they feel lost 😞

The nervous system has often been running in a prolonged state of stress (“go, go, go”), and once the exams are over, the body can crash into exhaustion, low mood, brain fog, irritability, or emotional overwhelm.

My first choice: Coherent Breathing

This is simple, evidence-based, and usually well tolerated.

* Inhale through the nose for 5 seconds

* Exhale through the nose for 5 seconds

* Continue for 5-10 minutes

This helps regulate the autonomic nervous system and can reduce the lingering stress response without being overstimulating.

If they’re feeling anxious or wired

Use an extended exhale:

* Inhale for 4

* Exhale for 6-8

Practice for 2-5 minutes.

The longer exhale encourages a shift toward rest-and-digest physiology.

If they’re exhausted but mentally stuck

Try gentle humming breath:

* Inhale through the nose

* Hum softly on the exhale

For 5–10 breaths.

The vibration can be calming and may help interrupt repetitive thinking.

We are living in a world that constantly pulls us away from ourselves.

More noise. More comparison. More pressure to keep up with an image of life that, if we’re honest, often bears little resemblance to reality.

Many of us feel it. A quiet restlessness. A sense of always doing, but rarely being. Busy schedules, endless responsibilities, and yet a lingering feeling that something is missing. Connected online, but disconnected from ourselves.

Conscious Connected Breathwork offers a way back.

Not by changing anything outside of you, but by helping you reconnect with what already exists within.

Through the simple yet powerful act of conscious breathing, the nervous system begins to regulate, the mind softens, and the constant noise of everyday life starts to fade into the background. In the Oxygen Chamber and Omg I’ve gone on a bit, must be all the oxygen to the brain but it’s worth a watch as I get very passionate about what I’m doing here and how I can help you both physically, emotionally and mentally. Loved 🥰 ones can appear in dreams to let you know they are safe and well and just to give you reassurance that they are always beside you. Being a medium I’ve had this happen often and also while I meditate. Well on the 16th May I had a dream about a boy called Elliot, he was around 5-6 years old, he said he just wanted to let his mum know he was ok and not to worry. I haven’t been able to place him so if you can take it or know someone who is worried about Elliot then can you let her know he’s ok and if he can visit me then he will visit her too. Thanks 🙏 x

Hello, I'm Helen and something to know about me is that I’m a holistic therapist that specialises in Breathwork, Reiki, transformational Healing and spiritual practices.
