🧠💜 June is Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month 💜🧠 We are raising awareness of Alzheimer's disease, dementia and other conditions that can affect brain health, memory, concentration, decision-making and, ultimately, the ability to drive safely.

At DriveAbility Scotland, we understand that concerns about driving can be one of the most difficult and emotional challenges faced by individuals and their families following a diagnosis.

Driving is often closely linked to independence, confidence and connection to the community, which is why it's so important to have access to professional, impartial advice.

Our specialist Fitness to Drive Assessments are designed to provide a clear picture of an individual's driving ability, helping people make informed decisions about their future mobility.

Our clinically led assessment team includes:

👩‍⚕️ Experienced Occupational Therapists

🚗 Specialist Driving Assessors

📝 Comprehensive assessments with personalised recommendations

🤝 Supportive, person-centred advice for individuals and families

We work with people living with a wide range of neurological conditions, including Alzheimer's disease, vascular dementia, Parkinson's disease, stroke and acquired brain injuries.

A driving assessment isn't about taking away independence, it's about understanding what support may be needed to maintain it safely for as long as possible.

Whether that means continuing to drive, exploring vehicle adaptations, undertaking refresher training, or considering alternative mobility options, we're here to help every step of the way.

💙 World MS Day 2026 💙

A diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis can bring uncertainty and new challenges, but it doesn't have to mean losing your independence.

This World MS Day, we're celebrating the resilience, determination and achievements of people living with MS and highlighting the life-changing impact that the right support can have.

David was diagnosed with relapsing-remitting MS in 2004. As his condition progressed, he needed to explore vehicle adaptations that would allow him to continue driving safely and independently.

David attended an assessment with DriveAbility Scotland at our Inverness outreach facility and throughout the assessment process, David felt supported, reassured and empowered by our team.

🗣️ "They were incredibly supportive throughout the entire process. I'm still getting used to being out and about in my wheelchair, but I felt reassured every step of the way."

Most importantly, the assessment helped David see a clear path forward.

🗣️ "Afterward, my endorphins were through the roof. I knew I was finally going to get what I needed, and I can't put into words how elated I felt knowing my independence was within reach again."

His message to others living with MS is simple:

🗣️ "If you have the opportunity, just do it. If you want your independence, don't hesitate - it's absolutely worth it."

At DriveAbility Scotland, we know that driving is about much more than getting from A to B. It's about freedom, confidence, connection and maintaining independence.

This World MS Day, we're proud to support people across Scotland to stay mobile, active and connected to the things that matter most. 💙

🧠 Every 90 seconds, someone in the UK is admitted to hospital with a brain injury.

For many people, returning to driving is a huge step toward rebuilding confidence, independence, and everyday freedom - but the journey isn’t always straightforward.

This Action for Brain Injury Week, DriveAbility Scotland is proud to support the “On a Good Day” campaign, helping raise awareness of the hidden and fluctuating effects of brain injury.

Symptoms such as fatigue, memory difficulties, reduced concentration, anxiety, dizziness, and sensory overload can vary from day to day - making everyday tasks, including driving, much more challenging than they may appear.

At DriveAbility Scotland, our clinically led team is here to support individuals in understanding their options and finding the safest pathway forward. We provide:

✅ Specialist Occupational Therapy & Driving Assessments
✅ Adapted Vehicle Trials & Instructor Support
✅ Confidence-Building Refresher Lessons
✅ Personalised Mobility & Vehicle Adaptation Advice
✅ Support to Regain Safe, Independent Mobility

🌿 On a good day, life can feel manageable. On a more difficult day, symptoms can feel overwhelming and isolating. Whatever stage of recovery someone is at, we’re here to provide professional, compassionate support every step of the way.

Today is Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD)! 🌍♿

At DriveAbility Scotland, we’re proud to support a more accessible and inclusive world - both on and off the road. Accessibility is about making sure everyone has equal opportunities to stay connected, independent, and confident in everyday life.

GAAD highlights the importance of ensuring that digital spaces, services, and communities are accessible to everyone, including the more than 1 billion people worldwide living with disabilities.

💡 Accessibility matters everywhere - from websites and apps to transport, mobility, and communication.

Here are a few ways we can all help create a more inclusive world:

✔️ Learn more about accessibility and inclusive design
✔️ Make digital content easy to access and understand
✔️ Listen to and involve disabled people in conversations and decision-making
✔️ Support organisations and services that champion inclusion and independence

At DriveAbility Scotland, we’re committed to helping people maintain safe mobility, confidence, and independence through clinically led driving and mobility assessments, vehicle adaptation advice, and specialist support services across Scotland.

Because accessibility should never be an afterthought, it should be the standard. 💙

At DriveAbility Scotland, we’re proud to stand with Alzheimer's Society in supporting Dementia Action Week (18-24 May 2026), highlighting this year’s powerful theme: “Diagnosis is vital.”

A timely dementia diagnosis can unlock crucial support, treatment, and future planning - including decisions around driving.

🚘 Driving with Dementia: A Delicate Balance 🚘

A diagnosis doesn’t always mean the end of driving. That’s why we offer fitness-to-drive assessments led by Occupational Therapists and DVSA Approved Driving Instructors - helping individuals and families make informed, safe decisions.

We know these conversations can be difficult. Our team provides compassionate, respectful guidance in a supportive environment - because it’s not about judgment, it’s about safety and independence.

🚘 We’re Here to Help! 🚘

If you’re concerned about a loved one’s ability to drive safely due to dementia, DriveAbility Scotland is here to assist. Our team is ready to guide you through the assessment process and discuss the best options moving forward. Contact us: 0141 648 8470 or email [email protected]

Together, we can ensure that individuals with dementia maintain their independence and safety on the road! 💙
