"He lost his life, but saved two other lives, and always will be remembered as a hero."

This is Emilis, who sadly passed on Saturday 12th of July 2025 after jumping into the water near Maryhill Road to help another person in trouble.

His mum, Daiva, wanted to share his story as part of Drowning Prevention Week in the hope it prevents other families going through this type of tragedy in future.

The area where Emilis died is a notorious spot locals know as “Slushie” — a beauty spot that hides deadly currents beneath calm water, and this type of accident can, and does happen, everywhere.

"Emilis was a very kind and amazing child who always manage to make everybody around laughing a beautiful child whose smile melted our hearts he was our only son truly the most wonderful gift we have ever received️ .He was always there for his friends and family, offering a helping hand or a listening ear, he was very smart , he could fix anything you asked him to , he also had a good memory, he knew a lot about the world and what was going on it , he knew everything you asked him.

Emilis was loved by everybody around him and cared more about everybody than himself even in last minutes of his life he showed this and gave away his life for another person, he was truly hero. We all very proud of him what he did, but at the same time our life’s was destroyed because we are not going see him anymore, only what we have left is memories about him.

We were honoured to be Emilis' parents for those 15 years. Emilis was the light of our life’s , he will never be forgotten and stay in our hearts forever. As a teenager Emilis had many hobbies such as: motorcycles, fishing, he also trained in MMA for the last months of his life he really liked it and he dreamed of becoming an MMA fighter in the near future, he also liked football, his best football team was Celtic FC" Mum, Daiva

It's International Day of Play 🎉

We want to thank our amazing Play Team for the incredible job they do bringing fun and laughter to our young patients. This International Day of Play, we’re celebrating its power and championing every child’s right to play, learn, and thrive even while they are spending time in hospital

Our Play Team help patients throughout the hospital, from short stays in day surgery to longer stays on the wards, they distract children during outpatient appointments and help bring lots of smiles during some long days

We are proud to have such a dedicated play team who can help relieve some of the pressures of being in hospital for the children and their families. Even if a child is here for an hour or two, they leave a lasting impression 🩷

Thank you to Glasgow Children's Hospital Charity for their ongoing support and funding for our play programme in the hospital

Well done, Ava 🎉

A talented young Scottish gymnast has been selected to compete at the Commonwealth Games following a journey made possible by her hard work, determination, and support of teams at the Royal Hospital for Children, Glasgow

Ava, who represents Scotland, has overcome significant health challenges over the past few years after being diagnosed with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), a lifelong condition where the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks the bowel, causing inflammation and damage.

Common symptoms include persistent diarrhoea, abdominal pain, fatigue and weight loss, often occurring in waves known as “flares”.

Understandably, the conditions at times left Ava unable to train and uncertain about her future in sport.

“If you had told me at the start of my illness that I would be going to the Commonwealth Games, I wouldn’t have believed you,” Ava added. “It’s been a tough few years, but I’m so proud to have made it through. I’m excited and nervous, but I know it’s going to be an amazing experience.”

Ava will compete across all four apparatus, beam, vault, bars and floor, representing Scotland on an international stage.

She hopes that by sharing her story, she can inspire other young people living with IBD or other health conditions.
