Seitan (pronounced say-tan) is a natural protein-rich food that has a taste and texture similar to different meats, such as chicken and beef. Its main ingredient is a flour called vital wheat gluten (VWG), which is simply flour that has been rinsed of all of its starch, leaving only the high-protein gluten behind. These mixes contain VWG, chickpea flour (or organic potato flakes for the elasticity
in the shredded seitan), and nutritional yeast – a natural source of B12. The chickpea flour provides it with lysine, which makes the seitan a complete protein. Perfectly blended herbs, spices and seasoning are added to create different flavours. Simple Seitan Mix

HOW DO YOU MAKE THEM? Each kit will have different cooking instructions depending on what the intended meat analogue/texture is desired. All kits require 1 cup of stock (any veg stock will do) and soya sauce, salt or any other flavour enhancer. No fancy equipment is needed, just a bowl, some tin foil and either a pan for simmering or a dish for cooking in the oven. All ingredients are vegan and the packaging is 100% biodegradable/recyclable. Where possible, ingredients and packaging has been purchased from smaller, local shops, such as Greencity Wholefoods in Glasgow, or Eco-Craft online. The main ingredients are VWG, chickpea flour and nutritional yeast, which are all produced in the EU.
