Dr Morgan & Dr Forbes (but not for long hehe)! Today I caught up with one of my oldest friends from university. We both met 14 years ago on the first day of University at our Halls of residence in Dundee. We’ve been buddies ever since and GOD she’s added such wonderful value to my life! Swipe left to see our picture from our intercalated degree about 8 years ago when we were have way through medical school.

Choose your friends wisely folks.. they make all the difference sometimes ❤️ As I used to say, are the family you choose for yourself.

Ever wondered why gynaecology waiting lists are so long? 👀 You went to see your GP about something and have maybe had 3 appointments cancelled back to back? 😣

It’s not because doctors aren’t working hard enough! Demand for gynaecology services has risen dramatically, with more women seeking help for conditions like heavy periods, endometriosis, fibroids, prolapse, and menopause symptoms. At the same time, services are dealing with staffing shortages, theatre capacity issues, and the backlog left behind by the pandemic - oh yes, that old thing 🦠 .

The result? Thousands of women waiting months (sometimes years) for diagnosis and treatment. Women’s health deserves better. 💛

QUESTION: Have you ever had a gynaecology appointment cancelled before?

👩🏾‍🎓 Ahhhhhhh, I genuinely can’t believe I’m writing this…

After 16 months of studying, sacrifices, practice courses, revision notes, mock exams, tears, prayers, late nights (and a huge amount of Avios points collected 🤣 Iykyk), I’ve officially passed the MRCOG Part 3 examination and am now ready to become a Member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.

This journey has been anything but a solo effort.

To my husband, thank you for tirelessly supporting me through every high and low over the last 16 months. Your encouragement never wavered, even when mine did.

To Caleb and Kofi, thank you for the cuddles that somehow made everything feel better after a long day of work and revision.

To my parents, thank you for the babysitting, the endless meals, the prayers, and for always stepping in whenever we needed help. You never once doubted me, even when I did myself.

To my mother-in-law, thank you for all your support and everything you’ve done to make this journey easier.

To my educational supervisor, thank you for your guidance, advice, encouragement, and of course the study leave!

To my friends and colleagues—those who had already been through this process and shared their wisdom, and those who were on the journey alongside me—thank you. Congratulations to everyone who passed. We did it!

A huge thank you also to the incredible independent doctors and educators who dedicate so much time to helping candidates succeed. The courses run by Summit MRCOG ( ), RFA Tutors ( ), and the Forest Course were invaluable.

Most importantly, I want to thank the Lord God. His grace, strength, favour and faithfulness have carried me through every stage of this journey. Without God, none of this would have been possible. To Him be all the glory. 🙏🏾

And so, with immense gratitude and a very full heart, I can finally say:

Just finished a run of night shifts 🌙

Surprisingly… these ones were actually okay. Not run off my feet, but still plenty going on — from an emergency gynaecological surgical evacuation to being part of an emergency caesarean section. Nights like this remind me how important it is to stay calm, focused and level-headed when things suddenly escalate.

Also… can we please talk about the need for some sort of gynae bum bag? 😅 When you’re called to review a patient in an area that doesn’t usually deal with gynaecology, you spend half the time hunting for a speculum, swabs, or anything remotely useful. A portable stash of essentials might genuinely be the solution.

Obstetrics and gynaecology is one of the most rewarding jobs — being there in urgent moments and helping patients when they really need it. But nights can also be physically and mentally taxing. So after a stretch of nights, the best feeling is knowing it’s time to rest, reset, and recover.

For now… signing off and looking forward to some sleep. 💤

💕 Some feedback stays with you.

This card reminded me why representation in maternity care truly matters. In the UK, Black women remain significantly more likely to die in pregnancy or childbirth than their white counterparts — a disparity repeatedly highlighted in national reports and confidential enquiries. Behind every statistic is a woman, a family, a story.

Being told that my presence as a Black doctor made someone feel safer, more heard, and more reassured is both deeply humbling and sobering. Representation alone does not fix systemic inequity — but it can help build trust, improve communication, and make patients feel seen at some of their most vulnerable moments.

We still have work to do. Safer maternity care must mean safer care for all women.

MRCOG Part 2 – PASSED. ✨

What a journey this has been. It stretched me, challenged me, humbled me… and at times completely exhausted me. But it’s done. And I am so incredibly relieved and grateful to say I passed.

First and foremost, I give thanks to God. For strength on the days I felt overwhelmed, for peace in the moments of anxiety, and for carrying me through a season that truly tested me.

This achievement is not mine alone. To my husband — thank you for holding everything together when revision took over our lives. To my family and friends — thank you for the prayers, encouragement, pep talks, childcare help, coffee deliveries and constant belief in me even when I doubted myself. Your unwavering support carried me through.

One more step to go before becoming a full Member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists — but today, I’m allowing myself to breathe and be proud of how far I’ve come.

Hard… but done. 🙏🏾✨

🩺✨ Hysteroscopy: a little camera with a big job

This post breaks down what a hysteroscopy is and why someone might need one — because womb care shouldn’t feel mysterious or scary 💛

I’ve actually had a hysteroscopy myself to investigate a possible submucosal fibroid, which was then resected during a later procedure. Yes… doctors get procedures too 👩🏾‍⚕️😅 We’ll discuss that another time.

This is part of a series, so next up we’ll be talking honestly and sensitively about:
➡️ pain relief options
➡️ possible complications

I understand that hysteroscopy can be triggering for some people and upsetting, especially if you’ve had a negative experience. I hope to open up the space to safely discuss our experiences and take some learning forward to improve care for all.

Furthermore, I’ll be showing and explaining a device used to resect some fibroids in an upcoming post 👀🔧

So keep your eyes peeled and stay tuned…

Save, share, and send this to someone who’s been told they “might need a hysteroscopy” 💬✨

🩸✨ I spotted (sorry not sorry) in a Scottish library toilet… FREE period products. No questions. No shame. Just dignity. ✨🩸

This is what it looks like when a country says: periods are normal, and no one should have to struggle because of them.

🌍 Period poverty is real — many people miss school, work, and daily activities because they can’t afford pads or tampons.
🏴 Scotland changed the game.

In 2020, Scotland became the FIRST country in the world to pass legislation ensuring free access to period products for anyone who needs them.
📜 The Period Products (Free Provision) (Scotland) Act 2021 was passed unanimously
🚻 And from August 2022, councils and public places (like libraries, schools & universities) were legally required to provide them — for free, forever.

No means testing.
No embarrassment.
Just equity, dignity, and basic healthcare 💪🏽

👏🏽 This is what progressive public health policy looks like.
✨ The rest of the world — take notes.
