MND Scotland

MND Scotland We are here to make time count for people living with motor neuron disease (MND) in Scotland.

We deliver a number of vital services for people affected by Motor Neurone Disease in Scotland, including: Grants, Counselling, Benefits Advice and Advocacy. We also invest millions of pounds into ground-breaking MND research in Scotland and across the UK. As a member of the International Alliance of ALS/MND Associations we share best practice across the global MND community, learning from other n

ations and sharing the ways we are innovating here in Scotland. We campaign and raise awareness to help improve the lives of people affected by MND, and to provide hope for a world without MND. Please get in touch with our fundraising team if you need any support with your event - [email protected].

“This was for my dad, and for every family going through the same thing.” https://bit.ly/4nTstau

Philip Moir, a 36-year-old firefighter from Greenock, recently completed Ben Nevis with eight other firefighters, all from different stations 🚒 They climbed the 4,413 ft mountain wearing full fire gear and have successfully raised over £7,500 for MND Scotland 💙

Philip and the team took on the challenge in honour of Philip’s father, Peter Moir, who was diagnosed with MND in March 2024. He said, “Our family received so much support from MND Scotland, MND nurses, and MND specialists. After he was diagnosed, time just went by so quickly.”

To prepare for their challenge, Philip and the team regularly went to the gym and participated in multiple Monroe climbs across Scotland ⛰️ Philip said, “The kit itself weighs around 14kg, and with added accessories or attachments, the total can be anything up to about 18kg. We are very grateful to the team at Oban Training Centre for generously donating the kits for this challenge.”

We would like to thank Philip for sharing his story, and thank the team (William, David, Jordan, George, Cassian, Craig, Marc, and Jamie) for completing such an incredible challenge! Thanks also goes to the wonderful group of volunteers who helped out on the day, and to everyone who donated 💙

Today we are sharing the story about four friends from Cupar, Fife, who are preparing to take on The Rat Run challenge this September for MND Scotland 💙

The Rat Run is one of the biggest charity drives from the UK to Spain 🚗 taking place over five days in the ultimate driving experience. All participants have a maximum limit of £600 to purchase a car. Teams can make fit-for-purpose alterations, ensuring they do not exceed the set limit when purchasing a car. The Rat Race route spans from 🗺️ Dover to Rouen, Bordeaux to Zaragoza, and concludes in Benidorm 📍

Garry, Bryan, Ewan, and eighteen-year-old Alfie will travel over 1,700 miles by car from Cupar to Spain, using a vehicle they purchased for just £225.

Along the way, teams will complete daily challenges and take part in best dressed car, best fancy-dress costume, and best team player.

All of the work has been carried out by the team themselves, with significant support from local businesses.

We would like to thank Yeti Racing for their support, and wishe them the very best of luck in their upcoming challenge!
