Our response supports strengthening verification that drivers meet the existing legal vision standards for driving, through a clinically appropriate, proportionate and accessible approach delivered by regulated eye care professionals.

Thank you to members and sector colleagues who contributed to the development of the response.

Community optometry is already delivering high-quality, accessible eye care across Scotland. With the right support, it can do even more.

Optometry Scotland’s manifesto sets out a clear priority: enable community optometry to play a fuller role in delivering NHS care. That means expanding services, making better use of existing clinical skills, and ensuring funding reflects the care being provided.

Patients should be able to access the right care, in the right place, at the right time. By strengthening community-based services, we can improve access, reduce pressure on hospital eye services, and support a more sustainable NHS.
