I’m a woman who feels deeply and thinks deeply. And I know I’m not the only one.

That’s who I seem to attract into The Joy Academy too. The feelers. The deep thinkers. The people who look at the world and ache sometimes.

The CEOs and HR leaders who book Joyworks! experiences and programmes are often those same heart-centred people too.

The ones who want more bring more humanity, connection, love and care into the spaces they lead.

The people who can feel overwhelming gratitude and overwhelming heartbreak in the very same day.

Yesterday, I saw a homeless man lying on the street.

His hand was injured with a dirty bandage. His bank card, his coins, ci******es and lighter were scattered all over the pavement in front of him along with his sleeping bag and a poly bag with clothes and a can of Diet Coke.

While people just walked past him.

His head dropped in shame.

In fact, they walked around him. As he was in the middle of the street.

I couldn’t believe the level of not caring.

He was just out of hospital.

He broke his heart and asked me the day, then the month.

He told me his son had died four or six weeks ago. He told me he didn’t want to be here anymore.

He wanted to end it.

What was the point?

And looking around at everyone, just passing him by.

What really is the point?

A grown man in tears, head bowed on a West End street.

Every quick glance, not meeting him in the eye, then move on showed it.

He didn’t matter.

But it mattered to me.

It mattered to me when my mum thought she didn’t matter.

It mattered to me then, and it matters to me now.

It always matters to me.

That’s the thing about feeling deeply and thinking deeply.

It’s beautiful, but it can also take a toll on the heart.

We have to put our own oxygen mask on first.

Because if I’m honest, when he spoke about feeling hopeless, I recognised parts of myself in his words.

The thoughts he had, the “what’s the point?” thoughts, I’ve had them too.

Sometimes, I can feel just as lonely as that man.

And reflecting so much on it over these last two days, that’s why it hit me so hard.

It felt like he was speaking the words sitting in so many of our hearts right now.

What’s the point when there’s so much dehumanisation?

I think deep down I’m aching for a different kind of world.

A world where we greet each other the way they did at the ashram I once lived in, with a hand on the heart and a gentle nod.

A reminder that the person standing in front of you is worthy of dignity and respect.

I see the god in you. You see the god in me.

A world where we really look into each other’s eyes again.

A world where we know each other’s names, like in the song from Cheers.

A world where we shout a bit more about joy. Where we shout about the good in each other. Where we shout about how beautiful it is when the birds sing. Where we stop long enough to hear them.

A world where we take responsibility for our neighbours. Whether they’re our neighbours next door or sleeping on the street.

A world where we remember how lucky we are to be here at all.

How much the world needs our light.

How much we all need each other.

A world where everyone matters.

I wanted that different world when I started Joyworks! 18 years ago.

To help people laugh and remember each other again.

I didn’t know it at the time, but it was to help me remember who I was again.

Why Your State Shapes Everything😮

Why is it the best ideas happen in the shower?

You cry uncontrollably for weeks when your cat dies…
but when you lose someone dear,
you make a list of things to get done and tick them off one by one.

Why do the best opportunities show up when you’re rested and feeling thankful?

And why, when something goes wrong and you talk about it non-stop,
does a whole domino trail of “you’ll never believe what happened to me now” follow?😮

Because of your state.

The state you’re in shapes what you notice, how you respond, and what’s available to you.

We can’t always choose our first reaction.

But we can learn ways to influence our state more often.

I lived in anger, resentment and depression for most of my young adult life.

✨ When we’re calmer, more present and more connected to ourselves, we’re far more likely to notice joy, opportunities and possibilities that were there all along.

Yes, curve balls happen to all of us but when we get better at feeling it all, allowing more joy and calm in, we can deal with them better.

Because your capacity to feel all your emotions is your capacity for joy.

Truth.

That’s what The Joy Academy Membership is all about.

It’s for you if you are overcoming illness, burnout, or big life transitions and chapters in your life.

It’s for you if you’re ready to drop the mask, reset your nervous system, and step into life in a lighter, brighter way and feel more you again.

It’s not about fixing you!

You aren’t broken and neither was I.

It’s about creating safe, creative spaces where you can play, connect, laugh, learn neuroscience-backed tools and feel inspired enough, with a community that gets you, to actually use them to have better days.

It’s about allowing all the wellness in.

✨ There is another way to live and lead and joy is a powerful catalyst for it.

Let’s create joy for change together! I’d love to hear from you.

P.S. Your first week in The Joy Academy is free. DM me for the Zoom link. We are meeting at 7pm BST this Thursday.

Because it’s not what you do. It’s the state you’re in when you do it that changes everything.

P.S. And PLEASE let’s let ourselves off the hook when big things happen to us. The cruelty of doing that to ourselves when we are doing it tough.

We would never do that to a friend. Right? 🤗🤗

A day set up to address the no.1 health disease: depression.

(Yes, I thought it was loneliness too – but both go hand in hand.)

Yesterday was Global Wellbeing Day💜

And a mission that Joyworks has been on since 2008.

😮Over 280 million people worldwide are estimated to be living with depression, making it a leading cause of disability globally.

Women and young people are particularly vulnerable, with women experiencing depression at a rate 50% higher than men.
🥲

In the UK, 1 in 6 adults experience common mental health problems weekly, and young adults aged 16-29 are most likely to report experiencing depression

Approximately one in four people in Scotland will face a mental health problem during their lifetime.

We all need to know that we are all in this together, that we are walking each other home, that joy is a profound catalyst for change – and there’s a myriad of ways to access it, honed in the 360 Joyworks Method.

So let this be a wee reminder

🌳Reconnect with Nature – walk gently, live consciously.

💕Reconnect with Self – honour your inner needs.

🤗Reconnect with Family & Friends – unplug to truly connect.

❤️Reconnect with Community – build belonging and purpose.

Reconnect with Longevity – nurture your body, mind, and spirit. 🌿

Thomas Merton’s quote is always alive in the beautiful peeps I get to work with – for when we have the courage to be playful, connect and drop the mask, this happens:

“Then it was as if I suddenly saw the secret beauty of their hearts, the depths of their hearts where neither sin nor desire nor self-knowledge can reach, the core of their reality, the person that each one is in God's eyes. If only they could see themselves as they really are. If only we could see each other that way all the time, there would be no more war, no more hatred, no more cruelty, no more greed... I suppose the big problem would be that we would fall down and worship each other.”

That line speaks so to me “I suppose the big problem would be that we would fall down and worship each other.”

And so we do. 💕💪

To all my wonderful clients and organisations that I get to work with – this is what we do for one another always !!! 🙌

And I’m forever grateful!

THANK YOU !!🙏

Wishing you a wonderful week reach out for help if you need it we are all in this together .

Much love Sharon ###

I Was Told Recovery Was Unlikely. Here’s What Happened Next.

Infact my doctor told me to medically retire!

An inspirational lady from Utah recently joined us on The Joy Academy after watching this interview, so it reminded me to share it 💜👏

In this podcast I share my own journey through Long Covid and the science-backed tools that helped me rebuild my life after years of illness.

But it’s not just my story.

Over the last seven years I’ve had the absolute privilege of working with hundreds of people navigating Long Covid, chronic illness, stress, anxiety and burnout. I’ve seen people go from surviving to thriving, from isolation to connection and from feeling stuck to allowing way more joy in their life again.

If you’re looking for hope, practical tools and a few laughs along the way, this might be just what you need today.

P.s Correction Joyworks isn’t a wellness centre🤣 We go to where you are 💜🎉

Or come to us online on a Thursday - your first week is free we want to make sure our wee community is just what you need to feel lighter, brighter and more you💜

Love to hear your take-aways!

Wishing you a gorgeous weekend.

Much love Sharon ###
