Families should have access to practical, compassionate support that strengthens relationships and helps children and young people thrive. 💝 That is why, alongside training Practitioners and supporting services to deliver Mellow programmes, we also provide access to programmes directly to families across Scotland.

Our Direct Delivery work brings Mellow programmes into local communities, working closely with local authorities, health services, education teams, and third-sector organisations. Together, we can respond to local needs and help families access relationship-based support at the right time.

Our experienced Practitioners currently deliver a range of programmes, and their work is rooted in the same principles that underpin everything we do: relationships, trust, respect, and creating space for reflection, learning and growth. 🔍

We currently deliver programmes directly with families across Edinburgh, Glasgow, Stirling, Falkirk, Clackmannanshire, Fife, and West Lothian. 📩 If your organisation is interested in working with Mellow Parenting to bring relationship-based support to families in your community, we'd love to hear from you. We delivered Mellow Growing Together training this October for a group of Senior Early Years Officers from Scottish Borders Council. 💜

The training will help build local capacity to offer the programme to local families with children aged 0–5, increasing access to Mellow Growing Together groups and one-to-one interventions. 🫂

The training was commissioned by the NHS Public Services Delivery Scotland Parenting Team as part of a partnership to respond to an identified need across the Scottish Borders.

This will enable parents and caregivers to access support to build and strengthen their relationships with their children.👥

Mellow Parenting looks forward to seeing the positive impact of this work, helping more parents and caregivers access support in their local communities and giving children the best possible foundations for healthy development.

“Thank you to everyone involved for your enthusiasm, openness, and commitment to supporting children, parents, and families across the Scottish Borders. We look forward to seeing the positive impact this work will have within your local communities.”

Stewart McLean Trainer and Mellow Parenting National Development Officer

Delivering a Mellow programme is meaningful work, but it can also bring challenges. That's why our support for Practitioners continues beyond the initial training. 👀

Reflective Coaching gives trained Mellow Practitioners a dedicated space to step back from their group or one-to-one delivery, reflect on what is going well, explore challenges, ask questions, and think about their practice. 💡 It is also an essential part of the journey towards Accreditation.

Alongside Reflective Coaching, Practitioners receive Evaluation Support to help understand the impact of their intervention. 📊 Mellow collects feedback from participants before and after the programme, alongside Practitioner feedback, and provides an evaluation report at the end.

Accreditation brings these elements together, helping Practitioners deliver Mellow interventions to the highest standards while keeping their skills connected to current Mellow practice. 🌟 Accreditation also gives access to exclusive events, benefits, and discounts.

We believe supporting the workforce is a fundamental part of supporting families. Having space to reflect, learn, and receive support helps Practitioners continue to develop their practice and feel confident in the work they do.

What happens when we focus on strengths? 💪 At Mellow, strengths-based practice is central to how we work with families, children, and young people.

Our programmes use strengths-based video feedback to help parents and carers recognise positive moments in their interactions with their children and young people. 🌱 Practitioners are supported to notice these moments too, helping families build on what they are already doing well.

It means recognising the strengths that are already there, even when things feel difficult. It means creating opportunities for people to notice what is working, build on their successes, and develop confidence in their own ability to make change.

Sometimes, a small moment can give someone hope or motivation. It can become a starting point for something bigger. 💗 Recognising these strengths can help people see possibilities where they may previously have only seen challenges.

This year's World Mental Health Day theme is ‘lived experiences heard: real voices, real change.’

And listening to the experiences of parents, children, and young people is central to how we work at Mellow. 🫶 We recognise that every family is different, and that meaningful change happens when people feel safe, respected, and able to have a voice in their own lives.

Mental health is closely connected to relationships and the environments around us. Feeling understood by a trusted adult, having space to express how we feel, and knowing that someone is willing to listen are all fundamental parts of wellbeing.

This weekend, we're reflecting on the importance of listening to lived experience and making sure those voices have a meaningful place in shaping the support that people receive.

Because all caregivers, children, and young people should have a voice in the support that affects their lives. 🫂

Did you know October is Walk to School Month? 📚And walking to school can be about much more than getting from A to B. For children and families, it can create time to talk, notice what's happening around you, and start the day together.

At Mellow, we know that everyday moments can create opportunities for connection. 🫂 Responsive relationships are built through noticing, listening and being alongside each other, and these small moments can make a meaningful difference to how children feel and how families connect.

For families who can, why not try walking or wheeling part of your school journey this month? 🚶 You might be surprised to see where the conversation takes you!

Recently, Raq and Stewart, CEO and National Development Officer at Mellow, had the privilege of attending Compassionate Leadership Training, delivered by Alex from Epione Training & Consultancy, alongside our partners involved in the Govan Demonstration of Change (DoC) project, led by Govan HELP.

Over the coming months, some of the Mellow Team will join our DoC partners to take part in enhanced trauma training.

All with the aim of ensuring that, through this partnership, we deliver the highest level of place-based, whole family support for the families living in the communities we serve.

Could Mellow Caring for Young People support you or someone you know?

Mellow Parenting is delighted to be working with SAMH’s The Nook in Glasgow to offer Mellow Caring for Young People to parents and caregivers of young people.

Adolescence can bring big changes for both young people and the people who care for them. This 12-week programme provides a supportive space to understand more about young people’s world, emotions and development, while exploring practical ways to build stronger relationships and reduce family stress.

The group also offers an opportunity to meet other parents and caregivers, share experiences, and discover that you are not alone in navigating the challenges of adolescence.

Mellow Caring for Young People is delivered through a relationship-based, strengths-focused approach, helping caregivers recognise their own strengths while developing new ways to support their young person.
