It's been a while since I spoke about skincare What I have to say, does actually work.
1. Sunscreen is now an essential part of everyone's skincare routine, even for us folks in cold, damp, and dull Scotland.
Choose a high SPF of 30 or above, make sure it filters out UVA and UVB rays as shown on the bottle.
Your sunscreen does not have to be expensive. Mine is a Morrisons own brand SPF 50+ with 5*UVA and very high USB protection and cost about £5 for 200ml.
2. Moisturiser. Most essentially, moisturisers protect the skins barrier and prevents and hydrates dry skin.
Let's break down the current moisurisers in the market today.
There are so many new ones to choose from. One's containing Vitimin C, another with Retinol, or perhaps Niacinamide or Hyaloronic acid, but what do they actually do?.
Vitimin C, helps protect the skin from many issues, including sunburn, photoaging, hyperpigmentation, wrinkles, sagging, dryness, and an uneven skin tone.
Hyaloronic acid does not sting as the name suggests. Hyaloronic acid is simply a moisurising powerhouse for your skin as each molecule can attract 1000 times its own weight in water from the environment to plump up the areas of fine lines and wrinkles on the face.
Niacinamide soothes and strengthens your skin barrier, enhancing moisture, improving hydration, reducing oiliness and signs of ageing, diminishing enlarged pores, promoting more even skin tones, as well as protecting sensitive skin from environmental damage.
Retinol increases skin cell production (proliferation). It helps unclog pores. Retinol also exfoliates your skin and increases collagen production, which can reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, giving your skin a fresher, plump appearance. However, Retinol can cause irritation to some people, so use sparingly and at night for a while until you know its suitable for you.
