Awesome Hugs Beauty and Wellness Therapy CREATING A BETTER WORLD, ONE HUG AT A TIME! By Tina ·FRIDAY, 11 MAY 2018·

ents not only the beauty and holistic treatments but most of all the time and space they truly needed for themselves just because ….we all deserve it. You learn quite a lot when you’re around people who are faced with life’s questions and decisions. I learnt how resilient we are as a human being, most of all I learnt a lot about yourself. They shared so many stories about the unfulfilled dreams, regrets and struggles as well as all the beautiful life stories. It certainly made me questioned about all the things I want to experience and still to achieve. So the last 3 years I have concentrated on focusing what I wanted to contribute to this world. The name is inspired by the way I am with everyone....always looking for an opportunity to give an awesome hug or two (making up for lost hugs from my childhood, I think). It brightens my day and I’m sure it doesn’t go amiss with the people receiving it. Things just feel better even just for a little while when you truly hugging someone and of course receiving them. The Dalai Lama said, ‘world peace must develop from inner peace’. I certainly believe that. So I’m spreading a bit of world peace one hug at a time. I also manufacture my own Natural and Organic Skincare products which came out from trying to find solutions to my own allergy-prone skin condition. They are all high quality, ethically sourced ingredients. I use these products in all the treatments I offer. The range is available for my current clients and the general public. I am always looking for ways to improve my life and hopefully everyone I come into contact with so I strive to live as natural as possible and be conscious of the impact I have on the environment. This will be an ongoing challenge for all of us that hopefully, we will succeed in the new future. Thank you for taking the time to read my story. I hope I get a chance to share a hug or two with you and provide you with the much needed time and space that you deserve. Have an awesome day x

Some of my favourite things I never get fed up of hearing at the end of a treatment are…

“Just leave me here, I’ve melted into the bed.” 😂

“I forgot where I was until I opened my eyes.”

Or the one that always makes me chuckle: “That was the shortest two hours of my life.”

But honestly? The bit I love most happens before that… during the session.

It’s the big sigh.

The little snort.

The snoring.

That moment your whole body seems to finally give in and say: “Right… I’m safe enough to switch off now.”

And nearly every time, you wake up and apologise. “I’m so sorry, I fell asleep!”

Or “sorry, I got a bit emotional.”

Then comes… “I didn’t realise I needed that.”

And my favourite of all… “my head feels empty.”

And I always say no sorry here… you honour me with all of it 🫶🏽🥺

When you fall asleep on my table, your body has switched off fight or flight and dropped into rest and restore. That’s not you being rude, that’s you being healed. Your body can’t repair itself while it’s braced for danger. It needs to feel safe first.

And when it does, you’re in a completely different frequency. The one where you feel good, where things flow, where good things have room to come in.

Some of the women who come to me haven’t properly rested in years.

So when someone starts snoring in my company… that’s just gold dust that I wish I could bottle 😂

It tells me you’ve let go enough to rest, and that’s honestly one of the joys of what I do. Not just giving a treatment, but holding a space where someone can finally exhale in that relief I’m home way that you’ve probably not done for a while.

If you’ve been on my table, you’ll know exactly what I mean.

And if you haven’t… when was the last time your body got to feel that? 🌻

My WHY…

I think my reason for doing what I do started long before I became a therapist.

Growing up, I was passed around. Labelled the “problem child.” I felt alone… broken… I didn’t really have someone who was genuinely interested in how I was feeling, or who would simply hold me and make things feel a little better in that moment.

That kind of care you imagine a mother giving her child.

So I decided I’d be that person for somebody else instead. That’s always been my motto… if I can’t find it, I’ll create it!

Before becoming a therapist, I considered going into nursing because I thought, maybe that’s how I can care for people. Instead, I found my way into complementary therapy and was given the opportunity to work at the wellbeing centre at the Beatson Cancer Hospital.

There, I learned what caring for someone really means.

The treatments might have been facials, massage, complementary therapies or energy healing. But more than anything, I got to be with them. Not fixing them, just being with them. I could hug them, listen to them, laugh with them, cry with them, hold their hand or simply sit quietly beside them.

We had something incredibly precious there:

Time.

Time to give a treatment, but also time to see the person beneath everything they were going through.

I looked after people at all different stages of cancer, including those approaching the end of their lives. Being trusted with people’s hardest moments is still the privilege of my life.

And sometimes, all I could give them was a hug.

That kind of hug where, for those few seconds, nothing else exists. No illness, no fear, no roles and no fixing. Just two human beings holding each other with love.

That’s where Awesome Hugs came from.

My hugs became well known because they were never just polite hugs. They meant something to me.

And I think that’s still at the heart of everything I do today.

Life can make us forget how wonderful, beautiful and incredible we are. We get caught up in illness, stress, responsibilities, grief and looking after everyone else.

So many come to me, needing that space to come back to themselves. To soften, breathe and feel safe enough to stop for a while.

So somewhere along the way, my why became something bigger. Now, when someone sits in front of me, I don’t just see what they’re carrying. I see who they are underneath it… MAGNIFICENT, BEAUTIFUL, WHOLE … often before they can see it themselves. And I get to reflect that back to them until they believe it too. …To remember that they are worthy of care, worthy of love, even on the days when they don’t feel it.

I feel incredibly honoured to care for the people who trust me with that.

I think, in truth, that has always been my why: to give somebody the kind of care I know can mean everything when you need it most, and to help them reconnect with the incredible person they already are. 🌻

Do you ever wash your face and think, “Ooh, it feels really clean”… only to realise five minutes later it also feels tight, dry and desperate for moisturiser? 🙈

That was me.

I loved that fresh, properly clean feeling, but my skin definitely did not love what came with it.

So I made my own Foaming Face Wash 🌿

It’s pH 5–5.5, close to the skin’s naturally acidic pH, with aloe vera, chicory root inulin and a carefully chosen blend of essential oils.

And honestly, I use this stuff for everything 😂 Face, body, even my hair. It’s one of those products that always ends up in my suitcase too.

Because somewhere along the way we were taught that skin has to feel “squeaky clean” for a cleanser to be working.

It really doesn’t.

Clean skin shouldn’t have to feel stripped, tight or uncomfortable. 🤍

If your skin is crying out for moisturiser the second you’ve washed it, maybe have a wee look at what you’re cleansing it with.

Fancy trying mine?🤗

When pain seems to have no clear physical cause… when your body’s sending signals doctors can’t quite explain… when the aching persists even though nothing structurally ‘wrong’ is showing up… that’s when your beliefs and perception become the real story.

I’ve noticed something after 18 years and thousands of treatments: your body doesn’t randomly choose where to hurt.

It’s not breaking down for no reason. It’s responding to something much more subtle and, honestly, more hopeful than that.

It’s responding to how you perceive your circumstances. And your perceptions come from your beliefs.

That old belief that “I have to handle everything alone” creates the perception that you’re drowning. That belief that “I’m not smart enough” creates the perception that you can’t trust yourself. That belief that “I can’t speak up” creates the perception that you’re voiceless.

And here’s the thing: you might not be able to change what’s happening around you. But you can change the belief underneath. And when that belief shifts, the perception shifts. And when the perception shifts, your body follows.

So here’s what I’ve learned.

Sore shoulders? There’s likely an old belief that you have to carry everything, that you’re responsible for it all. But what if you could shift that belief? What if it became: “I’m supported, I can delegate, I can ask for help”? Watch how your shoulders soften.

Neck tension? Your body might be reflecting a belief that “I’m not smart enough” or “I can’t set boundaries.” Criticism that landed and became a story you believed. But what if you reprogrammed that to: “I trust my judgment, I have a right to say no”? Your neck often releases when the belief does.

That knot in your gut? Your body can’t digest what you believe is unsafe to take in. An emotion you’ve been told isn’t okay. A truth you’ve been taught to swallow. But what if you could shift the belief that created that fear? What if you believed: “It’s safe for me to feel, to process, to digest what’s happening”?

Lower back aching? Often it’s reflecting a belief that you’re unsupported, that you’re alone with this, that no one has your back. But what if you could reprogram that to: “I am held, I am supported, I can ask for and receive help”? Your lower back often responds when the belief changes.

Jaw clenching or headaches? Your body’s responding to a belief that “it’s not safe to speak,” that “my words don’t matter,” that “I have to stay quiet.” Your jaw locks when you believe silence is necessary. But what if you could shift that? What if you believed: “My voice matters, it’s safe to speak, I have a right to be heard”?

Here’s what’s brilliant: you might not be able to change your circumstances. But you absolutely can change the beliefs creating them. And when your beliefs shift, your nervous system reads safety differently. Your body softens. Things that were stuck start to move.

That’s not magic. That’s how we actually reprogram ourselves.

Your body is constantly listening to what you believe about the world. Not the world itself… what you believe about it. That’s where your power lives.

Body wisdom isn’t about doing more. It’s about listening first… and then identifying the old beliefs ready to be reprogrammed.

Next time you notice pain or tension, get curious. Not “what’s wrong with me?” but “what belief am I holding here? What old story is my body reflecting? What would shift if I believed something different?”

Because often, the shift your body needs isn’t a new circumstance. It’s a new belief.

Come explore what your body’s reflecting… and what beliefs might be ready to shift. I’d love to help you reprogram those old patterns, make sense of those signals, and discover the freedom that lives on the other side.

You know that feeling when your body’s tired but your brain won’t switch off? When you’ve made a hundred decisions before 9am and there’s nothing left for yourself?

That’s exactly where one of my clients was when she first came to me. High-pressure job, constantly “on,” completely disconnected from her own body.

There’s no script in what I do. Eighteen years in, having sat with thousands of clients with chronic illness, some going through life and death, their bodies going through war, and I still work the same way: I follow what the body is asking for, in the moment. Gentle touch, safety, and the kind of nervous system reset that only happens when your body finally believes it’s allowed to switch off.

That’s what the Tailored Wellness Retreat is built on. Shaped around you and nobody else. Plant powered and clinically considered. No other decision to make apart from when and how long, then you just come as you are.

If you’re running on empty and you know it, DM me and I’ll send you the booking link, or let’s just talk. 💜

I’ve been hiding something from most of you. Not a scandal, just… me.

I’ve spent so long focusing on making people feel cared for, that I forgot to properly introduce the person doing the caring. So here I am, taking up a bit of space, because I think you deserve to know who’s actually behind Awesome Hugs.

I’m Tina. I’m a holistic therapist, skincare formulator, and the founder of Awesome Hugs, based in Glasgow.

I’ve spent eighteen years working with people in treatment or recovery, first within hospital surroundings, and now continuing that same specialist care in my own practice and through Westbourne, a private GP clinic here in Glasgow. My work with Beatson Cancer Charity started at the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre, and today my products are trusted there, and used by oncology and chronic stress patients too.

My skincare didn’t start as a business idea. It started with my own skin falling apart, dry, flaky, breaking out, and a prescription cream that my gut told me wasn’t the answer. So I stripped everything back, learned everything I could about ingredients (thousands of hours of research, because it genuinely fascinates me), and built something that actually worked. For me first, then for the clients who needed it just as much.

And I never stopped there. I’m still learning, still training, still falling down research rabbit holes about how our bodies actually work, because I find it endlessly fascinating. Every course, every study, every new discovery comes straight back into the treatment room with you. When you book in with me, you’re not just getting eighteen years of experience, you’re getting whatever I’ve most recently learned too.

But if I’m honest, I can’t take all the credit for any of this. I’m spiritually led. So much of what I do comes from a place beyond just training and study, a real trust in something bigger guiding my hands and my intuition.

Every treatment I offer is intuitive. I don’t work from a script, I tune into what you actually need on the day, whether that’s massage, energy healing, a facial, or simply a bit of gentle tapping to help a racing mind settle before we do anything else. It’s probably why so many of you say the same thing to me afterwards, “you just seem to know what my body needs.” Honestly, that might be the biggest compliment I could ever receive.

And every product I make, I use myself, on my own skin, and with every client who sits in my chair.

Outside of Awesome Hugs, you’ll usually find me with my husband, who keeps me laughing, loved and grounded, out in nature (I properly mean it when I say I hug trees, especially on the days I’m not feeling my best), travelling whenever I get the chance, and leaning on my faith in God, who I believe is behind every bit of healing that happens in that treatment room, not just me.

So that’s me, properly introduced. Not the softened, smaller version I’ve probably shown you before, just the whole truth of it.

If you’re new here, welcome.

You’re in the right place.

And you, exactly as you are today, are wonderfully and beautifully made. 💛

Your skin isn’t separate from you. It’s part of you. ❤️

One of the biggest shifts I made on my own healing journey was realising my skin wasn’t broken or working against me.
It was communicating.

We treat our skin like a car that’s suddenly developed a fault for no reason. We scrub it, strip it, cover it up, fight it… without ever asking what it’s trying to tell us.
But your skin is alive.

It’s your body’s largest organ and it has incredible intelligence. Every second it’s renewing itself, regulating temperature, keeping moisture in, helping defend against bacteria and viruses, supporting your immune system, producing vitamin D from sunlight, giving you sensation and acting as a protective barrier between you and the outside world.

Its whole job is balance.

Over 18 years, and through my own skin struggles, I learned that stress isn’t just emotional. It’s physical, environmental, hormonal, nutritional… and even the products we put on our skin can add to the load.

I work with people facing some of life’s hardest challenges, burnout, cancer, chronic illness, mental and physical health struggles. And even then, the body is still fighting for you. Still trying to find its way back to balance.

Sometimes we overwhelm our skin with 10 different products morning and night, all trying to do different jobs. One might be highly acidic, another more alkaline, one stripping oils while the next is trying to replace them.

Then we wonder why our skin is confused.

My advice is often simple.
Use fewer products, but use them well. If you have 10, you don’t need all 10 every day. Rotate them. Give your skin space to do what it was designed to do. And if you’re layering everything at once, how do you even know what’s helping?

I say this as someone who loved a complicated skincare routine in her 20s and 30s. Simplicity became one of the best gifts I ever gave my skin.

Your body isn’t your enemy.
It’s an intelligent, miraculous system working around the clock to protect you, adapt and come back into balance.

Sometimes it just needs a little less interference… and a little more support. 💚

And if you genuinely love your 10 step routine?
Do it. Do it because it brings you joy, because it’s your ritual, because it’s yours. Just don’t do it because someone told you that you had to. Skincare should never be another thing on the stress list. That defeats the whole point.
