Your skin isn’t separate from you. It’s part of you. ❤️
One of the biggest shifts I made on my own healing journey was realising my skin wasn’t broken or working against me.
It was communicating.
We treat our skin like a car that’s suddenly developed a fault for no reason. We scrub it, strip it, cover it up, fight it… without ever asking what it’s trying to tell us.
But your skin is alive.
It’s your body’s largest organ and it has incredible intelligence. Every second it’s renewing itself, regulating temperature, keeping moisture in, helping defend against bacteria and viruses, supporting your immune system, producing vitamin D from sunlight, giving you sensation and acting as a protective barrier between you and the outside world.
Its whole job is balance.
Over 18 years, and through my own skin struggles, I learned that stress isn’t just emotional. It’s physical, environmental, hormonal, nutritional… and even the products we put on our skin can add to the load.
I work with people facing some of life’s hardest challenges, burnout, cancer, chronic illness, mental and physical health struggles. And even then, the body is still fighting for you. Still trying to find its way back to balance.
Sometimes we overwhelm our skin with 10 different products morning and night, all trying to do different jobs. One might be highly acidic, another more alkaline, one stripping oils while the next is trying to replace them.
Then we wonder why our skin is confused.
My advice is often simple.
Use fewer products, but use them well. If you have 10, you don’t need all 10 every day. Rotate them. Give your skin space to do what it was designed to do. And if you’re layering everything at once, how do you even know what’s helping?
I say this as someone who loved a complicated skincare routine in her 20s and 30s. Simplicity became one of the best gifts I ever gave my skin.
Your body isn’t your enemy.
It’s an intelligent, miraculous system working around the clock to protect you, adapt and come back into balance.
Sometimes it just needs a little less interference… and a little more support. 💚
And if you genuinely love your 10 step routine?
Do it. Do it because it brings you joy, because it’s your ritual, because it’s yours. Just don’t do it because someone told you that you had to. Skincare should never be another thing on the stress list. That defeats the whole point.
