We’d like to give a special shout out to Sarah. She took on a skydive to fundraise for us in May and raised an amazing £1,190 🪂

She told us: "I celebrated my 30th year anniversary as a type 1 diabetic in April and wanted to do something to mark the occasion, raise awareness and also raise as much money as I could for a charity very close to my heart."

This will be going to help those living with or at risk of diabetes. Thank you, Sarah 💙

We'd like to say a massive thank you to our Glasgow Kiltwalkers! 🚶‍♀️

Over the two days, 25-26 April, an incredible 146 of you took to the streets and trails of Glasgow, West Dunbartonshire and Balloch and have raised an amazing £29,278.28 🙌

It was lovely chatting to so many of you at the finish line and hearing more about your stories.

Feeling inspired? If you'd like to join and get involved in a Kiltwalk, there are a few more dates this year:

Dundee – Sunday 17 August
Edinburgh – Sunday 14 September

We'd like to wish everyone doing the Aberdeen Kiltwalk tomorrow good luck! 👟

We heard from Ross, who's taking on all four Kiltwalks – Glasgow, Aberdeen, Dundee (16 Aug) and Edinburgh (13 Sept). That's around 80 miles in total 👏

"I've chosen to raise money for Diabetes UK this year as their research affects me personally as a type 2 diabetic since 2023, with other close family also affected by both type 1 and type 2 diabetes.

"In April 2025 I started a path to achieve 'type 2 remission' (when your blood sugar levels return to a safe, non-diabetes level long-term, without the need for glucose-lowering medication) through the counterweight plus scheme with NHS Fife and by increasing my physical activity and fitness by getting out walking regularly. In October 2025 I was confirmed to have achieved the target HbA1c levels, meaning my diabetes was in remission.

"This achievement would not be possible without the research and guidance provided by diabetes charities worldwide, and as such I'd like to raise money to give back and support this research while motivating myself to continue to work at maintaining my remission through a healthy and active lifestyle.”

Thank you Ross, and everyone taking on the Kiltwalks for Diabetes UK 💙

“I love volunteering for Diabetes UK”

Fiona has been volunteering with us for 15 years, helping build a supportive community for people living with type 1 diabetes.

“I first started helping with the weekenders in 2012 and loved being part of such a caring and supportive community.

“I’ve lived with type 1 for 26 years – it’s not been easy, but knowing others who understand really helps.

“I didn’t know anyone else with type 1 until I was in my 20s, and I realised how much I’d missed out on. That’s why I wanted to make sure the group is there to support families.

“I love organising events and helping people feel less alone.”

And Fiona has a message for anyone thinking of getting involved… “We do need help – we’re always looking for people to come on board and support us!”

Thank you Fiona for all you’ve done the past 15 years 💙

From building confidence to running a half marathon...

Ava is one of our newer volunteers who’s been with us for just one month and already making an impact.

“I chose to volunteer with Diabetes UK to help break stigma, inspire young people with type 1, and be part of this incredible community.

“Like many people with type 1, I’ve struggled with confidence – but over the past year, that’s completely changed. I’ve found real happiness in advocating for better awareness.

“I even ran a half marathon to and raised £1,365 for research in type 1 diabetes.

“Being part of this community has made me feel less alone. I can educate others, connect with people who understand, and raise awareness of the 4Ts – thirsty, tiredness, thinner, toilet.

“It’s been life-changing, and I’m so excited to keep doing more for the type 1 community.”

Thank you Ava and welcome to 👏

Alistair has recently started volunteering as a Young Leader with Together Type 1.

“I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 2015, and over the past few months I’ve had the chance to volunteer, so far, I’ve met so many inspiring and amazing people.

“The onboarding process was really straightforward, and every interaction was so positive.

“My first in person event was in Edinburgh, seeing young people bond and form connections over having type 1 diabetes was heartwarming to say the least.

“Since then, I’ve been to more events that have really helped build my confidence. I’ve also worked with other Young Leaders to create a webinar for education staff, sharing our lived experience. It’s helped me develop my teamwork and public speaking skills – things I wouldn’t usually feel comfortable with.

“Everyone involved is so friendly and supportive, they’ve inspired me to keep stepping out of my comfort zone and trying new things.”

Thanks for sharing, Alistair and welcome to the TT1 team! 💙

“Type 1 diabetes is a huge part of our family’s life, and I know first-hand how overwhelming, isolating and relentless it can feel – especially for parents supporting a child.”

Wendy has been volunteering with us for 11 months and has proudly offered to share her experiences with us. 💙

“When my own child was diagnosed, I quickly realised how much support and shared experience matters. Volunteering felt like a way to give something back and help other families feel less alone.

“What I enjoy most is being part of something that connects people, raises awareness and gives families a voice.

“Whether it’s sharing lived experience, talking about diabetes tech, or simply helping someone feel seen and heard – it means a lot to know it can make even a small difference.

“For me, volunteering is about community, hope, and making life with type 1 diabetes a little less lonely.”
