🪬 MINIMALLY INVASIVE MAXIMUM IMPACT 🪬

This lovely patient travelled from another city to visit me (which will never stop feeling like a pinch me moment) because he wanted a smile he felt more confident in.

The brief: fresher, brighter and still completely him.

THIS is exactly the kind of treatment I love.

When I looked at this case, I knew I could create a huge improvement without doing a huge amount of dentistry. For a young patient especially, preserving healthy tooth structure is always my priority.

Treatment included:
• Hygiene, air polish & in chair whitening
• At home whitening with 16% CP to brighten and lift the result
• Minimal composite bonding to refine shape and symmetry

The most challenging part? A single central incisor composite bond. Anyone who does composites knows matching a single front tooth naturally is no easy task. It takes patience, layering and attention to detail to make it disappear into the smile.

I learnt a huge amount about shade matching and blending composite with .tariq.bashir .dental.study.club. I will always be amazed at how well Venus Pearl and Art composite blends when layered so well!

No unnecessary drilling. No aggressive treatment. Just a fresh, youthful result that still looks like his smile.. only better.

Because sometimes, less really is more.

The classic minimally invasive approach (sneak peek, full case to come!)

This patient could have skipped the alignment phase and gone straight to bonding… but it would have meant compromises:
• More tooth reduction in some areas
• Bulkier or thinner bonding in others
• Unnatural results
• A less predictable long-term outcome

Instead, we chose patience. We aligned first and it made all the difference!

Why alignment matters:
– Creates ideal spacing for natural-looking bonding
– Preserves healthy tooth structure (less drilling)
– Improves gum health and makes teeth easier to clean
– Leads to stronger, longer-lasting results

♥️ SAME SMILE, ONLY ELEVATED ♥️

This wonderful lady came to me feeling unhappy with her smile, but her brief was simple and clear. She wanted to look good, but not “done”.

From the very beginning, this case was about respect. Respecting what was already there, the shape, the proportions, the character of her smile. These are the things people recognise, the things they subconsciously connect with. Changing too much can feel unfamiliar, so together we planned every detail carefully to enhance, not replace.

I spent time listening, discussing, and visualising the end result. Consent wasn’t a formality, it was a process. Trials and planning allowed us to move forward with clarity and confidence.

A little whitening and eight units later, the result is a smile that feels fresher, brighter, and more refined, but still completely her. The kind of result where people notice something looks amazing, but cannot quite put their finger on what has changed.

This was an emotional journey and one I feel incredibly grateful to have been part of. Moments like this are why I love what I do.

For patients, this is a reminder that great dentistry is not about dramatic change. It is about thoughtful planning, careful listening, and subtle refinement.

People ask me often my planning stages for these cases. It’s never linear. Slow down, study your patient, understand their expectations, and never underestimate the value of planning, communication, and trial stages. The best results often come from restraint.

Replacement dentistry will always be one of my favourite things to do. Keeping it natural, keeping it timeless, and adding that quiet confidence that makes someone feel like the best version of themselves.

♟️Finalist – Young Dentist of the Year 2026 ♟️

After being fortunate enough to be a finalist last year, I’m incredibly grateful (and slightly in disbelief) to be shortlisted again, this time as one of only two Scottish dentists in the category. To be recognised alongside such talented clinicians is something I don’t take lightly.

Dentistry has never been just a job for me. It’s been a 10-year journey. Three degrees, countless hours of study, challenges, setbacks, and growth to get to what still feels like the very beginning. Every step has shaped the way I practise today: with intention, care, and a genuine love for what I do.

I feel very lucky that I get to show up each day and do a job I truly adore. Not a single day goes by where I take that for granted. Whether it’s helping a nervous patient feel at ease, restoring confidence through a smile, or continuing to learn and improve.. I give it everything I have.

I’ve always chosen to be the kind of dentist I would want to see myself: someone who cares deeply, who strives for excellence, and who never loses sight of the human side of what we do.

🖤 AMALGAM OUT; ADHESIVE IN 🖤

A simple case, done properly.

Step-by-step:
• Careful amalgam removal
• Caries control and cavity refinement
• Build-up of the walls to convert to a clean Class I (I generally try to do this in most cases)
• Adhesive restoration under proper isolation
• Finished and polished (with a blurry end photo, I know I know)

This is what bread and butter dentistry should look like.. controlled, predictable, and built to last.

Rubber dam isolation and moisture control aren’t optional extras. They’re the foundation of longevity in adhesive work. No contamination = better bond strength = longer-lasting restorations. Anyone who tells me otherwise I can send those papers.

For patients with old amalgams:
Modern materials allow us to restore teeth more conservatively, more aesthetically, and with better long-term outcomes when done well.

We’re all trying to be something…

Allan is not only a patient, but a dear friend of mine, and if I’m honest, treating friends always feels like a bigger responsibility. They have direct access to you, they trust you completely, and you become part of their journey in a much deeper way.

👋🏼 OVERDUE REINTRODUCTION 👋🏼

I’m Rebecca — the face behind the mask, loupes & brand.

My route into dentistry wasn’t linear… I’ve worked across front of house, nursing, hygiene therapy and dental technology before becoming a dentist and that’s shaped how I practise today. I notice the details, I value the process, and I don’t cut corners.

I work in Glasgow providing general care, with a focus on restorative and aesthetic dentistry. I’ve always been drawn to the science behind materials (slightly obsessed now) because understanding why things succeed or fail is what leads to results that actually last.

Alongside clinical work, I’m also involved in teaching and education something I’m really passionate about as I continue to develop in my career.

For me, it’s about doing things properly, keeping patients comfortable, and creating an experience that feels calm and considered not rushed or overwhelming.

I LOVE meeting new patients and finding a way to be a part of their journey at their pace.

Outside of work you’ll usually find me travelling, keeping active, or baking!

🥇 FEAR TO FEARLESS 🥇

Some smiles are about aesthetics. Some are about trust. This one was about both.

This patient walked into my surgery petrified. Years without seeing a dentist, anxiety at an all-time high, and a smile he’d learned to hide.

We didn’t start with teeth.
We started with time, listening, and understanding.

Because here’s the truth: dentistry isn’t a conveyor belt. It never should be.
Every patient has a story, and if you don’t take the time to hear it you’ll never get the result THEY truly need.

Clinically, this case wasn’t straightforward.
A complex bite. Class III relationship. Crossbite.
Not your “ideal” composite bonding case and definitely one many would shy away from without orthodontics.

But treatment isn’t about ideal scenarios.
It’s about working with the patient in front of you.

Through careful planning, communication, and trust on both sides, we:
•Stabilised and improved dental health
•Achieved healthy, balanced gums
•Designed a smile that works with his bite, not against it

And most importantly…
•Gave him his confidence back

That final smile? That’s not just composite.
That’s someone who isn’t afraid anymore.

To patients reading this - if fear has been holding you back, you’re not alone. And you can take that first step.

To clinicians - don’t turn your nose up at the “non-ideal” cases. With the right planning and mindset, you can change someone’s life without following a textbook pathway.

🔅 FULL CIRCLE MOMENT 🔅

Somewhere along the way between exams, clinics, and questioning life choices, I always had it in the back of my mind that one day I’d like to teach. Not in a “stand at the front and read off slides” kind of way… but properly share what I actually do day to day.

One of the things on my 2026 bucket list was to inspire others and teach my own content and that quietly became a reality.

I had the chance to work with a group of young dentists in the early stages of their careers who just wanted to get really good at the fundamentals. The bread and butter dentistry that we do every single day. No gimmicks, no shortcuts, just doing things properly.

Because the reality is the reason things work well in practice isn’t luck. It’s consistency. Same protocols, same standards, every patient. No straying when you’re tired, running late, or tempted to “just this once” it.

Yes, even when placing rubber dam for the 5th time that day.

For me that’s exciting! Turning science with so many variables into predictable results!

Getting to lecture then move into doing a demo on a phantom head felt surreal in the best way. Slightly nerve wracking, but mostly just really rewarding.

I’ve been lucky to have some incredible teachers over the years, and also a few who made me think “I’d probably do that differently.” Both are equally valuable!

I always said that if I ever got the opportunity to teach, I’d put 100% into it: the prep, the delivery, the content, and really try to make it worthwhile for the people giving up their time to listen to lil ole me.

This felt like a big milestone. Not in a loud, look-at-me way… but in a quiet “this is exactly where I’m meant to be heading” kind of way. HUMBLED.

Very grateful for the opportunity and very excited for what’s coming next!

❗️EMERGENCY DIGITAL SMILE TRANSFORMATION ❗️

This patient came in looking for a single tooth replacement but with a bit of planning, we were able to do so much more.

Using a 3D scan at the consultation appointment, we designed a custom-fit partial denture, completely pain-free, no impressions, no gagging, much more accurate and a little better for the environment!

We decided to:
- Replace the missing tooth
- Add additional teeth posteriorly to fill spaces
- Improve the bite with better support
- Widen the smile for a more balanced, aesthetic result

Because the patient had enough interdigitating teeth, we were able to take an accurate bite record digitally and go straight to fit, no multiple try-in stages needed.

Literally scan straight to a seamless fit!

A simple clinical photo with good natural lighting and the patients input.

The result: a natural, fuller smile delivered efficiently and comfortably.

Digital dentistry really is changing the game: faster, more predictable, and a much better patient experience.
