Chickenpox is a common and usually mild illness, especially in children 👶🦠

It causes an itchy rash of spots that turn into blisters before crusting over. You or your child may also feel unwell, have a fever or aches before the rash appears.

Most children get better at home without seeing a GP, but it’s important to keep them off nursery or school until all spots have crusted over to help stop the spread.

There is no treatment for chickenpox. But, you can get remedies from Scots Pharmacy that can help symptoms.

These include:
- paracetamol to help bring down a fever
- calamine lotion and cooling gels to ease itching.

In most children, the blisters crust up and fall off naturally within 1 to 2 weeks.

We don’t do favourite patients… but Mrs Fabiani is about as close as it gets! 🙌

A familiar face since day one, she popped in today with a brilliant little piece of local history - photos from when she used to visit this very spot long before Scots Pharmacy was here, back when it was Toska and she’d meet friends here for a coffee. ☕️📸

From coffee with friends to popping into the pharmacy all these years later - we absolutely love hearing throwback stories like this and seeing how the local community has changed over the years.

⚠️ “𝐓𝐈𝐂𝐊 𝐋𝐈𝐒𝐓” 🌿 Been out in the woods, long grass or bracken? Time for the whole-body tick check! 🔍

Ticks are tiny, but they have a knack of hiding in some very sneaky places. If you’ve been out exploring, make sure you check:

• Hairline and scalp
• Behind the ears
• Back of the neck
• Armpits
• Belly button
• Waistline
• Groin area
• Between the legs
• Behind the knees
• Between the toes

If you find a tick, it’s important to remove it as soon as possible using the correct technique.

If you’re unsure how to remove it, have concerns about a tick bite, or develop a rash or flu-like symptoms afterwards, pop into Scots Pharmacy Netherlee. Our friendly team can offer advice, assess your symptoms and help you decide if any further treatment is needed.
