🌿 Being unapologetically YOU...

I've been thinking a lot recently about what it really means to be unapologetically yourself.

And no... I don't mean being selfish, ignoring other people's feelings or insisting that your way is the only way. πŸ˜‚

For me, there's something much more mindful about it.

It's knowing your values.
Knowing what matters to you.
Knowing what you believe in.
And being able to stand by those things, even when someone else might not understand them.

Because how much energy do we waste trying to be who we think other people want us to be?

Saying yes when we really mean no.
Keeping quiet because we're worried about what people might think.
Changing our opinions to fit in.
Comparing ourselves to everyone around us.
Trying to make everyone happy...

Spoiler alert: it's impossible! πŸ˜‚

Mindfulness encourages us to notice these things.
To become more aware of why we're making certain choices.
Are we doing something because it genuinely feels right for us?
Or because we're worried about disappointing someone?
Are we living according to our own values?
Or are we constantly looking outside ourselves for approval?

Being unapologetically yourself doesn't mean you never change.

In fact, I think it's the opposite.

We grow.
We learn.
We make mistakes.
Our priorities change.
Our beliefs can evolve.

But we can still come back to that important question:
πŸ’ "Is the way I'm living actually aligned with the person I want to be?"

And if the answer is no...
Maybe it's time for a little adjustment.

You don't need everyone to understand you.
You don't need everyone to agree with you.
And you certainly don't need to apologise for being yourself when you're living with kindness, integrity and respect for others.

Be you.
The real you.
Not the version you think everyone else wants to see. πŸ’•

And honestly... isn't that a much more peaceful way to live?

πŸ‘‡ What is one value that's really important to you that you refuse to compromise on?

I'd love to hear yours.

πŸ‚ Hello, β€œBer” months! πŸ‚

And just like that...
September has arrived.... 😳

Which means we're officially entering the β€œBer” months...
September πŸ‚
October πŸŽƒ
November 🍁
December πŸŽ„

How did that happen?!

It feels like yesterday we were talking about summer arriving and now we're heading towards the final few months of the year.

There's something about September that always feels like a little reset.

New routines.
A change in the weather.
Cosy nights starting to creep in.
Maybe a few more cups of tea. β˜•πŸ˜‚

But before we get caught up thinking about everything still to do before the end of the year, here's a little reminder from me...
You don't have to rush through these final months.

There's still plenty of life to be lived between now and December.

So rather than thinking:
"Where has the year gone?"

Maybe pause and ask:
🌿 What do I want to enjoy between now and the end of it?
It doesn't have to be a huge goal.
More time with family. ❀️
A few walks somewhere beautiful. πŸ₯Ύ
Trying something new.
More laughs with friends.
A little more time for yourself.
Or perhaps simply remembering to actually notice the moments as they happen, rather than constantly looking ahead.

So, bring on the β€œBer” months!

πŸ‚ What's one thing you're looking forward to between now and the end of the year?
And please don't say Christmas yet... it's only September! πŸ˜‚πŸŽ„

β˜• Monday Mindset...It's Monday...And I'm wondering how many of us have already said:"Where did the weekend go?!" πŸ˜‚Monday...

β˜• Monday Mindset...

It's Monday...

And I'm wondering how many of us have already said:
"Where did the weekend go?!" πŸ˜‚

Monday can sometimes feel like we're expected to hit the ground running.

Emails.
Work.
Appointments.
Housework.
Messages.
That never-ending to-do list...

But maybe we don't actually need to run.
Maybe we can just... walk. πŸ˜‰
One thing at a time.
One coffee at a time. β˜•
One task at a time.
One breath at a time.

Mindfulness doesn't mean floating through Monday in a cloud of calm while everything magically gets done around you. πŸ˜‚

It's simply noticing when your mind has raced ahead and bringing yourself back to what you're actually doing right now.

So if your Monday is already feeling a bit chaotic...
Pause.
Take a breath.
And remember:
You don't have to tackle the whole week today.

You've got this. πŸ’—

And if all you've achieved so far is finding your coffee...
I'd say you're off to a good start! πŸ˜‚β˜•

πŸ‘‡ What's your Monday mood today?
🧘 Calm and organised
β˜• Powered by coffee
πŸƒ Running around like a headless chicken
πŸ˜‚ Still wondering where the weekend went

Like so many people, I've been reflecting on the passing of Dolly Parton.

What a woman.

Dolly had an incredible ability to make people smile, but behind the big personality, the music and the unmistakable sparkle was someone who seemed to understand something really important about life...

It's the people, the kindness and the moments that matter.

She worked hard.

She dreamed big.

She stayed true to herself.

She gave generously.

She made people laugh.

And she never seemed to lose sight of where she came from.

There is something very mindful about that.

In a world where we're constantly rushing towards the next thing, Dolly reminds us to appreciate the moment we're actually living.

To enjoy the laughter.

To celebrate the good days.

To be kind when we can.

To help others when we're able.

And perhaps most importantly...

To be ourselves.

Mindfulness isn't about having a perfect life or being calm all the time.

It's about noticing.

Noticing the people around us.

Noticing the little moments.

Noticing the things we have to be grateful for.

Because sometimes we're so busy chasing the next thing that we forget to appreciate what is happening right now.

So today, I'm taking a little inspiration from Dolly:

🌸 Love deeply.

πŸ’— Be kind

✨ Dream big.

😊 Have a laugh.

🌿 Appreciate the little things.

πŸ’« And never be afraid to be yourself.

What a life.
What a legacy.
What a reminder to make the most of the time we have.

What is one simple thing you're grateful for today? πŸ’—

TUESDAY THOUGHTS......

🧠 One of the biggest things I see people doing with their thoughts...
Trying to stop them.

"I just want my brain to switch off."
"Why can't I stop thinking about this?"
"I wish I could just stop having these thoughts!"
Sound familiar? πŸ˜‚

Here's the thing...
You're never going to stop having thoughts.
And you don't need to.

Your brain is designed to think.

All day long it throws things at you.
Good thoughts. Random thoughts. Worrying thoughts. Strange thoughts. Thoughts that make absolutely no sense whatsoever! πŸ˜‚

The thought itself isn't necessarily the problem.
It's what we do with it next that can get us into trouble.

You notice a thought...
"What if something goes wrong?"
And rather than simply noticing it, your brain grabs hold of it.
"Why am I thinking that?"
"But what if it actually happens?"
"What would I do?"
"Maybe I should work this out now..."
And before you know it...
πŸ’₯ One little thought has grown arms and legs and you're three hours into a full-blown Netflix series inside your own head!

This is something I talk about a lot in my work with The Awakened Mind.

We're not trying to create a mind that never thinks.

We're learning to become more aware of our thoughts and recognise when we've gone from having a thought to thinking and thinking and thinking about the thought.

And that's a big difference.

You can notice:
"I'm having the thought that something might go wrong."
Take a breath.
Notice what's happening.
And then come back to what you're actually doing.
Making dinner.
Walking the dog.
Working.
Having a conversation.
Watching TV.
Whatever is happening right now.

You don't have to answer every thought your brain throws at you.
You don't have to argue with it.
You don't have to solve it.
And sometimes you definitely don't need to ask Dr Google! πŸ˜‚

❀ Mindfulness isn't about emptying your mind.

It's about changing your relationship with what's happening in it.

Because thoughts are going to come and go.

The question is...
Do you have to jump on every single one?

I'd love to know β€” are you someone who can notice a thought and let it pass, or does your brain turn one tiny thought into a whole story? πŸ˜‚πŸ‘‡

🌿 Monday doesn't have to be a race...

Good morning. It's Monday again....

And before you've even finished your first coffee, your mind might already be thinking about everything that needs done this week.
Work. Appointments. Family. Messages. The never-ending to-do list...

But here's your Monday reminder:

You don't have to do it all at once.
Take today as it comes.
Focus on what's in front of you rather than everything that's waiting further down the road.

🌬️ Take a breath.
πŸ‘€ Notice where you are.
🧠 Notice what's going on in your mind.
❀ Then choose your next step.

Mindfulness isn't about having a perfectly calm life.
It's about learning to be present in the life you actually have.

So rather than asking yourself:
"How am I going to get everything done this week?"

Try asking:
"What is one thing I can focus on right now?"
One thing.
One moment.
One step at a time.

And if Monday has already gone a little sideways... take another breath and start again. There's no rule saying you only get one chance at a good Monday! πŸ˜‚

✨ What's your intention for this week?
Is it to slow down?
Be kinder to yourself?
Get organised?
Make more time for family?
Or simply survive Monday?! πŸ˜‚

❀️ A Day I'll Remember...

Yesterday was a pretty special day.

I had the opportunity to attend the Terumo Aortic Family Day at the factory in Inchinnan, and if I'm honest, it was an emotional one.

We had a tour of the factory and got to see how the grafts used in aortic dissection surgery are designed and made.

And seeing it all happening right in front of us really brought home just how much work, precision and care goes into something that most of us would never even think about.

One fact absolutely blew my mind...

🀯 The amount of thread used to make the grafts in one year would stretch to the moon and back 2.5 times!
Wow.

We met some of the incredible staff who work there. For them, they're doing their job every day.

But for families like ours, what they make is so much more than just a job.
Without these grafts, people like my dad may not have survived.
That thought hit me several times throughout the day.

We also had the opportunity to meet some of the amazing buddies from the Aortic Dissection Buddies group who help run the charity across the UK and Ireland. There was great food, great conversations and that lovely feeling of being surrounded by people who understand something that can be very difficult to explain to others.
And one of the highlights was meeting a fellow survivor. ❀️

There was something incredibly powerful about standing in a room with people who have their own stories, their own journeys and their own reasons for being there.

I found myself feeling emotional throughout the day.
Not just because of what happened to my dad, but because I suddenly had a much greater appreciation of just how much work goes into designing and producing these products and the number of people behind them.

It made me stop.

It made me reflect.

And it made me realise, once again, just how incredibly lucky I am that my dad survived.

Yesterday wasn't just a factory visit.
It was a reminder of the people behind the things that save lives, the importance of connection, and how sometimes we need to stop and appreciate just how amazing life really is.

I'm incredibly grateful. ❀️

🏭 A Slightly Different Saturday! πŸ‘€

Today I'm swapping mindfulness sessions for something a little different...

I'm heading along to a family day at a factory in Inchinnan β€” and it's not just any factory!
They make the grafts used in the treatment of aortic dissection.

This one is particularly close to home for me because my dad experienced an aortic dissection a couple of years ago, so seeing where something connected to his treatment is made is going to be pretty special.

I'll be honest... I'm probably going to have lots of questions! πŸ˜‚

It's not every Saturday you get the chance to see behind the scenes of something you would normally never give a second thought to.

And it got me thinking...

How often do we use things, visit places or benefit from the work of others without ever stopping to think about how it all happens?
Today I'm going to try to be curious, take it all in and appreciate something I might normally never get the opportunity to see.

And, of course, I'm sure there will be plenty of coffee, family chat and a bit of fun along the way! β˜•πŸ˜‚

Sometimes mindfulness is simply being curious about the world around us.
What have you seen or experienced recently that made you stop and think, "Wow... I never knew that!"?
