If your baby is waking a lot at night, you might have heard: “Maybe they’re hungry — maybe it’s time to start solids.” 🥣👶
It’s a common reason families start solids early.
But here’s the thing: starting solids isn’t a sleep solution.
Research hasn’t shown that introducing solids helps babies sleep through the night, and night waking is completely normal during the first year. There are so many reasons babies wake — development, teething, illness, changes in routine, comfort and simply being a baby!
Starting solids should be based on developmental readiness, not on how well your baby is sleeping.
So if your baby is waking frequently, try not to feel like you need to rush into solids to fix it. If you’re concerned about their sleep, have a chat with your health visitor or GP.
And if you’re getting ready to start solids, make sure you know what readiness actually looks like — because there’s a lot of advice out there, and not all of it is helpful. ❤️
