We're currently in Europe doing some pre-De 4Daagse training (more updates soon!) but here's a quick video Felix shot in beautiful Darwin about our project, and the importance of accessible communities.

Got an email from Felix Ho the other day.

Our Northern Territory Australian of the Year is about to head to the Netherlands with Gareth Trew to take on the Walk of the World - the world's largest walking event.

That's 200 kilometres over four days, all to shine a light on the barriers many Territorians with disabilities still face when it comes to getting out, joining in and being part of the community.

Anyone who knows Felix knows he's always looking for ways to help others, so it's no surprise he's taking on another challenge for a good cause.

Safe travels, Felix and Gareth.

Enjoy the experience, and know you've got plenty of Territorians behind you.

A quick message from Felix during his training session this morning, filmed at the beautiful Stokes Hill Wharf πŸŒ…

Connection, companionship and being part of the community are so important for people with disability.

The NT Companion Card helps make it easier for Territorians with disability to enjoy the activities, events and experiences that make the Territory such a special place to live.

If you know a business, venue or event organiser who isn't yet aware of the Companion Card program, why not start the conversation? Or simply share this page with them so they can learn how they can help make their events and services more accessible and inclusive.

Together, we can help create a Territory where everyone has the opportunity to participate.

A big thanks to Jo Hersey-Member for Katherine for displaying some NT Companion Card brochures in her electorate office πŸ™

If you're a Katherine-based business, venue, or event organiser and you're interested in finding out more about the program, you can pop into Jo's office to pick up a brochure or visit ntcompanioncard.org.au.

We’d love for you to consider becoming an Affiliate or Friend of the NT Companion Card (it’s free)! 😊

Many people assume that having an NDIS plan means all disability-related costs are covered. In reality, the NDIS only funds supports it considers reasonable and necessary.

For many people, this includes funding for a support worker to assist them in accessing the community. However, the NDIS doesn't cover the additional costs associated with that support, such as event tickets or entry fees.

This means that attending a concert, going to the movies, or visiting a local show can cost a person with disability twice as much as other attendees, simply because they require support to participate.

The NT Companion Card helps address this gap. Participating venues, businesses and event organisers provide a complimentary ticket for a companion. This helps ensure Territorians with disability have the same opportunity to enjoy events, activities and experiences across the NT.

If you're a business, venue or event organiser, please consider becoming a Companion Card Affiliate and help more Territorians with disability enjoy everything our community has to offer.

Companions Walk The World is an initiative led by Dr Felix Ho ASM OAM - current for the Northern Territory and Volunteering Australia's inaugural National Volunteer of the Year - and Gareth Trew, Vice-Chair of Integrated Disability Action Inc - IDA, the Northern Territory's peak body for people with disability.

Together, they will take on De 4Daagse - the world's largest walking event - covering 200 kilometres in four days to raise awareness of the NT Companion Card.

The program helps eligible Territorians with disability participate more fully in community life by providing a complimentary ticket for a companion at participating venues and events.

Their goal is to encourage more businesses, venues and event organisers to join the program and help build a more inclusive Northern Territory.
