“Life is short.
Make the most of every moment.
If there’s something you’ve been wanting to do, do it now, before it’s too late.
Hold your loved ones close, you never know when will be the last time”
These phrases are bandied about all the time.
I don’t know about you, but I find them pretty depressing.

Surely our lives aren’t meant to be a packed itinerary.
Seamless walk-to-wall activities to fill the bucket we’re all meant to have.
Or is that the bucket we kick? Not sure.
Lists of must-dos and must-haves and must-sees.
So that we can never feel a single pang of regret on our death-beds about places we haven’t been to, planes we haven’t jumped out of, celebrations we haven’t partied hard enough at, selfies we haven’t taken, bridges we haven’t bungee-jumped off.

Is there nothing more to our lives except racing against time?
And making sure we haven’t missed out on a single thing that others have ticked off their never-ending list.

Surely our lives are meant to be experienced as we move through them, rather than stuffed full of pre-ordered activities?
If we constantly have a list in front of us, do we leave any room for life to unfold at its own pace?
Or are we so concerned with not missing a single thing, we don’t even notice the little twists and turns that take us somewhere totally unexpected?

And what about the big twists and turns.
The ones that shake everything up, so all our plans come tumbling about our ears.
They too are about the unfolding adventure.
They too are precious.
But almost certainly won’t be on The List.

We are not wasting our lives when we have to turn off the beaten track.
Turn off the noise.
Turn in a different direction.
We are exploring what it means to live.
Not a curated life, but an authentic one.

Time and time again I come across the idea that spiritual growth involves “dissolving the ego”.
Something I read by chance today expressed the view that we were “unlikely to get rid of the ego in just one spiritual awakening”, or words to that effect.
Well, all I can say is thank goodness for that.

We need the ego.
It’s the gatekeeper.
The filter between the unconscious and the conscious worlds.
It monitors what bubbles up from the unconscious depths.
And exerts control over the gateway between that reality and the conscious day-world.
Without the ego, we would have no bouncer on the door.
We would be overwhelmed.

Spiritual growth is a process of gradual integration of the darkness of the unconscious into the day-world reality of our conscious lives.
Bit by bit.
Little by little.
And always ever only partial, incomplete.

It’s a life-long gradual drip-feed process.
Kept in check by the ego on duty at the door.
Not a tsunami, taking the conscious world by storm.

Too much emphasis is placed on the idea of a spontaneous Spiritual Awakening.
A dramatic Road to Damascus moment.
Flash, bang, wallop….wow!
How exciting is that?

Far too little on the hard ongoing work over a lifetime.
Where understanding comes through little by little, and hard won.

“Age is just a number” we say.
As we dye our hair, get Botox, cosmetic fillers and face-lifts.
No, it’s not.
And chasing eternal youth through cosmetic procedures, disguises and cover-ups is a futile task.

Getting older changes us.
And it should.

Our pilgrimage through this world is a time to gain understanding from all our experiences.
To encounter ourselves time and time again, and each time find more we didn’t know and hadn’t met before.

How sad if we get to our later years and still try to be who we were many years ago.
That version should be well past its use-by date by that time.
Nor should we feel we need to hide the understanding that comes from having lived through many years.

Learning to accept with love the gifts that our later years bring is how we offer our gratitude to the Great Spirit who gave them to us.

A time to be born
A time to die.
All of it.

Fancy becoming an influencer?
It’s ok, don’t worry.
You don’t need any special equipment.
No fancy dance moves or trendy kit.
No lip fillers or filters.
And you can start today.

Just be kind.
Treat people how you’d like to be treated.
It’s easy-peasy.
I can’t promise you’ll make your fortune.
But you’ll certainly make the world a better place.

It’s a funny thing, getting older.
Learning more seems to be a process of knowing less.
But the nice bit is, it doesn’t seem to matter.

In pain?
Feeling low?
You’d love to have an appointment, but you’re up to your eyes in stuff.
You know, Life Stuff.
Which is probably part of the problem in the first place!

Have you considered Distant Healing?
You sit quietly for ten minutes or so at home, and I send you healing.
Do I sense a sceptical snake-oil eyebrow being raised there?
Yeah right.
Hands-on healing, yes, but several miles distant?
How can that work?

Ok, deal.
You’re happy to accept that this piece you’re reading was written by me on my iPad a short while ago.
Somewhere miles away.
And has just miraculously pinged into your mobile.
Yes?
That’s real, right?
Ah but that’s sort of science-y stuff.
But do you know how it works?
I suspect very likely not, and probably can’t be bothered.
And yet you accept it does.

Distant Healing is no more unlikely.
And if, like me, you can’t be bothered to find out exactly “how”, why not file it all under “magic”?
It’s as good an explanation as any.
And a lot simpler than some!

Why not see for yourself?
I’m here.
I’m working.
Just contact me.
I offer reduced-cost and donation payment if finances are tricky.
