Global Therapies Physiotherapy & Personal Training

Global Therapies Physiotherapy & Personal Training Physiotherapy, Sports & Remedial Massage Therapy; Pregnancy Massage, Personal Training & Pregnancy Fitness Do you have a niggle? We are not like that.

Global Therapies is a Physiotherapy, Sports and Remedial Massage and Personal Training business, with its heart firmly in the Peak District. Our therapists are highly active runners, cyclists and climbers. Past experience of desk based jobs and an active lifestyle enables us to talk with authority on sports based injuries as well as work induced repetitive strain issues. We work with all kinds of

people from elite athletes in the running, cycling, lifting and figure athlete disciplines, to daily joggers, club level runners and desk bound office workers. Are you a bit concerned that if you see a health professional – be it a doctor or a therapist – they will just fob you off with the catch all “well, if it hurts, don’t do it” phrase? See the Therapists page on our website for more about the way we work.

Grateful for clients who choose us again and again 🙏🏻

Pain Science Basics

Pain ≠ Damage: Pain is a protective alarm, not a damage report — you can feel a lot of pain with no injury, and have injury with very little pain.

Sensitisation: Sometimes the alarm system becomes extra sensitive.
Factors like stress, sleep, hormones and past injuries can turn the volume up without anything being “worse” in the tissues.

Flare‑Ups Happen: Flare‑ups are temporary spikes that tend to reflect an overwhelmed nervous system rather than re‑injury. They settle with small adjustments to load, stress, and recovery.

Why Pain Changes Day to Day: Pain changes day to day because your whole life influences it - sleep, stress, hormones, mood, movement, expectations, and even weather can shift your experience even when the state of your tissues hasn’t actually changed.

You Can Influence Pain: The good news is you can influence pain: gradual loading, strength training, movement, breathwork, pacing, and solid recovery help your system feel safe again, building confidence and resilience.

If pain is getting in the way of your training, work, or everyday life, you don’t have to figure it out alone. Understanding pain is the first step. Changing it is the next. If you’re ready to feel more confident, move with less fear, and get a plan that actually makes sense for your body, you can book an appointment (link in bio). Let’s get you moving, stronger, and feeling more in control again.

Reflections

A month ago I stood on the start line of the Lost Dot 101 ultra bike race wondering if I could even get close to what lay ahead.

I knew it was a huge ask, and just reaching the start line for me was the win.

The reality is that I didn't reach the finish line.

I'm 100% happy with that result, because the finish line isn't what this was about.

I rode nearly 500km, climbed over 10,000m, raised almost £2,500 for and achieved far more than I ever thought possible.

Of course, there's disappointment. It would be strange if there wasn't. But what stays with me most isn't what I didn't do - it's what I did.

This event pushed me further than I've ever gone before. It showed me strengths I didn't know I had. It also showed me limits I needed to respect.

One of the hardest lessons in endurance events - and in life - is knowing when to stop.

There comes a point where determination stops being courage and starts becoming stubbornness.

Severe fatigue affects judgement, and sometimes the bravest decision isn't to keep going at all costs. Sometimes it's listening to your body and making the difficult call before real damage is done.

I'm proud that I was able to do that.

I'm incredibly grateful to everyone who donated. Knowing that every pedal stroke was helping raise money for the cats kept me moving through some very tough moments. The money raised will make a real difference.

Thank you also to and to everyone who supported me throughout the long winter training and during the race. When exhaustion takes over and your brain is no longer functioning properly, having people you trust to be there for you and help you make difficult decisions (without making them for you) is invaluable. I couldn't have done any of this without you.

I've also been touched by the messages from people who've said this ride has inspired them to do something difficult and challenging themselves. That's not something I ever expected when I signed up for this event, and it's a compliment I don't take lightly. If my experience shows that ordinary people can attempt extraordinary things - and learn from them whether they finish or not - then I'm grateful for that.

Because success isn't always about crossing a finish line.

Sometimes it's about being willing to start something that scares you.

Sometimes it's about discovering you're capable of more than you imagined.

And sometimes it's about having the wisdom to stop, learn, recover, and come back stronger.

The finish line isn't the only thing that counts. The person you become along the way matters too.

Thank you so much for the donations for - seeing the money roll in while I was out in Spain and Portugal gave me motivation to keep pedalling on the race.

Even though I didn't reach the finish line I smashed my goal and learnt so much about the world of ultra cycling. I was tested and challenged which is why I did this event. I met amazing people and riders and saw incredible scenery and wildlife.

Thank you all for your generosity. The fundraising page will stay live a little longer as I work on catching up with life back in Glossop.
