๐ŸŒด Do you need a holiday to recover from the summer holidays?

The children are heading back to school, and you might finally have a little breathing space.

But after weeks of being needed, planning, feeding, driving, negotiating, managing emotions and holding everything together, your brain doesnโ€™t necessarily get the message that it can switch off.

Iโ€™ve written a new blog about why parents can feel so exhausted at the end of the summer holidays, the invisible mental load we carry, and why making space to decompress matters.

And thereโ€™s a reason Iโ€™m talking about it nowโ€ฆ

๐ŸŒด This Friday, Iโ€™m hosting The Holiday After the Holidays inside my Calmer Parenting Club โ€” a guided virtual escape where, for once, you donโ€™t have to organise anything for anybody else.

No packing. No passports. And nobody asking you for a snack. ๐Ÿ˜‚

You can read more and join the Calmer Parenting Club with a 7-day free trial here: Read more and join the Calmer Parenting Club:

Come for the virtual holiday, have a look around while you're there, and explore the practical resources, Borrow My Calm audios and parent community inside too.

Imagine finishing every session feeling confident.
Imagine parents leaving saying, "That's the first therapist who's really understood my child."
Imagine children feeling comfortable enough to communicate in their own way.

Imagine...
Fewer shutdowns.
Less masking.
Less overwhelm.

More trust.
More connection.
More progress.

That's what happens when we stop asking, "Why isn't this child engaging?"..and start asking, "What does this child need in order to feel safe enough to engage?"

That's the shift at the heart of the CLEAR Framework.

If you work with neurodivergent children or young people, I'd love to invite you to my free webinar where I'll share the principles that are helping therapists create calmer, safer and more effective sessions.

Because better understanding changes everything.

The magic of ๐ŸŒŸMagic Minds Family Hypnotherapy๐ŸŒŸ is reaching far and wide๐Ÿ’›

Over the last couple of months I've supported families not only here in the UK, but also across Europe and the US. And this last week, I had the incredible privilege of becoming an international speaker at HypnoThoughts Live in Las Vegas.

It's amazing to think that what began as a desire to help neurodivergent children and their families feel calmer, more connected and better understood is now reaching people around the world.

Whether it's through hypnotherapy, stories, parent support, or speaking to professionals, my mission remains the same: to help create more moments of safety, connection and shared calm for children who need it most.

Thank you to every family, colleague and supporter who has been part of this journey. This is only the beginning. โœจ๐Ÿ’›

If you've followed me for a while, you'll probably have heard me say this before...

That sentence has transformed the way I support families.

Children don't need to earn our connection by behaving well. Connection is often the very thing that helps a child's nervous system feel safe enough to become calm.

When we begin with safety instead of correction, relationships strengthen. Children feel understood instead of judged. And parents often find that they stop blaming themselves.

This week's blog explores why I believe we need to start looking beneath behaviour instead of simply reacting to what we see.

I hope it encourages you to see your child, and perhaps yourself, with a little more compassion.

Imagine standing beside a lake, watching ripples spread across the surface.

You could spend all day trying to smooth the water with your hands.
But unless you understand what's creating those ripples beneath the surface, they'll simply keep coming back.

That's exactly how I think about children's behaviour.

The meltdowns.
The school refusal.
The anxiety.
The shouting.
The withdrawal.

They're the ripples.

Our job isn't simply to smooth the surface.
Our job is to understand what's happening underneath.

When we look beneath behaviour, we often discover a child who is overwhelmed, frightened, exhausted or desperately trying to feel safe.

Behaviour starts to make much more sense.

That's why I believe understanding the nervous system is one of the most important conversations we can be having about neurodivergent children.

I've shared more of my thoughts in this week's blog.

"What do I do when my child behaves like this?"

It's one of the questions I'm asked most often.
But over the years, I've come to believe it's the wrong question.

Instead, what if we asked...

That single question changes everything.
It shifts us away from punishment and towards curiosity.
Away from judgement and towards understanding.
Away from trying to stop behaviour and towards discovering what lies beneath it.

For many neurodivergent children, behaviour isn't manipulation, defiance or attention-seeking. It's communication.

When we understand the message beneath the behaviour, we're in a much better position to help.

I've written more about this in my latest blog, Looking Beneath Behaviour: Changing How We Understand Neurodivergent Children.

I'd love to hear your thoughts after you've read it.

How often do we focus on changing a child's behaviour, without stopping to ask what's happening beneath it?

As a paediatric clinical hypnotherapist, former primary school teacher and neurodivergent family coach, I've come to believe that one of the biggest shifts we can make is this:

Stop asking:
"How do we stop this behaviour?"

Start asking:

For many neurodivergent children, behaviour isn't the problem. It's the visible expression of anxiety, sensory overwhelm, uncertainty, exhaustion or a nervous system that no longer feels safe.

When we begin to look beneath behaviour, we move away from blame and frustration and towards understanding, connection and meaningful support.

I've written a new blog exploring why I believe we need to change the conversation about neurodivergent children and children's mental health, and why connection creates calm.

If you're a parent, teacher, therapist or anyone supporting neurodivergent children, I hope it offers a different perspective.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Read the blog here: https://www.magicmindshypnotherapy.co.uk/post/beneath-behaviour

I'd love to know what resonates with you most after you've read it.

One of the biggest misconceptions in parenting and education is that behaviour is something to be managed. We often focus on what we can see - the tears, the anger, the refusal, the shouting, the withdrawal - without asking what might be happening underneath.
