Working 9 to 5… CHD style! 🤠

On Friday 25 September - or 9/25 in America - CHD Living homes came together to celebrate Dolly Parton Day, honouring the life, music and wonderful spirit of the late Dolly Parton.

From pink and rhinestones to blonde wigs, cowboy hats, karaoke, dancing and Dolly Bingo, our residents and teams embraced the Dolly spirit. There were also plenty of American-inspired treats, with burgers, hot dogs, chocolate waffles and pancakes on the menu! 🥞

A particularly special moment happened at Whitegates Care Centre, where a resident who is usually non-verbal joined in with the singing - something the team had never seen before.

A huge thank you to Cecile, manager at CHD Living, who recently took fundraising to new heights with a skydive in aid of Adopt a Grandparent.

By jumping out of a plane, Cecile has raised an incredible £878 to support our work tackling loneliness and bringing generations together through meaningful companionship.

It takes a special kind of person to choose a challenge like this, and we are so grateful for her courage, kindness and commitment to making sure older people feel seen, valued and connected.

Every pound raised helps us continue building friendships between volunteers and older adults, creating conversations, laughter and relationships that can make a real difference to someone’s life.

From everyone at Adopt a Grandparent, thank you Cecile. What an amazing achievement, and what a wonderful way to support our mission.

The circus came to Brownscombe Residency last week, and what an afternoon it was.

We were delighted to welcome residents and team members from Surrey Heights, Surrey Hills, St Catherine’s and Crest Lodge for a special performance by Bezerkaz Circus.

Our visiting performer certainly knew how to put on a show, with fire breathing, fire juggling, stilt walking and some spectacular giant bubbles!

There was plenty of audience participation too, as residents and team members got stuck in and had a go at creating their own giant bubbles. Cue lots of laughter, a little friendly competition and some brilliant photographs.

It was wonderful to bring five of our CHD Living homes together for an afternoon of entertainment, friendship and shared fun.

A huge thank you to Bezerkaz Circus for putting on such a fantastic show, and to everyone who joined us at Brownscombe Residency and helped make the afternoon so enjoyable.

We are delighted to share that CHD Living has been named as a finalist in four categories at the Surrey Care Awards 2026.

This recognition means a great deal to us because each category reflects something different about the care, skill and commitment shown across our homes and services.

CHD Living Care at Home has been recognised in Excellence in People and Culture for its work supporting a client receiving Produodopa, a pioneering Parkinson’s treatment delivered through a continuous 24-hour infusion pump.

Abbey Chase Nursing Home is a finalist for Nursing Home of the Year, recognising strong family feedback, its 10 out of 10 carehome.co.uk score, reablement pathway work and compassionate care.

The Abbey Chase team has also been selected for Team of the Year, Small/Medium Organisation, celebrating the warmth, consistency and culture across the whole home.

Kings Lodge Care Centre has been recognised in Excellence in Residential Care Practice, highlighting Deputy Manager Oggie Gelacio’s work around clinical practice, team development and resident voice.

These finalist places reflect the people behind CHD Living: our residents, clients, families and the team members who bring care, professionalism and heart to their work every day.

A huge congratulations to everyone recognised. We are incredibly proud and we look forward to celebrating with the other finalists on the night.

Last weekend, colleagues from Kerala organised a special Onam celebration at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church hall in Haslemere, inviting the wider team to join them in marking one of Kerala’s most important festivals.

Onam is a traditional harvest festival from southern India. It is a joyful celebration of gratitude, prosperity and community, and is linked to the story of King Mahabali, who is believed to return each year to visit his people.

The afternoon brought everyone together through traditional food, music, games and plenty of laughter. It was a lovely opportunity for team members to share their traditions, celebrate their heritage and enjoy time together outside the home.

Moments like this are a reminder of the rich cultures, stories and experiences within our CHD Living family, and how special it is when colleagues invite one another into the traditions that matter to them.

A huge thank you to our Brownscombe Residency team members from Kerala for organising such a joyful celebration and sharing Onam with us.

Tea, cake and the kind of conversation that reminds you why community matters.

Last week’s Tea & Talk Café in Haslemere brought people together for a warm, relaxed morning of company, connection and support. No pressure. No formalities. Just a friendly space to sit, chat and feel part of something.

Our Haslemere Tea & Talk Café (Haslemere Methodist Church, 10:30am - 12) takes place on the third Tuesday of every month, with our Godalming café (Godalming United Church, 11am - 12:30) running on the first Tuesday of every month.

A lovely reminder that sometimes the simplest things, a cuppa, a slice of cake and someone to talk to, can make a real difference.

🎪 The circus is coming to Brownscombe! 🎪

We’re delighted to welcome Bezerkaz Circus to Brownscombe Care Residency on Tuesday 15th September for an afternoon of circus fun and entertainment.

Join us for an afternoon packed with interactive circus activities, fire and glow juggling, a unicycle performance, stilt walkers and giant bubbles! There’ll be plenty to see, get involved with and enjoy, with drinks and delicious canapés available throughout.

Friends, families and members of our local community are all warmly invited to join us - and entry is completely free!

A care home is remembered through its people.

At Abbey Chase Nursing Home, families often talk about the feeling they get from the whole team. The manager who takes the time to listen. The nurse who explains things clearly. What a Sunday at Whitegates Care Centre.

Residents, relatives and team members came together for a brilliant BBQ, live music and mini fete, with plenty of laughter along the way.

A special mention to Val, our very own Queen of Whitegates, and Derek, husband of one of our residents, who was crowned winner of the much-loved Knobbly Knees competition.

Best of all, the afternoon raised more than £300 for Adopt A Grandparent, helping to support a charity that brings friendship, conversation and connection to older people.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us, donated and helped make the day such a success.

A first call to remember.

Surrey Hills Dementia Nursing Centre has officially joined the Adopt A Grandparent programme, and our first call lasted over an hour.

It was warm, natural and full of conversation, exactly what this wonderful initiative is all about.

We’re so pleased to be part of a programme that brings people together, creates connection and helps brighten someone’s day in such a simple but powerful way.

We’re already looking forward to the next call.
