Our residents regularly enjoy a variety of puzzles and games that are fun and engaging, as well as helping with both cognitive and coordination skills. 🧩♟️

At Robertson Nursing Home, our holistic approach to care extends beyond the physical care we provide to our residents to also include support for their mental and emotional wellbeing. We encourage residents to take part in fun puzzles and games that exercise their minds and support coordination skills.

These can vary from traditional puzzles and board games to games designed specifically for mental acuity. We make sure these games are inclusive, so everyone gets to join in, and our staff are always on hand to provide encouragement.

Above all, these games can be social, giving residents a great opportunity to chat with each other or our staff members while they play, as well as fun.

We recently welcomed the wonderful entertainer and friend of Robertson, Kevin Jacot, to the home to delight our residents with his musical talents. 🎻

It is always a pleasure to have Kevin at the home, and our residents love to listen to him play the violin and sing some of their favourite songs. Some of the residents were so taken with the music they couldn’t help but join in and sing along, and the sound of everyone singing and having fun filled the home.

Kevin’s performances are so entertaining and engaging, we always look forward to his visits and can’t wait for the next show! 🎶

Let’s celebrate one of our residents’ favourite pastimes and pop the kettle on for Afternoon Tea Week! 🫖

☕️ We love to host an afternoon tea at our Beritaz Care homes. Whether it’s in celebration of a special occasion, or simply a great excuse for a get-together on a quiet afternoon, an afternoon tea is one of our residents’ favourite ways to socialise. Within our homes, we aim to create a feeling of companionship and community, and through social events like an afternoon tea, we can help our residents to get to know each other, find common interests, and feel more comfortable and content within our homes.

🥳 During this glorious summer weather, we have hosted several outdoor afternoon teas and garden parties, bringing together our residents, their family members, and friends of the homes for some delicious refreshments prepared by our brilliant kitchen teams. It has been the perfect way to celebrate the summer season with our home’s communities.

👩🏻‍🍳 Some of our residents have even lent a hand in baking up some delicious treats for our afternoon teas. Members of the Robertson Nursing Home cooking club have made some wonderful cakes and bakes for their fellow residents to enjoy with their afternoon tea. They enjoy both the process of baking the sweet treats and having a good chat while they taste the end result.

🚌 Our residents also love taking a trip on our minibus to visit a local café to enjoy their afternoon tea. There are some wonderful small businesses and landmarks near our homes, and we always enjoy taking our residents to explore all of the lovely places in the local area.

Whether they are enjoying a full afternoon tea spread, complete with cakes, scones, sandwiches, and freshly brewed tea, or a simple cup of tea with a slice of cake, an afternoon tea is one of our residents’ favourite occasions.

The Robertson Nursing Home cooking club continues to be a favourite with many of our residents. 👩🏻‍🍳

Each month, they get together to revisit a favourite hobby and create some delicious bakes to share with their friends at the home. With some encouragement and a helping hand from our staff, the cooking club have been baking up some delicious cakes recently.

With care and patience for every step of the cooking process, their cakes and bakes always come out perfectly. Even those who aren’t part of the cooking club look forward to their monthly get-together, knowing without fail there will be a tasty treat to try at the end.

It is always wonderful to see our residents coming together to enjoy a shared hobby, one which they have practised throughout their lives. We know being able to continue this pastime, and enjoy it with a friend, means a great deal to them.

Our residents continue to enjoy reading the latest issue of the Daily Sparkle newspaper. 🗞️

We are always happy to receive the new Daily Sparkle, and our residents are always excited to see what is inside. The newspapers are fun, engaging, and a great tool for reminiscing.

We have been using Daily Sparkle resources to support our resident activities, and the residents of Robertson Nursing Home absolutely love reading the Daily Sparkle newspaper, either by themselves or with our staff members. The activities included provide us with great inspiration and are always a big hit with our residents.

At Robertson Nursing Home, we are always looking for engaging activities that are accessible to all residents and support overall wellbeing. Resources like those provided by the Daily Sparkle are incredibly useful in helping our team to offer a varied activities programme that our residents truly enjoy.

As part of our D-Day anniversary activities earlier in the summer, our residents enjoyed some themed entertainment and reminiscence activities with Heather from Inner Sanctuary.

For some of our residents, this was a trip down memory lane, revisiting their childhood experiences of this time and sharing their memories. They enjoyed listening to some classic songs and even got up for a dance, as well as joining in with a sing-along as they waved flags. 🇬🇧

This was a lovely way to help our residents honour such an important historic period, and revisiting these memories was very meaningful for many of them. Thank you to Heather for providing such fantastic entertainment for our residents. Everyone enjoyed the activity and being able to commemorate the D-Day anniversary together.

How have you been spending the sunny days this summer? ☀️ Our residents have been enjoying the sunshine and scenery at some of the best landmarks in the Surrey area.

We recently took our residents on an adventure to explore the lovely Loseley Park, a beautiful estate and gardens not far from the home.

Our residents had a lovely day, walking around the walled garden and pointing out their favourites of the colourful flowers in full summer bloom. 🌷🪻 There was so much to see with all the beautifully cultivated flowers and plants across the different themed garden rooms. As several of our residents are keen gardeners, they were particularly interested in the different plant varieties and how the beds had been arranged. There was lots of inspiration for the future Robertson gardens.

After they had explored the gardens, the residents stopped at the outdoor café area to enjoy a cup of tea and a slice of cake while chatting about how much they had enjoyed their visit to Loseley Park. ☕️🍰

It was the perfect way to spend a summer’s day in Surrey. Where should we visit next?

Today is International Friendship Day 💕 so we are celebrating the beautiful friendships we have seen flourish between our residents.

Friendship is so important, and nowhere more so than within our homes and the community we have built at Beritaz Care. One of the things many of our residents are looking for when they move into our homes is companionship, some having struggled with loneliness or meeting people, so having the chance to form friendships within the home is something that makes a big difference to their lives.

Our regular social events and celebrations give our residents plenty of opportunities to get to know each other and make new friends. Our resident clubs are a particularly great way to meet people with shared interests; our homes host a variety of clubs from poetry clubs to cooking clubs, and even a men’s club at Robertson Nursing Home. These are a great way to bring together people with similar interests to share their favourite hobbies together and discover things they have in common.

Our residents have also formed some surprising friendships within the wider community. Through relationships with local schools and colleges and working with the Adopt-a-Grandparent scheme, we have seen our residents gain a great deal from intergenerational friendships.

We have also been moved to see the friendships that develop between residents and staff. The team members in our homes truly care about every resident and, through getting to know them, often form close bonds which give our residents a great sense of comfort, knowing they are being cared for by someone they trust.

Within our homes, we have been privileged to see so many amazing friendships form. Watching people from different places, generations, cultures, and backgrounds share their experiences and form connections that have had such a positive impact on their lives. Today we are celebrating all friendships, however they look, that bring happiness and connection to our residents and our homes.
