This week, we had the privilege of helping one of our lovely residents celebrate his 101st birthday. 🎂🥳

We wanted to make sure we celebrated this very special occasion in style, with balloons, decorations, and a delicious birthday cake. The Robertson team gathered to sing happy birthday as we presented him with the cake and watched him blow out the candles.

Being a part of these special moments in our residents’ lives really means a lot to all of us, and we are always happy to do everything we can to make sure our residents enjoy these occasions, be they birthdays, anniversaries, or any other days that are particularly important to them.

We hope this gentleman enjoyed his birthday and we were delighted to be able to celebrate it with him.

The Robertson Nursing Home team donned their hard hats to take a tour of the construction site of the new building. 👷

Everyone was very excited to see the beginnings of the new building and get a sense of what it will look like when it’s complete. We have all been avidly watching the progress from afar, but to get up close and see inside what will become our new home was very special indeed.

We are keen to make sure all members of the Robertson community feel involved in the project and know how invested all our staff, residents, and their relatives are in this exciting new era for the home. Our staff have been putting forward their own ideas for the new building through a suggestion box we have set up. It has been really interesting to read their thoughts so far, and we have had some fantastic suggestions that we are looking to incorporate.

At Beritaz Care, we’re proud to be building a more sustainable future across our homes through our eco-conscious initiatives. 🌱🌍♻️

We have made the switch to reusable everyday items and are working to reduce single‑use plastics in any areas we can, while also introducing energy‑saving upgrades and waste reduction initiatives. Making environmentally friendly decisions has also played a big part in our recent construction plans, particularly within the renovations to Ashton Manor and our brand-new Robertson Nursing Home building.

We are aiming to make thoughtful changes across our homes that support our residents, staff, and the environment, without impacting the quality of care our homes are known for. Our teams have embraced these eco‑conscious initiatives, helping to reduce our carbon footprint while continuing to deliver the high‑quality, compassionate care our residents deserve.

Find out more about the small steps we have been taking that make a big difference. Read our latest blog to learn about these green initiatives and how they are making a positive impact: https://beritazcare.co.uk/news/article/building-a-more-sustainable-future-at-beritaz-care

At Beritaz Care, we are passionate about raising awareness of dementia and are always looking for ways we can do our part to provide information and support to those impacted by the disease.

Conversation around the topic of dementia and Alzheimer’s is so important to help educate families in how to best support their loved ones struggling with the condition. Within our homes, we see firsthand the impact dementia has on our residents and their families, and we want to do everything we can to make life easier for them. From adapting our facilities, care, and activities to better accommodate residents with dementia, to hosting expert-led training and Q&A sessions for relatives, we are always looking for ways we can enhance our own care services to better support those impacted by dementia.

Working within the care industry means this is a topic very close to the hearts of everyone at Beritaz Care, and we are keen to do our part to show our support both inside and outside of our homes. We are long-term supporters of the Alzheimer's Society , who offer education and tools to help families learn how to support someone with dementia to live their life to the fullest, as well as funding their own dementia research projects. Recently, staff members from Ashton Manor Care Home completed a 13-mile trek around London in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society. Thanks to the support of our community and the tireless efforts of the team in fundraising, they were able to smash their target and raise over £2,300 for the Alzheimer’s Society.

This week is Dementia Action Week, an annual campaign aimed at raising awareness and understanding of Alzheimer’s and dementia. This year, the Alzheimer’s Society are encouraging everyone to join their Forget Me Not Appeal and honour the stories of those they wear their Forget Me Not badge for. “Behind each Forget Me Not badge, there are stories of lives devastated by dementia and when we all wear the badge together, it becomes a movement of hope, action and unity.”

Within our homes, we regularly see the challenges faced by those affected by dementia, and we are passionate about finding the best ways to support our residents who are impacted by dementia or Alzheimer’s. Join us in showing support for Dementia Action Week 2026 and encouraging conversations around this condition.

This week is Mental Health Awareness Week, a campaign aimed at improving knowledge around mental health and encouraging everyone to take some time to consider their own mental health. Supporting mental health is a big part of later-life care, and we at Beritaz Care understand the part mental health plays in the overall physical wellbeing of our residents.

Discover how we are working to support the mental health and wellbeing of our residents, staff, and every single member of the wider communities at our homes in our latest blog, and why this plays such an important part in the care we provide within our homes. Read the blog here: https://beritazcare.co.uk/news/article/supporting-mental-health-in-later-life-care

The theme of this year’s campaign by the Mental Health Foundation is “Take Action”, encouraging everyone to take action to support good mental health. Even small actions can help us feel hopeful and less powerless. And while our individual actions matter, when we come together, we are even more powerful.

This week is the perfect opportunity to educate yourself on mental health issues, check in with your loved ones, and take some time to consider how you are addressing your own mental health.

Here’s a sneak peek at our mini outdoor transformation to create a cheerful space for our residents to spend time this summer. 🪏🌷

As the building works for the new home are currently taking up some of our garden space, we have been working to create a new garden for our residents to enjoy. We have given this outdoor area a makeover, adding plants and garden furniture, to make a welcoming space for residents to enjoy some fresh air and time in the sun. The finishing touches will be completed soon, and we are looking forward to making good use of the space over the coming months.

With summer just around the corner, we are looking forward to spending more time outdoors, enjoying the sunshine with the residents. ☀️

What’s on the menu at the Robertson monthly cooking club?

Our cooking continues to be a particularly favourite activity with several of our residents, and they have been busy baking some delicious treats during their monthly meets. 👩🏻‍🍳

Our cooking club members love to have a good chat while they measure and mix ingredients. We are so impressed with the fantastic cakes and bakes they create, which look and taste amazing. 🍰

For those residents who have always greatly enjoyed baking and cooking, having the opportunity to continue these hobbies through our club has meant a great deal to them. We are always happy to see our residents enjoying spending time doing their favourite hobbies, and our staff are happy to lend their support.

At Beritaz Care, we have seen firsthand the special moments that happen when generations come together and the wonderful bonds that are formed. Through various activities, our residents have had the opportunity to get to know people of all ages, sharing conversations and discovering the things they have in common. This week is Global Intergenerational Week, a fantastic campaign that shines a light on the importance of connecting people of all ages to encourage shared experiences and intergenerational friendships. 💕

Many of our homes have close relationships with local schools, which means residents enjoy visits from school pupils or trips to nurseries to visit the children there. We have also been able to offer work experience opportunities for secondary school pupils and college students who want to gain experience of life in a care home. The time our residents have spent with these pupils has been a wonderful experience for everyone involved. The joy and enthusiasm the young people display is infectious, and our residents light up around them. It has also been lovely to see the children enjoy learning from our residents, listening to their stories and asking them questions about their lives.

We have been delighted to welcome several young volunteers to our homes. They have been helping residents to get involved with activities, or sometimes simply sitting with them to have a chat. Some residents have even discovered shared passions with volunteers, including one pair who spent time playing the piano together at Robertson Nursing Home. Being able to enjoy a hobby with someone who shares that passion has been truly wonderful for them both.

Residents of Springkell House Care Home have had the chance to take part in the ‘adopt a grandparent’ initiative, bringing together volunteers from all over the world with the elderly community to build new relationships. One of our residents has enjoyed several video calls with a young volunteer, where they have had a lovely time chatting about all sorts of things and sharing stories about their lives. This has been a really valuable experience for the residents, and it is lovely to know our residents can provide companionship for young people who are missing that familial bond from a grandparent.

Throughout all these activities, it has been wonderful to witness the bonds develop between the residents and these young people and how much they all gain from these experiences. The interactions they share are heartwarming to see and demonstrate the importance of intergenerational connections. There are so many things that link these generations, and so much they have learned from each other; the time spent with the young people has meant a great deal to our residents.

Animals can bring so much comfort, companionship, and joy to our lives, and we have seen the positive impact time spent with animals has had on our residents. This National Pet Month, we want to share the important part animals can play within care and the benefits we have seen animal therapy sessions have on wellbeing within our homes.

Discover how our residents benefit from time spent with their four-legged friends, from the relaxing impact of animal therapy to the positive impact of animal companionship. Plus, find out how much our residents enjoy learning about animal care, and how we incorporate pets and animals into reminiscence activities, all in our latest blog.

Our wonderful Robertson band, Catch 22, are back delighting our residents with their musical talents. 🎶🎸
Catch 22 is a band comprised of a Robertson resident and staff member, who have a shared passion for music and regularly get together to play some of their favourite songs.

At Robertson Nursing Home, we love supporting our residents to enjoy their lifelong hobbies, as well as helping them to find some new ones. Discovering that our residents and staff members share a hobby and can enjoy it together is a very special thing. We know how important music is for this resident and how much he enjoys being part of Catch 22, nearly as much as we all enjoy hearing them play. 😊
