It's that time of the year again, Back To School!
Helping your child head back to school can bring up a lot of big feelings for everyone at home. π
New teachers, different classrooms, and early starts can feel like a huge adjustment!
Here are some simple Ways to Help Your Child Adjust:
* Establish a gentle routine: Start bedtimes and morning routines a bit earlier to avoid a frantic rush. A predictable start to the day lowers anxiety for both of you. β°
* Listen without fixing: Ask open questions like "What was the best or most surprising part of your day?" Give them space to have a good vent without jumping straight in to solve every problem. π§
* Keep drop-offs brief: Long goodbyes can make separation anxiety harder. A confident hug, a cheerful "Have a brilliant day!", and a swift exit give your child real confidence. π€
* Create a calm landing zone: After-school meltdowns are very common because children hold their emotions together all day. Offer a drink or a snack and some space before asking about homework. π
Transitions take time, and a few bumpy days are completely normal. π
If your child is struggling with persistent anxiety or finding the return to school difficult, I can help you navigate it together.
