The Power Of Three

Well they say good and bad things happen in threes! So here they are:

The council give only days notice to close certain parts of Main Road, but it’s a lottery every day as to which part of the road is closed 😂

Next we decide to take a holiday whilst all the disruption is happening entrusting that the holiday company will get us to our destination in good time…..well of course we faced lengthy delays due to air traffic closures and too many bags on the plane ✈️

To complete the power of three, the technology we pay huge amounts to BT each and every day for will work just fine, oh wait all phone systems go down the day we arrive at our hotel 👩‍💻

So naturally we consider at how the above relate to the auditory system and how we process information:

Road closures are akin to damaged hair cells in the ear not being able to allow the flow of sound through the organ.

The flight delays are thousands of flight paths across the sky just like hearing in complex noise situations and when hearing loss is present we may struggle to cope with remaining pathways as the neurological signal is delayed.

And finally the phone systems, when they are down, no one can contact us, we can not contact them so our ability to communicate is disrupted.

But as we are blessed with other forms of coping strategies we can report we had a wonderful family holiday, we arrived late but safe, the phone lines are down but we can still communicate via social media and other forms and finally our road network, yes they have been disrupted but already there are stories of how our community rallied together and dealt with the issues.

We saw those patients that could not come to us at the practice in their homes, we heard of friend, family, neighbours walking to run errands for those who were most affected. That is community, that is combating the issues and we will all be better for it in the end.

WE ARE WORLD CUP READY!

Here at The Studio we are super excited to take in all the sights and sounds of the World Cup.

Let's talk about Wax!

Ear wax is a combination of dead skin, oily secretions, debris and sweat.

Did you know?

Genetics determine the type of earwax you have. People of African or European descent typically have "wet" earwax (sticky and honey-brown), while those of East Asian descent more often have "dry" earwax (flaky and grey or pale yellow)

You can check for yourselves which type of ear wax you have, but at The Studio we can show you the earwax via Video Camera and safe removal processes.

Communication Breakdowns!!

Most of us are currently experiencing the inconvenience and disruption caused by the local council, the electricity suppliers and the water board right now!
From flooded roads to road closures our simple journey from Holmes Chapel to the practice in Goostrey took an hour this morning and to top that off.....no water!

That got us thinking......AGAIN

Communication is how we live life without obstruction and obstacles to overcome. Perhaps if the 3 different sectors communicated with each other, different diversions could have been made to alleviate some of the disruption...

This is the same for our ability to communicate as humans. We know that our ears collect the waves of energy, our inner ear converts the sound waves into electrical energy and the brain encodes that signal into sounds and language which allows us to communicate.

Imagine that our ears are the water companies, our inner ears are the electric companies and our brains are the council, there to overview information and correlate all eventualities.

If any one of the 3 parts work inefficiently then free passage, communication is disrupted.

*Road Closure*

When the sign first went up to tell us that Main Road, right outside the practice in Goostrey was going to be closed, we all thought it must be a mistake. Surely the road could not be completely blocked off or the businesses would have been informed....?
Rumours were that there would be traffic lights to filter the through traffic, we witnessed many drivers in their cars hoping they could get through, but NO, the road is closed!
No other notice from the Council, no further information from the Contractors, just the clear sign that the road will be closed.

This got us thinking at The Studio that warning signs should not be ignored, hearing loss is not just about hearing, it is your ability to connect and communicate, to navigate through our lives.
The warning signs are there, speech seems muffled, can't hear in noise, the TV seems unclear or even Tinnitus. They are clear warning signs that your hearing is affected and can lead to further complications.

What does an easter egg and a hearing aid have in common?

If you split an easter egg in two the shell helps amplify sounds just like a hearing aid does.

At The Studio we do not recommend using easter eggs to hear better, but we do recommend that you have regular hearing tests and where needed choose the right hearing aids to improve your quality of life.
