The Common Ailments Service covers 28 conditions and is available at ALL community pharmacies across Swansea Bay.

Pharmacists can offer free over-the-counter treatments for a number of ailments without the need to see a doctor first.

You just have to register with the pharmacy to be able to use the service, which just takes a few minutes.

The 28 ailments covered are: acne, allergic rhinitis, athlete’s foot, back pain, chickenpox, cold sores, colic, conjunctivitis, constipation, dry skin, diarrhoea, dry eyes, haemorrhoids, head lice, indigestion/reflux, ingrowing toenails, intertrigo, mouth ulcers, nappy rash, oral thrush, ringworm, scabies, sore throat/tonsillitis, teething, threadworm, urinary tract infection (UTI), vaginal thrush, and warts and verruca.

Each community pharmacy has a private room where the consultations are held.

Did you know that women across Swansea Bay can access a free three month supply of contraceptive pills directly from any community pharmacy.

This means that if you want to go on the pill quickly, you can go directly to a pharmacy to get them straight away.

The service helps prevent unintended pregnancies whilst a longer term contraception plan is arranged with a GP practice or sexual health services.

All 90 community pharmacies across Swansea and Neath Port Talbot provides the service, which offers the desogestrel pill.

It runs alongside the existing Emergency Hormonal Contraception Service, which offers an emergency contraceptive pill.

Any woman seeking contraception can ask for this service at their local pharmacy, there is no need to wait to be offered it.

Consultations are carried out in a private room where the pharmacist will assess eligibility criteria and BMI.
