For years, I was convinced something serious had to be wrong with me.
I experienced symptoms that felt so real and so frightening. I had blood tests, CT scans, MRI scans, appointments, medications with unpleasant side effects, endless trial and error... and so few answers.
First and foremost, please always get persistent or concerning symptoms checked by a medical professional. Never ignore symptoms or assume they are "just stress." Your health deserves to be taken seriously.
But if you've been thoroughly investigated and keep hearing, "Everything looks normal," yet your body is still screaming for help... I want you to know there may be another piece of the puzzle.
For me, it was my nervous system.
I had spent so long living in survival mode that my body no longer recognised what safety felt like. My nervous system was constantly scanning for danger, and my body expressed that through physical symptoms.
When I finally understood what was happening and learnt how to teach my nervous system that it was safe again, everything began to change.
My symptoms didn't disappear overnight, but they gradually melted away as my body stopped living in fight or flight.
That experience changed my life, and it's one of the reasons I became a clinical hypnotherapist.
Now I have the privilege of helping others understand that they aren't "making it up," they aren't weak, and they certainly aren't broken. Sometimes the body is simply doing exactly what it was designed to do: protect us.
Healing isn't about forcing yourself to relax. It's about gently teaching your mind and body that the danger has passed.
If this resonates with you, I hope these slides help you feel seen, understood and hopeful. Recovery is possible. I know because I've lived it. đ
