With temperatures soaring to a sizzling 32 degrees on Bank Holiday Monday, there was only one thing left to do at the Withens… have a WATER FIGHT! 💦☀️

Residents and staff had an absolute blast cooling down in the sunshine with water guns, water balloons, and plenty of laughter. It quickly turned into the ultimate battle — Residents vs Staff — and let’s just say nobody stayed dry for very long! 😂

The gardens were filled with smiles, squeals, teamwork, and a lot of sneaky surprise attacks. From dodging balloons to chasing each other around with water pistols, it was the perfect way to enjoy the beautiful weather and make some wonderful memories together.

Days like these remind us that care homes are not just about support and care, but also about fun, friendship, and creating moments of pure joy. We think it’s safe to say everyone slept well after all that excitement! 🌈💙

Last week at the Withens we embraced the spirit of Chelsea Flower Week and made the most of the beautiful sunshine in our gardens! 🌸☀️

Our residents had a wonderful time getting “green fingered” and enjoying the fresh air together. From planting colourful flowers to creating beautiful hanging baskets and floral displays, there were plenty of smiles, laughter, and creativity all around. 🌼🌿

Gardening can bring so many benefits, from boosting wellbeing and encouraging gentle activity, to simply enjoying nature and reminiscing about favourite flowers and gardens from years gone by. It was lovely to see everyone so engaged and proud of the beautiful baskets they created.

And not to forget all the delicious donuts as it was also donuts week 😋

A big thank you to all the staff who helped make the week so special — our gardens are now looking brighter than ever! 🌺

🎉 Double celebrations were in order at The Withens for our wonderful Ola! 🎉

Not only was it Ola’s birthday, but he was also proudly awarded our Employee of the Month! 👏🏾🏆

Ola is always smiling, hardworking, and willing to go the extra mile to support both residents and colleagues. His dedication, kindness, and positive attitude never go unnoticed, and we are so lucky to have him as part of our team.

The team made sure the day was filled with laughter, birthday wishes, and plenty of celebrations… although we may have slightly exaggerated the candles on the cake 👀🎂

Psst… he wasn’t really 100 years old! 😂

Sometimes the newest residents at The Withens aren’t always who you expect… 🐦💛

We discovered a little nest tucked away safely inside one of our outdoor cones, with some very busy little birds making themselves right at home! It brought such a lovely smile to everyone’s faces watching nature quietly carrying on around us.

The residents have loved checking in on our tiny feathered visitors each day and wondering how on earth the babies will eventually make their grand escape! 🪺✨

Moments like this remind us that home is about warmth, comfort, safety and new beginnings — for everyone, big or small. We can’t wait to see these little ones grow and eventually spread their wings.

Nature really does have a beautiful way of bringing joy to everyday life at the Withens 💙

Yesterday we had the absolute pleasure of attending the fantastic May Fair organised by Sedley School and what an incredible way to spend a Saturday! ☀️🎉

From the moment we arrived, you could see just how much hard work, dedication and community spirit had gone into organising such a brilliant event for local families and residents. The atmosphere was amazing, full of laughter, music, smiling faces and so many fun activities for everyone to enjoy.

We were delighted to have our very own stall at the fair where we handed out our RCH cupcakes 🧁, bags of sweets 🍬, balloons 🎈, pens and slap wristbands — which were a huge hit with the children! It was wonderful meeting so many lovely people from the local community and having the chance to chat with families throughout the day.

A huge thank you as well to everyone who took the time to nominate people for our future Southfleet Superheroes project ⭐ We received some fantastic nominations and will definitely be following these up very soon!

The weather was absolutely perfect, making it even more enjoyable, and the BBQ, bar and ice cream van were exactly what everyone needed to keep the fun going throughout the day! 🍔🍦☀️

And of course… we can’t forget to mention the AMAZING raffle prizes! 🎟️ There were some incredible prizes up for grabs and the excitement around the raffle could be felt all day long.

A massive well done to everyone involved at Sedley School for putting together such a successful and memorable event for the community. We already can’t wait for the next one! 💙

Sunshine, smiles, and sweet treats—yesterday was a perfect day in our stunning garden! Residents soaked up the sun with refreshing drinks and scrumptious ice lollies in hand. This serene oasis proved once again to be the ultimate spot for unwinding and catching up. Pure bliss! 🌞🌿🍦

🚒 Blue Light Breakfast Drop-Off – Fire Service Appreciation 🚒

Yesterday marked our monthly Blue Light Breakfast drop-off, and this time we had the pleasure of visiting our fantastic local fire station to show our appreciation for their continued dedication and hard work.

We arrived with a delicious breakfast hamper packed full of treats to keep the team fuelled during their busy shifts. The hamper included freshly made sausage, egg and bacon baps, crispy hash browns, cereal bars, cakes, pastries, fresh fruit, juices and a selection of condiments. To top it off, we also included insulated bottles and cups—perfect for keeping their coffee warm while they’re on the go responding to emergencies. ☕

It’s always a privilege to give back, even in a small way, to those who do so much for our community every single day. The firefighters do an incredible job, often in challenging and unpredictable situations, and we hope our breakfast brought a smile to their morning.
A huge thank you to our local fire service for everything you do—you truly are everyday heroes! 👏

🎉 A Very Happy Birthday to Our Wonderful Head Chef, Gareth! 🎂

This week at The Withens, we had the pleasure of celebrating a very special birthday—our fantastic Head Chef, Gareth!
Gareth is at the heart of our home, creating delicious, nutritious meals that our residents look forward to each day. His dedication, creativity, and care truly make a difference, and it was only right that we took a moment to celebrate him.

Residents and staff came together to wish Gareth a very happy birthday, with plenty of smiles, laughter, and of course… cake! 🎂 The room was filled with singing as everyone joined in to make the occasion extra special, showing just how much Gareth is appreciated by all.

It was a lovely moment of togetherness, and Gareth was truly touched by the kind wishes from both residents and colleagues.

Yesterday, our lovely residents came together to celebrate Saint George's Day, and what a wonderful day it was! Our lounge was transformed into a vibrant festivity with beautiful decorations that set the perfect atmosphere for the celebrations. The morning was filled with creativity and laughter as we got busy with arts and crafts, creating colourful shields and flags that added a personal touch to the occasion. In the afternoon, we ventured out to the garden, where the sun was shining brightly. It was the perfect setting to enjoy the warm weather, surrounded by blooming flowers and the soothing sounds of nature🍃. We indulged in a little tipple, raising our glasses to good company and the joyous spirit of the day. It was truly a day to remember, filled with fun, friendship, and festive cheer.✨
