Living with joint pain can make everyday activities feel harder than they should. Whether it's your knee, shoulder, hip, or wrist, ongoing inflammation can affect your mobility, comfort, and quality of life.

Steroid joint injections are a targeted treatment designed to reduce inflammation directly within the affected joint, helping to ease pain and improve movement. They can be particularly beneficial when other treatments, such as pain relief medication or physiotherapy, haven't provided enough relief.

At Chelmsford Private GPs, Dr Fiona Graham offers steroid joint injections following a thorough assessment, helping patients get back to the activities they enjoy with greater comfort and confidence.

Welcome to our monthly series, Ask the GP, where we get to know the doctors behind Chelmsford Private GPs a little better.

This month, we asked Dr Fiona Graham:

“What can you do in a 30-minute appointment that you can’t in 10?”

“Your 30-minute new patient appointment is designed to give us the time to understand you and your health more fully. Unlike a standard 10-minute consultation, this extended appointment allows us to explore your medical history, current concerns, medications, family history, lifestyle and preventative health needs in greater depth. We can also address more than one concern, review previous diagnoses or investigations, and discuss your health goals to create a personalised plan for your ongoing care.

Having this dedicated time together allows for a relaxed, meaningful conversation without feeling rushed. It gives us the opportunity to build a genuine understanding of your health, answer your questions, and establish the foundations of a trusted, long-term relationship. We believe this investment in time is one of the greatest advantages of private general practice, allowing us to deliver care that is comprehensive, proactive and tailored to your individual needs.”

At Chelmsford Private GPs, we're proud to have doctors like Dr Graham, Dr Abeyratna and Dr Onen who take the time to understand you and your health more fully. Want to experience GP care that doesn't feel rushed? Get in touch to book your appointment today.

Vertigo can come on suddenly — a spinning sensation when you turn in bed, look up, or stand too quickly.

One of the most common causes is BPPV (Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo), where tiny crystals in the inner ear move out of place and affect balance.

The good news is that it’s often very treatable.

At Chelmsford Private GPs, we offer assessment and treatment for BPPV, including the Epley manoeuvre — a simple, guided repositioning technique that can significantly reduce or resolve symptoms.

If you’re struggling with dizziness or vertigo, you don’t have to just put up with it.

“We look at the full picture” 🧩

At Chelmsford Private GPs, we know health isn’t just one symptom, one test, or one result.

It’s how everything fits together — your symptoms, your lifestyle, your history, your mental wellbeing, and the bigger picture of what’s going on for you.

That's why it is so important that we take the time to understand the full story, not just the immediate concern. Because better answers come from seeing the whole picture.

Not every medical is the same — and for many people, it’s not just a box-ticking exercise.

In this video, Fiona talks through the different types of specialist medicals we offer, including driver medicals (DVLA D4 and HGV), police medicals such as P58 assessments, and bespoke medicals for TV and film work.

Each type of medical comes with its own requirements and purpose — from ensuring fitness to drive safely, to supporting career moves, to meeting production deadlines in fast-paced industries. Our role is to make the process as clear, efficient, and supportive as possible, with additional investigations like blood tests, ECGs and X-rays available when needed.

If you’re unsure what type of medical you need, or what to expect, we’re here to guide you through it.

Summer is often when we notice changes in our skin — new moles appearing, or existing ones looking a little different.

Most skin changes are harmless, but it’s important to know what to look out for.

At Chelmsford Private GPs, we encourage patients to check moles using the ABCDE guide:

A – Asymmetry
B – Border irregularity
C – Colour variation
D – Diameter (>6mm)
E – Evolving (any change over time)

If you notice anything new, changing, or unusual, it’s always worth getting it checked. A quick assessment can provide reassurance or ensure you get the right next steps early.

Don’t just take our word for it… 💬

We’re proud to provide personalised, compassionate care for every patient and family we support — and feedback like this means so much to our team.

“I have had the pleasure of being truly looked after by Dr Onen. She really made me feel comfortable and reassured me. Gave me her full attention.

Got me sorted with blood test done on the Monday and by Wednesday evening we had the results and now I'm feeling much better. Highly recommend.”

Thank you to our patients for trusting us with your care.

Welcome to our monthly series, Ask the GP, where we get to know the doctors behind Chelmsford Private GPs a little better.

This month, we asked Dr Yenushka Abeyratna:

“What’s the most rewarding part of being a GP?”

“The most rewarding part about being a GP is having the privilege of building trusting relationships with patients over time and being there for them through both the joyful and challenging moments in their lives. Knowing that careful listening, a kind conversation or thoughtful advice can make a real difference to someone's physical and mental wellbeing is incredibly meaningful. It is a role that allows me to care for the whole person, not just their illness and that is what makes being a GP so fulfilling.”

At Chelmsford Private GPs, we're proud to have doctors like Dr Abeyratna, who bring genuine care and compassion to every consultation. Want to experience GP care that puts the whole person first? Get in touch to book your appointment today.

"Access matters when you’re unwell” 🕒

When you’re feeling unwell, waiting days for an appointment or struggling to get seen can add unnecessary stress at an already difficult time.

That’s why we prioritise:

🔹 Same day appointment availability where possible
🔹 Early morning, evening, and Saturday appointments when required
🔹 Convenient on-site parking
🔹 Longer appointment times, so nothing feels rushed
🔹 Continuity of care with a familiar GP, so you already feel understood and don't have to repeat yourself a thousand times over

Because when you need care, access shouldn’t be a barrier—it should be the first step to feeling better.
