I would just like to highlight how important it is to get booked into a foot health appointment if you suffer with any high risk conditions..
Many people think Foot health practitioners, " just trim nails"..
Yes we do trim nails but we do much more than that..
You may not realise how much we are assessing whilst chatting about your day, your holiday, your children or pets but we are checking, your skin colour, temperature, changes, although this would of been mentioned at the start usually and much more..
During a recent visit from one of my regular patients appointment he told me he had injured his shins on his cruise that he had just returned from.
I examined the legs and was not happy with how the wound looked..
My patient said, " No it's fine, it did heal up like the right leg but I have caught it again on something but it's just taking its time"..
He didn't want any fuss.
This gentleman has had neuropathy and peripheral artery disease for many years so for me it was a red flag.
I persuaded him to allow me to contact his Dr and made an urgent referral for this to be investigated and monitored further..
He was seen the next day, swab taken and have just had an update from the results that he has an infection!..
The nurse was full of praise for my prompt action and said he would of ended up in A & E with this wound and the result could of been much worse!..
He is now on antibiotics and extremely grateful for getting him referred and acting on my intuition...
This post and pictures are with the patients permission..
I love my job...xx
